Hi Stevie,  Krista, and all the ladies here on CDH,

Just saw Grace’s post about favorite guitarists as I sit here listening to the Guess Who.  It got me thinking about the fabulous Canadian musicians.  Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Rush BTO, Leonard Cohen, Robbie Robertson ...

Would anyone care to share a favorite?

Alice

@aliceunderwire Although she went independent in 2007, I liked Katie B's voice when she was the lead singer on their first two albums for an industrial / pop band called Jakalope. She may be doing country now. Not sure.

Not a Diana Krall, but I liked her voice.

I should also add Jeff Healey. Saw him a few times around town. He did all of that while blind. Got to see him, Jeff Beck, and Stevie Ray Vaughan (who died a few days later in a helicopter crash) in a concert in the Skydome. All three of them are gone now.

@aliceunderwire Always loved the Guess Who.   Burton Cummings has one of my favorite voices and I love his performance on the song Undun.

Love Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and BTO too.  I like current bands such as Arcade Fire, The New Pornographers and Broken Social Scene as well as Feist solo music.

I was a fan of the Canadian TV show Regenesis and the theme song "Anywhere but Here" by Behavior is really cool too.

I was introduced to Canadian music via and old and dear female friend. I use to stay with her in the middle of four week round world busies trips and would use her house and hospitality as a mid trip break.

She got me into all of these artists are more.

Diana Krall

Richard Samuels, (absolutely gifted songwriter, singer, pianist and guitarist)

Blue Rodeo

Susan Aglukark

Cowboy Junkies... (  I use to get home and then tell my then teenage daughters how "hip and trendy" I was cos I played the "junkies".)

18 years later I have no idea who is "trendy" now, but Still pla ya lot of the above Especially Ms Krall and Mr Samuels

I had to think about this one somewhat, but the obvious one and my fave canadian musician is :

- Carly Rae Jepsen.  I love her music, call me maybe is pure catchy tunes, and she has alot of amazing albums out.

- shania twain.  Really like the fact that her music isn't pure country, but part country and pop which is an excellent mix.

- serena ryder.  I listen to some of her songs, and I like them like Got Your Number.

Sum 41 has been one of my favorite bands for a while.. I was really into pop punk and metal, and they mix those genres pretty well

Hi Alice!  Thank you for this!  The more I think about it the more I come up with.... there really are a lot.  Rush, BTO, and Triumph bring me back to the old days.  I really was into Max Webster back in school as well.   Anne Murray, Shania; and I have to respect Celines' voice too.  Let's not forget Bob & Doug McKenzies Take Off song done with Geddy Lee 😅.  You will notice I havent mentioned Bryan Adam's.....

Seriously though let's not forget someone I love - Gordon Lightfoot!!   He has to be right up there!!  Amazing artist 😎

Omg.  Thanks Heather!  I had forgotten David Wilcox, what a great party dude.  Gonna go spin that album right now 🙂.

Grace I did enjoy listening to Bryan Adams back in the day but sheesh, he was so overplayed in the bars that I got tired of hearing him!  And every girl I in the planet I met back then wanted to listen to him! 😟

Hi Stevie,

I didn’t mention Bryan Adams either.

Gordon Lightfoot is a great choice.  I think Grace would like Bob and Doug McKenzie’s humor.  Anne Murray a great choice too!  Such talent!

Hi Heather,

I remember being gifted a David Wilcox album back in the 70’s.  I think he was considered a “New Age” Artist at the time.
