Girls, what do ya say we start out with some fashion tips that might even be mixed with beauty as well!
One comment I hear on a regular basis that I want to dismiss right off the bat, “You’ve got to dress appropriate for your age!” Well girlfriends, if I did just that, I would be dressing like “Granny” from “The Beverly Hillbillies!” I’m 65 years old and there’s no way I’m dressing up to my age! I select clothing which makes me look younger than my actual age and I would suggest you do the same. Now, I’m not suggesting you should dress like a teenager, however, take it down to what you look great in and what you feel comfortable with.
A perfect example where I dress younger than my age is when I’m wearing one of my short wool skater skirts in the cooler months. I pair them with some opaque black tights and some black knee-high boots. I slap on a wide elastic black belt with a faux leather front, with maybe some faux diamond embellishments, and then put on a sexy thin snug fitting solid black turtle neck top. I make sure all of my silver fashion jewelry matches from the neck down to my wrists and fingers. I’m all set! Do I look 65 years old in that cute outfit – heck no! Maybe 40 or 45 at the oldest, if my makeup and hair is as right as the outfit!
A combination beauty and fashion tip to pass on is to never match your eye shadow with the color of the top or dress you’re wearing. It tends to make you look twenty years older than your actual age, trust me, it’s just not a good look. No matter what color your dress or tops are, stick with the natural brown or gray palettes of colors with your eye shadow.
Here’s one of my favorite fashion tips! Don’t wear hose or tights darker than the heels or boots you are wearing! The only time this is really appropriate is when you are wearing white heels. And if you’re wearing white heels, go with the colors called “Barely There” or “Little Color” with Hanes Silk Reflections panty hose. Purchase one size larger than you think you need.
Girls, if you’re wearing opened toe sandals, don’t wear hose at all! Paint your toe nails and use L’Oreal Tanning Lotion on your legs if you need to develop a quick tan. It will take you a little while to learn how to apply the lotion to get a nice even tan on your legs from your feet to the highest parts of your thighs, but you’ll get the hang of it rather quickly. Don’t forget to wash your hands right after you apply the lotion or the palms or your hands will turn brown! If your toes aren’t pretty, just wear some closed toe heels and forget the nail polish.
Another fashion suggestion regardless of your age; don’t shy away from shopping in the Junior’s Department of stores either on line or in the brick and mortar stores. It’s important to note the selection of clothing in the Junior’s Department is not just for teenage girls! Half of my wardrobe has come from there (I’m 65). Their selection of clothing is extremely cute and the sizes fit just right! The only difference between the sizes in the Ladies’ or Women’s departments and the Junior’s Department is they use odd sizing numbers rather than even. I’m usually a size 12 in the Women’s and a size 11 fits me perfect in Junior’s! The selection in that department is incredible, and again, not just for teenagers for sure!
Now girls, don’t be afraid to experiment with colors you might not have tried before. I never thought I would look good in Royal Blue. The first time I did a photo shoot wearing a royal blue Calvin Klein dress with black trim and paired the dress with shear jet black hose and a pair of sexy black ankle strapped closed toe pumps, I looked like a damn movie star! The same thing happened when I did my first photo shoot in a dark pink floral Calvin Klein dress! I didn’t think dark pink would go well with my skin tone and boy was I wrong on that one! Now I will tell you, I don’t look good at all in the color yellow. Bottom line; don’t be afraid to try colors you don’t think will look great on you. Take pictures in different settings so you can see for yourself what looks good.
Now as far as both fashion and beauty go, the fit of anything you’re wearing is pretty darn critical. If the clothing comes close to fitting but you still look a little lumpy in it, make sure to wear some firm fitting shape wear. My best tip for shape wear is always purchase one size smaller than the packaging recommends. The tighter the better as far as I’m concerned. Just don’t get it where it’s cutting off your circulation! Getting the right shapewear to make everything you wear fit and look that much better has a definite learning curve associated with it!
I would be remiss if I overlooked the subjects of diet and exercise when it comes to beauty. There’s no way Miss Scarlett here is going to suggest you eat kale and lentil soup for three meals a day! What you do need to do is cut out as much sugar as possible. You absorb so many empty calories by drinking soft drinks and eating candy and snack cakes. During my current diet, those were the first three items on my list I had to totally give up, and it wasn’t easy at all! Even though I’m 65 years old, I still eat as much candy as I did when I was 10 years old. I cut all of the candy, soft drinks, and snack cakes completely out of my diet.
Plain oatmeal made with boiling water (not the sugary instant oatmeal) with skim or 2% milk and a little local honey with a cup of fresh fruit and a bottled water will start your day off perfectly. You’ll be shocked at what eating plain oatmeal will do for the overall health of your digestive tract within the first two days of eating the oatmeal. Then for lunch and dinner try sticking with fish or lean chicken and pair that protein up with a salad made with some fresh cut up vegetables with some robust zesty Italian dressing. Try getting in the habit of drinking tea or water on ice both with squeezed lime or lemon in it to add flavor. Lay off the beer! Maybe a glass of red, peach, or white wine with your final meal of the day would be OK! Just try and stay away from carbonated drinks period.
I started exercising with aerobic exercises to get my heart rate up and burn the fat off in the right places – with me it’s my midsection, face, and neck. Currently, we don’t have access to gyms so all you have to do is to walk fast or jog around the neighborhood or on a nice trail near your home. Or you can hop on a bike and just cruise around your safe neighborhood streets or go to a nearby safe bike path and ride or walk fast on the path for 40 minutes three or four times per week. Do some simple floor exercises and some light weight training. Google both to get some great ideas how to target the areas you want to improve!
Well you pretty CDH girls, I could go on with more pages of these hot tips on fashion and beauty. For now, I hope you found something that will be of help to you in either fashion or beauty. I’ll leave a few questions below for you to ponder, and then you can offer up a response to either my article or one or more of the questions I’ve posed to you below.
- Do you believe you should always dress age appropriate regardless of what your age is?
- What are some of the more difficult items you regularly eat or drink, which you are hooked on and you’ll need to cut completely out of your diet to get that body of yours in tip top cross dressing shape?
- What are some of the colors which look fabulous on you as a pretty girl, and what are some that simply don’t?
I love you Crossdresser Heaven girls and thanks again for reading my article!
Sincerely, Scarlett XOXOXO

Hi Scarlett, Thank you for all of your tips! I can’t disagree with anything you said, however, and I know pantyhose or stockings with open toe shoes is a “no no", but pantyhose is a must have with me, so I do that old lady thing in that one instance. I definitely do not dress my age, I dress with what makes me feel good. That said, I do like really high heels and love walking in them. Makes my legs look really long so in that case…maybe a little too young. But hey, I missed out on these things… Read more »
Hi there Lisa and so glad you agreed with everything I had to say in this article. There was much more but Brina and I had to do some cutting to try and come close to meeting the maximum word requirements for these articles. Sometimes I get to rambling and just can’t shut up! I always want to try and get it all in but never can quite pull if off with the word requirement. Most girls do look super in black! Even me! But when some girls ganged up on me on another site and wanted to see my… Read more »
Hi Scarlett Thanks for the article. Anyone who knows you and has seen your photos knows how fantastic your fashion sense is, and your hints and tips are the kind of little things that are so important but sometimes overlooked, such as the colour shade of hose, and not wearing dark/opaque with open toed sandals, get the legs as good as they can be and colour up those nails❤️ And don’t be afraid to dress younger than your age. Why not, just don’t go OTT, no crop tops in your forties, just, no!!! Again your photos really show how to… Read more »
Bianca, such a super reply to my article and it sounds like you read and loved every single paragraph! The artlcle was about 300 words longer, but my senior editor, Brina, and I had to cut it up a bit to try and meet the word requirement of the articles. However, most everything on wanted to convey to the girls was in there! Bianca, you added in there something very important about the diet and excercise! And the three aspects from the neck up which are so important resulting from diet and especially exercise are one’s complection, one’s self esteem,… Read more »
As always girlfriend, you are spot on. I already use so many tips you have given me. Do not believe I would feel as comfortable in my skin as I do now without your help and that goes for all the girls on CDH. Love ya all. Thank you BFF for this article. I love the tip about the eyeshadow. As far as my color that I love to wear the most. I believe royal blue is mine. But I do not think I look very good in green or yellows. Maybe some yellow in a floral summer dress, but… Read more »
Hey Beautiful! Oh yeah, that eye shadow tip was probably the most important tip I put in this long winded article. The gotta stick with either the natural brown of gray eyes hadow pallettes. In this particular photo I’m wearing grays. And girls have to watch the instructional videos on how to apply the darn stuff. You just can’t take one color and slap in on there and go. I use at least four different colors in the palette when I’m blending the eye shadow from my eye lids up to my brow bone. You have to Google “Application of… Read more »
Thank you for letting other girls on here know not to wear pantyhose with open toed sandals. That drives me crazy! Thank you scarlett forbthe article…i found it very helpful
Drives me nuts too Larissa! I’m so glad you found my article helpful! Most everyone of the nine articles I’ve written are informational or instructional articles designed to help the girls on here become the best cross dressers than can possibly be!
XOXOXO Scarlett
Great tips, Scarlett. How do you manage to keep your little secret from others when you must shave your legs to go without hose?
Oh Cassie, nothing I do is a secret. I put it all out there for you girls! On the shaving of legs, yes, I do it every single morning when I’m in the shower! I can get both legs done in about 3 to 4 minutes now and during the Spring and Summer months, I’m always applying that L’oreal Deep Tanning cream almost every morning after I dry my hair. As I noted in the article, it takes a bit to learn how to put in on so it tries to an even tan. You have to be careful with… Read more »
But how do you explain your shaved legs to those who don’t know that you crossdress?
Great question and actually, on one has ever asked me about my shaved legs and I shave them every single moring in the shower. Takes me about 4 minutes to cover both of them from ankles up to crotch! And I’m always showing them off! I don’t wear those long goofy shorts that most men wear that makes their legs look as skinny as table legs and I mean the real skinnny table legs. Oh no, that’s not how I roll in handsome husband mode with my pretty legs. I wear Gap Flex shorts from Gap.com and have at least… Read more »
oh Mis Scarlett, i would never thought 65.. maybe 35.. possible 40 at most. You just look fabulous gurl. And like you, Jennifer has the same weight issues in mid section up to face area. Dieting is a struggle. Coke is my down fall. Without it I don’t eat any thing but fruit and vegetables 😉
Thank you so much for your fashion and beauty tips.
Jennifer
What a sweet note Jennifer! Yep, 65, and it ain’t gettin’ any easier pulling off this look of mine! None of the photos have been doctored at all either. That’s the real Scarlett you see in this photo from my very last photo shoot about a month ago!
Wait till ya see what’s coming up next with my new Spring collection! I think you love the outfits throw together next Weds., Thurs., or Friday of next week!
XOXOXO Scarlett
Scarlett, One look at your photos and it is clear you are attractive in anything you wear, and you are a very beautiful woman. That being said, think I mentioned it before, but your willingness to share your beauty knowledge and secrets speaks highly of your character. In my case, I have always appreciated your private constructive criticism. Although some of my older habits are hard to break, and some I really don’t want to change, I DO always appreciate your well-worded constructive criticism. Your enthusiasm and encouragement directed at other girls is so sweet and caring. Back in my… Read more »
Peggy Sue, I honestly think God has me on here to help as many girls on this site as possible!
Thanks for such a sweet note, Peggy Sue. I’m trying my very best to support, encourage, and make girls feel so comfortable while exploring the feminine side of themselves and enjoying the thrill of cross dressing without having any feelings of shame or guilt!
Love ya girl friend! XOXOXO Scarlett
Thanks for the tips, Scarlett! You are certainly someone who we look up to for beauty! I couldn’t agree with you more on the whole age-appropriate thing. I mean, I guess if trying to pass and not draw attention to yourself is your goal, then whatever, but I dress the way I do because I want the attention! I shop in the juniors section alot too. I think because teenage girls usually have narrower hips, could be why they fit a man’s frame better. But most of my cute stuff has come from the juniors section. As far as colors… Read more »
Thanks for reading my article, Lexi! I think this one, like the others, will get a lot of attention! Oh I can tell you don’t need to be on any intensive exercise routine for a long long time! Glad to hear someone else gets a lot of their clothing out of the Junior’s section. They really have some cute stuff in that department. Its a fun department to shop in! Yes, we all look great in black! Red is not my color. I’m finding that out after buying red cardigan sweaters and red dresses. Royal blue looks like crap on… Read more »
Scarlett – many thanks for your wonderful insights! You hit on some great points Skin, diet, exercise are so crucial. Clothes and makeup can only go so far. Your dedication to heath is inspiring and evident in your pics! Keep being fabulous lady!!
Best & Hugs,
Natalie
I love sweet notes like this one! At age 65, it ain’t easy pulling this Scarlett look off! I only started full up cross dressing about 5 years ago. I wish, like most cross dressers, I could have started the full up Scarlett mode about 30 years ago! Maybe I could have been the first cross dressing model for some ladie’ clothing catalog! Most all of us on this site wish we could have done what we are doing now a long time ago! It’s still very taboo where I live in a little town in Milton, Florida. I’ve live… Read more »
Hi Scarlett Thanks for the tips. I will need to try the lotion for my legs. My legs are always splotchy so it will be fun to see how it covers. I have yet to dress my age but at 55 I wouldnt know how to dress 55. LOL. I will keep reading up to learn about dressing appropriately. Now I have to delete my pic where I’m wearing hose with open toe sandals…… I did read about that. Apparently, tights or opaque leggings with open toes is OK. Ive never done it myself. Thanks for the wonderful article hun.… Read more »
You’re welcome Bree and thanks for taking the time to read the rather lengthy article! XOXOX Scarlett
