Hi girls
I just had to share this nice article on the history of LGBTQ+
The video is 4 minutes of your time well spent, IMHO!

Nice catch, Laura, thanks
In case the bbc link doesn't get through to the states -you might need to spoof your location - people might be interested in this world map of gender diverse cultures:

For anyone who can't get to the BBC article, this snippet is really interesting:
It basically shows the relatively short period of time in which gay relationships were illegal in Britain - following on the Social Purity movement of Jane Ellice Hopkins https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellice_Hopkins , which, unfortunately, picked up the Eugenics movement as well - social purity via "cleansing", which was picked up by Hitler, among so many others.
So the implications for anyone who might be "queer" were severe - and this obviously got drummed into society pretty hard.
"
Grossly indecent women
In 1885, "gross indecency" between two men was made illegal - and in 1921, a similar law was discussed for women as well.
But this didn't get very far in the House of Lords, partly because they didn't want to discuss the matter and partly because they believed women were so impressionable, if they heard about women having sex with other women, they might want to try it for themselves.
"theSexual Offences Act of 1967, when gay sex was decriminalised in England and Wales..."
Following the act, people were still being sent to "correction centres", and having "treatment" to remove the queer behaviours - well into the 1970s, 80s and beyond. I believe that there are a few left.
I know these aren't exactly happy thoughts, but we should all be aware of queer history in order to help understand ourselves and the potential future - which begins now, by the way - not tomorrow!
