I love sci fi, Star Trek in most forms is awesome. One suggestion I have is the battle star galactica reboot from the early 2000’s great series. And Katie sackoff is amazing in everything she does.
I love Sci fi movies. Star trek, star wars, terminator just to name a few. The trouble is that no good Sci fi is made anymore and l wish there was but in reality most good movies are being re made and the remakes are terrible
My first exposure to sci-fi was as a kid watching TV after school not even knowing what sci-fi is. Dr Who, Lost In Space, It's About Time, etc. Our daughter is named after one of Dr Who's companions, so take from that what you will.
I have too many movies to pick one favorite, so I will add Ice Pirates.
This is the kind of topic that needs to have an edited list in the top post. 😉
I love sci-fi an all things geekish. My most re-watched sci-fi movie is also a comedy and I will never be able to say I don't want to watch it. Galaxy Quest
As for TV, I never thought anything would top my love of the X-Files, until Orphan Black came out. My favorite show of all time.
Hi Some great movies and series talked about here. i have loved most of them. How about though Barbarella - for the costumes?
Not really a big Sci Fi watcher but been a big fan of Star Wars (prefer the original and classic trilogy) from quite a young age and also like the Back to the Future trilogy plus does Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure count as Sci Fi or it is more of a comedy?
While i have watched a lot of sci fi, and read a modest number of books, I am always partial to the originals. There is only one Star Wars, and a bunch of add ons. Same with Star Trek...as campy as the original series was, it was the original and everything else is just an also ran. As a kid I like Lost in Space even as low budget as it was. The modern remake just is not the same. Let's not forget such classic series as Twilight Zone which was a nice mix of sci fi and other mediums.
While I came to Dr Who late, (10ish years ago) I do enjoy it, and love to go back and watch some of the older episodes.
I can't get on with Doctor Who anymore, there is either too much running and screaming or the plot is indecipherable. My last serious foray into DW was the David Tenant/Billy Piper era—that was good TV. I remember quite clearly William Hartnell playing DW with a little humour but much gravitas; these days, every Doctor just seems smug and oh-so-clever and always plays it far too light-heartedly—I prefer my sci-fi dark, dangerous and just a little horrifying.
I rather liked Keanu Reeves' version of The Day the Earth Stood Still.
Oh, and a quick mention for Alita--Battle Angel; it seemed like an excuse to make any old sci-fi movie, but turned out to be quite a good film. It was left open for a sequel if I recall, but alas, it never came.
One of my favourite films of all time is Paul. It just makes me laugh. It might be set in America, but it couldn't be any more British.
My other favourite film is Good Morning Vietnam. It's about an Alien, Mork, who gets enrolled in the army as a radio presenter 🙂
Cerys
Cerys, I have seen both movies, as comedies making fun of serious subjects, one being the alien agenda and the other being one of the most monumental screwups by the American government ever, sacrifying 60 thousand American men and women and billions of taxpayers dollars on a strip of jungle on the other side of the world, all to make the military warmongers rich. I lost two uncles in it. Those who can’t remember the past are doomed to repeat it.
Kerri
I enjoy the Star Trek movies with the original cast, as well as TNG. Can't really get into DS9 or the other series, though. I also consider myself a Whovian, although I was introduced to the series during the Tom Baker era. I'm also a fan of "H2G2" (aka "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy), so I always know where my towel is.
I also like some sci-fi anime, such as "Space Battleship Yamato"/"Star Blazers". I just wish they hadn't changed the enemy in the live action version.
Impressive 💕
Sci-fi is my number 1 genre.
My all-time favorite is The Fifth Element (I love LeeLoo).
Most mind-blowing plot is definitely Predestination (bonus point @ellyd22 ?), but once you've seen it, the surprise is gone.
Star Trek over Star Wars, but I like both.
I just want to mention Serenity again because it's so cool, nd the Firefly series it came from. Such a pity they never did a second series. Also the added bonus of Morena Baccarin looking totally desirable as Inara Serra 😍
Speaking of television series, I loved The Exapnse although I thought it was a pity that they rushed the plot a in the final series (or do I have to say 'season'?). Such a pity they couldn't keep going. The books on which the programme is based are excellent.
I am soooo glad to have other sci-fi geeks amongst this clan! For a while I thought I may be the only one (where else has that thought crept in our minds?)
I am from a small town and before 4th grade I had read every...I mean EVERY... sci-fi book and article in the local library and couldn't wait to get my hands on something new and unique.
I love all the movies mentioned and have seen many a dozen (or more) times. My initiation began with the original Star Trek series, then the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, followed by all the Star Wars and Star Trek movies and many others before after and in-between with my latest favorites being Intersteller, and Dune (part 3 to be released around December 2025).
I want to add a slight leg to this conversation by also adding some of my favorite sci-fi series that have not been mentioned yet such as:
The Expanse - my #1 favorite
Babylon 5
Battlestar Gallactica (new version) and a little known but awesome series call Caprica that explains the origin of Cylons...... I was very disappointed when this series was cancelled because it was very well written.
Just good clean fun...Right!!
Keep up the good work everyone!
