Class of 72 --Your The Best

My high school class reunion weekend was such a wonderful dream.  I told everyone how the reunion night went itself, but the next 2 days in town were just as fulfilling.

On Sat the 9th was the small town event complete with a parade.  The parade was to be at 3:30 pm and our class was to meet at 3:00 pm.  I got to the downtown area about 10:00 am and was a little lonely looking for someone from the night before.  Fortunately, I bumped into Barb after 15 minutes.  We chatted for about 20 minutes walking around the town square, she was also looking for an old friend from the night before, but they were not answering their phone.  We spent a pleasant time just walking around. It is great being treated as just another old girlfriend.   After checking out a number of different vendors we finally found the missing friend she had been looking for.  We spent the next hour or so just talking and sharing a burger.  I felt so wonderful just being treated as one of the girls.  There were now 4 of us Barb, Denise, Nancy and myself and everyone called me Cassie.  All these girls only knew me as the quiet shy nerd from HS but being treated as an old girlfriend and included in the conversations was so so so ......

Shortly after 1:00 pm, we all went to Denise's house to rest up and cool down before the parade.  It was again great to spend some time with girl talk.  Just before 3:00 pm Denise drove us to the starting point of the parade.  We rode in a covered trolley and I was able to sit in the back with most of the girls.  Nobody treated me any different than any of the other girls there. They held us back to the last quarter of the parade because one of our classmates is the mayor and he had to be in the front of the parade and he was able to get on with us just before we were half way through.  The whole parade we spent waving at the crowds and throwing out candy and frizbees.

After the parade, 3 of us went back to Denise's house to cool down.  A little after 6 pm we went to the little class party half a block away at another classmate’s house.  I was able to visit with a couple of other people that I didn't have a chance to visit with the night before.  It was so amazing to be accepted by so many of my classmates as Cassie.  Talked to Duane a few minutes about his unusual skin condition and then to Jim who told me he was happy for me that I could find and express my femme side.

There were a couple of people I wanted to talk to a couple of minutes, but it was not meant to be. With one individual, every time I tried to work my way toward him, he went the other direction.  He is likely the one who would have made a negative scene.  Even the spouses present were pleasant and accepting.

As the sun was starting to go down, the party broke up and we walked back to Denise's house.  Denise told me she was sort of “looking out” for me.  That if anyone treated my badly she was going to stand up for me. Thankfully, it was not needed.  Then she invited me and Barb to her Church the next morning.

At Church in the morning, it was for me a different sort of service, contemporary, and almost all the songs with a 15-minute message from the pastor.  I couldn't help myself, I started crying, emotions were all over the place.  Part of the message hit me when I thought about the weekend and how accepting everyone was.  It was SOOOOOOOOOOOO special!!!!!

My everlasting thanks to Becky, Pam, Denise, Denise, Barb, Nancy, Susan and everyone who made this such a special weekend for me - CASSIE!!

To all you girls here at CDH, yes I was scared to do this the weekend before but also excited once I decided to do it.  To let you all know I live in a small town in Iowa (pop 1300+) and the reunion was in another small town (2600+) about 1 hour away from home.  I could not have done any of these things without reading the wonderful adventures of many here.

Has anyone else here done anything they thought they would never do after reading these stories?
