I had never heard of the movie 'The Triple Echo' until it popped up in my YouTube search, in amongst a whole lot of other short videos. It's not the most enthralling movie - it's fairly slow going with a twist at the end. Oliver Reed & Glenda Jackson are the leads in a film about a serviceman going AWOL.
(Note: members can easily find the complete film on YouTube, but with apologies to Michaela I've edited the post to remove the direct internet link. Ellie x)
I saw this film - probably 1976 or thereabouts !!!
The Research Lab where I worked had a "film club" as part of the Sports and Social Club, and put on unusual films one evening each week. My wife and I went to see this and thought it was OK.
Oh gosh, I remember that film. A serviceman is taken in by a farmers wife who's husband has been taken prisoner abroad. he deserts the army staying on the farm helping out. No spoiler alert but was a good film as crossdressing is a sub plot. Oliver Reed and Glenda Jackson probably bought the film to the attention of the cinema world as perhaps it would never have been made. Worth a watch to see the pitfalls of being a crossdresser....
I hadn't realised that the film was based on a novel by HE Bates. He wrote some fabulous stuff, including 'Fair Stood the Wind for France', but is perhaps more widely known for 'The Darling Buds of May' 🙂
Two VERY different books!
I've now ordered a copy of 'The Triple Echo' - I'm curious to see what it's like in print
