After my first 'Stepping out' experience I have related to the old saying 'a journey of a thousand miles starts with just a single step' as I feel it so elegantly sums up my journey so far.
Yes, I am taking little steps into sisterhood, some brave leaps, and some faltering little steps unsure where they are going, but steps forward nonetheless.
I believe that so many of us girls are on a similar journey, some travel faster than others, some know what their final destination will be, some just enjoy the journey and take the scenic route, not worrying too much about the final end of the journey but enjoying the scenery and diversions on the way!
I think that's where I am, not trying to think about where I may end up (yes this is a metaphor for full GRS or maybe just stop the journey at non-op TS/TG) but taking little steps and seeing where the road takes me!
Since my last story I have taken a few more steps, buying clothes in the stores is getting easier and I don't feel self conscious about browsing the sales rails for bargains! Also taking them back for exchanges if they don't fit! Would never of had the nerve to do that just a few short weeks ago!
Without doubt the best steps I have taken recently was to go for a makeover by a brilliantly talented TG who produced some amazing results, definitely gave me the confidence to go on with my journey to seek and bring out my inner woman.
I have taken another pretty big step today. I went to my local Boots superstore (in male mode) and went straight to the makeup counter, browsing the foundations and powders. I had a rough idea what I was looking for but the range of colours and shades is so wide!
After a minute or two the sales assistant asked if she could help. Well, here we go I thought. "I am looking for foundation, concealer, and fixing powder, just not sure about the colour," I explained.
She started to explain about the different products and then, with a dry mouth and lump in my throat, I added "It's for me"
"Wow, of course," she said. "Would you like me to colour match you?"
From then on I was so well looked after, she did an electronic colour match and selected a couple of shades that were good for me. She helped me with other bits and pieces and even got me to sign up for a store loyalty card!
"Hope to see you whenever you need makeup advice or any other help," she said with such warmth and smile that I just felt totally at ease. I will definitely go back.
So girls, if you are hesitant about stepping out, or about shopping for clothes, makeup, or anything else your heart desires (heels come to mind for me) then know it might turn out better than you expect. Take steps as big or as small as you are comfortable with but take them with confidence and above all ENJOY THE JOURNEY.
Congratulations Georgie. As you've discovered, public attitudes are changing rapidly and the positive experiences far outweigh the negative ones.
Big steps, small steps or even the occasioanl hop - they don't matter as long as they are foward.
i hope you get to wear out that loyalty card.
Georgie,
Reading this I felt certain I was reading something that I had written about myself as the feelings and experiences you described were near mirror reflections of my own actions and attitudes. Thank you for encapsulating my experience within your own story and I'll continue on the same journey you are on enjoying every step regardless of my destination!

I did that a few times and I have to say it was good experience more than bad. There was on older lady that it did not go well with. I laugh today. I did not laugh that day, I let her embarrass me to the point I just left.
But you know not everything in life works out great but it is like riding a bicycle. you just have to pick it up and do it again !!!
