@valentina16 I can't name just one.   I have a playlist of songs I love and would never turn off if I hear them and it is over 6 hours long.  If I had one that is meaningful to me as a transwoman, it would be Expectations by Katie Pruitt.

@valentina16 I don’t know that it is my favorite song, but it is, in my mind, the finest example of rock talent ever assembled. I vote for “Yours is no Disgrace” from the Yessongs live album.

@scottyjane But of course you may!

I will share, I was well on the way once in 1988 to being offered a job with Peter Gabriel, helping look after his recording studio-retreat. I bottled out because to my immature mind back then, it felt too much like fun, not work. I play guitar, singer songwriter btw. How different my life might have been. 😔

I first heard Nick Drake's "Time has told me" on the Island records album sampler, " Nice enough to eat". A troubled mind surely enough, RIP.

Snowgoose is still played and enjoyed regularly.

I can't even begin to think about favourite songs, there's so many and how do I say this one is better than that one?

Same rules apply, Valentina, I either like, really like or dislike music. There are some that stir emotion but as to favourites, not really.

@alexina - Picking a favourite is difficult but the songs I picked were easily the first two of the three that came to mind, the other one being Jon & Vangelis: I Hear You Now.

Good to know Snowgoose is still played, I've been a fan of Camel for over 50 years and  still listen to them.

How's this for Kismet, I just logged out, decided to look for another Internet radio app and downloaded it. First song that came up was Flight of the Snowgoose! Second was Jethro Tull's " Sweet Dream". They've been a fave band since 1968.

Think I'll buy a lottery ticket 🤔

Oh wow!  I Hear You Now was one of my earliest music purchases.  I remembered hearing it on the radio when I was about 11 and bought the album it was on a year or two later.  I still have that very vinyl to this day 🙂

That song arguably opened the door to all the progressive music that I grew to love - starting with Yes, of course.  Camel was one of many further discoveries a few years later, while at Uni.

Probably my all-time favourite song is Genesis, The Cinema Show.  It already was, long before Fiona, but for those who know the lyrics, one section in particular has now become rather pertinent.  There's definitely "more earth than sea". 🙂

@valentina16 The lyrics of "Walk on the Wild Side" were groundbreaking and risqué for their time, telling stories not usually told in rock songs up to then and containing references to prostitution, transgender people, and oral sex."I always thought it would be kinda fun to introduce people to characters they maybe hadn't met before, or hadn't wanted to meet", Reed said. 😎

What a shame, The Skyarts had the old Transformer documentary, digging down on each track , this afternoon. Have you seen it? Interviews with the man himself, Bowie, Ronson .. and even Holly got a look in. Fascinating program 😀

I really don't have a favourite song; I kinda bounce around from one genre to another and from one artist to another.

One moment I could be listening to anything from Taylor Swift or Sabrina Carpenter, and the next listening to eurodance remixes of songs.

I like such a diverse range of music it’s hard to pick one. I also hate to like anything with massive popularity because I tend to think I have far more discerning tastes than the maddening crowds. However cliche it may be though, I always come back to Strawberry Fields Forever. My favorite version is the mashup of the different takes on Anthology 3. But I will listen to any version of it that comes on and never forward past it to the next song. The reason I love it is because even though I know what it’s about, I can never really know what it’s about. It’s one of those malleable songs. It adapts easily to whatever you need it to mean. That’s the beauty of it. Nowadays when I hear it - it’s about crossdressing. Read the lyrics ladies🥰….it fits! (Think: Strawberry Fields = Pink Fog).

There is no way I would be able to choose one song, there are so many that I love for different reasons, and for me is double as I am bilingual,  can listen to so many great performances. I can say that Queen is among my favorite bands to give you my vote.

@carlafirst11 Queen are in so many ways quite spectacular. Bohemian Rhapsody has I think something like 26 chords in it. Most songs have 3-4, 5 if you’re lucky.

Two languages eh? I have written a song partly in Russian (lamenting the war in the Ukraine). ☺️

@valentina16 Bohemian Rhapsody is on my Top 10 list of “Songs I Never Want To Hear Again”. It just might be the most overplayed song of all time. Although I enjoyed it the first 1000 times I heard it, I now hope to never hear it again. If only…..😊

@valentina16 It’s ok VV, no need for blocking as I don’t hold you personally responsible for any recorded music.😜

It’s just that it’s excruciating for me to hear the same 20 songs over and over again at a time in my life they should be long ago memories. Mony Mony? No thanks. Mustang Sally? Oh, hell no. Brown Eyed Girl? NOOOOO!!!! Thank goodness for YouTube as I’ve discovered so many great songs I always knew were out there, I just didn’t know about them!

A perfect example of this would be “Cliffs of Dover” by Eric Johnson. No idea of its existence until I bumped into it on YT in 2021. You could make a strong argument for that being in the top 10 of best guitar playing ever by a human being. All those years lost that I could have been hearing it.

That’s one of the fun things about retirement for me: Finding cool stuff that I missed because I was working 24/7.

Far too many to even begin. Ok, I’ll begin. “How about, How To Talk Dirty In Hawaiian” by John Prine. “Sam Stone” by Prine would be right up there as well.

@kendra2024 I have listened to and adored Prine’s music since around 1969. Still have most of his original albums but needless to say, most skip on the turntable. Someone once asked me who I would compare him to ie, Dylan, Guthrie, etc. and I told them To me, John Prine is the Norman Rockwell of music. One can visually relate to his music in every day life, in an ordinary way.

What an interesting post with many nice replies. There are a lot of them that I would include on a playlist if they aren't already there. Honestly I have too many to be able to pick a fave as it depends on my mood at the time what I want to hear. One song does stick out though and that is Johnny Cash's 'A Boy Named Sue", it was part of the inspiration for my name - not the fighting and such just the title, seemed appropriate. Like others I have a wide range of genres I like to listen to.

@cdsue A Boy Named Sue is special to me too, unfortunately for different abuse-by-my-father type reasons (as my PM shared). It does however go to show how we can each interpret a song. We survive.

Just watched it. Quite amazing. Almost as good as my ‘Concerto de Aranjuez’ (lol), aka The Orange Juice Song. Seriously, he’s amazing. 🎸
