Sometimes when I'm scrolling through Spotify I find a song that brings me back to a moment in time. Old places come to life with fresh colors and feelings.

When I listen to Katy Perry's "Firework" I can't help but smile.

I'm in college again. The length of my flat is my runway. And I'm working it for all I can in my very first pair of platform high heels. From hair tosses to hip shakes, I've found my moment.

I'm curious what our playlist sounds like.

What song reminds you of the girl inside?

I have my own "girl space" at home where I dress up and here's some of the music artists I put there for inspiration:

Abba, Missy Elliot, Beyonce, Aayliah, Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Lil Kim, Kate Bush, Earth Wind & Fire, Ms Dynamite, Prince, and Phil Spector's Back To Mono boxset. Pop music, no matter the decade it comes from, really does it for me in bringing out the girl for a night of dancing.

I love it!

Thanks so much for the inspo!

I forgot how much I enjoy "We found love" by Rihanna.

I'm excited to explore more pop icons because I agree, dancing's like the funnest part.

Thanks as well for sharing your story. It was touching reading the evolution of your name, Orchard Dwee, and how you've incorporated being a DJ and diva altogether. 😍

What was it like performing on stage as Orchard for the first time?

@katieklashes my "stage" is usually just in a corner of an art gallery or a bar where I'm out of the way so people can walk around. In that way I'm not the center of attention, but I do get people who come up to me to compliment me on what I'm playing, so I do get some exposure. At first, DJ'ing as Orchard made me a little nervous, but I did get acclimated pretty quickly and now it seems perfectly natural to me. When people started talking to me as just another person while I'm all femmed up it really brought it home to me that being Orchard is being myself, the self I want to be seen as, and it became a rewarding experience. Even when I make some mistakes spinning, I now have the confidence not to panic and to just work through the issues. Being Orchard has improved my life.

I'm glad you enjoyed reading my story. It just confirms that the life I'm leading isn't boring and that I'm growing as a person, so thanks for that.

Great song by Rihanna. Such a great voice and the music perks me up. I'm also enjoying my change in interests to more poppy stuff. Once you go pop, you can't stop!  🙂
