Watching a few of the online videos (VideoJug / YouTube) can be helpful, but there's no subsitution for practice, practice, practice! With regards to foundation, some counters will let you take away trial samples. Honestly though, department store assistants don't care if you're a guy buying make-up. Just relax and go shop. The world won't end :) Moisturizer is your friend! :-)
