Any deadheads out there in cd land? Phil Lesh has died.

Words can't describe the impact the Dead had on my early life.

You were right all along Phil.

It's just a box of rain. Believe it if you need it, if you don't just pass it on.

Hi, eM. Yes, I saw this yesterday. They were a band that I only discovered later, I don't remember seeing or hearing any of their albums when we used to go to each others' houses and listen to records.

Yes, we're at that age when our contemporaries are diminishing in number but the loss is felt more keenly with some. All the more reason to make every day count.

Raise a "glass" to Phil while you're making a day count on a warm beach, eM.

@emmat I was supposed to go see the Dead the year Jerry passed away. I too was a dead head back years ago. Rip Phil.

@emmat Yes, I'm a bit of a deadhead. I saw Phil had passed away, a sad day for music.

I have all the Dead's studio albums, a few of the live triple albums. A few of the solo albums

If I have to pick a favourite album from them it's American Beauty.

I'm a bit of a fan of Bay Area bands and would love to have seen some of them live.

Anna xx

So so many dead albums, my favourites shift with my mood. I'm, still on a jag, Terrapin station is filling my ears atm.

@emmat Another one gone. It's an unfortunate side effect of a lot of the good bands being around in such a (relatively) short amount of time, they are all of a similar age. I wouldn't profess to being a massive dead head but I did enjoy a few of their albums. It seems to be one of the least well regarded but I always liked "Shakedown Street". So much so that I once custom painted the name & the zoot suit picture from the rear cover on my motorbike petrol tank. Even though I say it myself it looked pretty damn awesome.

@sashabennett I think there are only 2 members of Quicksilver Messenger Service (my favourite SF band) left.

@annaredhead I have to say I am unaware of them. Some research is in order methinks.

@sashabennett They vary between heavy bluesy rock and very trippy pysch stuff.

I saw Cipollina when he joined up with Man, a welsh band from the 70s, for a while. Their signature song was 'Bananas'. ("I like to eat bananas, cos they got no bones ..."). Yet more trivia ...

But meanwhile, we're all dropping like flies 😉

@emmat I've got the Maximum Darkness album of Cipollina with Man on vinyl. I'm very envious that you saw him live. I've also got the albums of his other bands.

I agree with Anna. I would have loved to see the Dead live back in the day.

Phil passing is sad but not unexpected, he had some serious medical problems in his older years. When Jerry passed away that was a bit of a shock because many people didn't know exactly how bad his drug and health problems were.

yes you're right Fiona. Living in the edge can it's consequences. In my downstairs loo, I have a picture of Jerry with the tag line "What a long strange trip its been"

I couldn't agree more. lol
