Hello, darlings.
this is your nosy manager back for another issue of Managers’ Musings, and I’m going to tell you about yet another attempt to draw our members off-site, where the staff can’t take action to protect our members.
a member (almost always a new member in the last few hours) contacts a member, often it’s new members, but sometimes it’s ones who are well established on the site.
the first thing this new member (who, hereinafter will be referred to as “a troll”) is to send a private message to our members, asking for off-site chat, phone, email address, zoom, insta, skype, google chat, etc… this should be a HUGE tipoff… I don’t know about you, but I come to this site to be on this site, and not to be immediately whisked off to someplace else.
if you send a member your offsite contact information, there is NOTHING the staff of this site can do to help you.
if someone contacts you for this reason and it doesn’t seem right, please contact a staff member, or even better, a manager or myself immediately!
now, obviously, you’ve chatted with someone for years, you want to meet for coffee, etc, you may wish to share some such information between you… ensure that you do that in either a private chat or private message. Those are the ONLY secure and private ways of sending messages on this site. again, if this goes bad (it has for even me… once…) there is nothing this site and the staff can do for you.
Please, darlings, be internet safe!

Thank you for the heads up. Much appreciated.
Thank you for your informative article..forewarned forearmed …

Thank you, BillieJay, for your constant vigilance. And thanks also to the "troll hunters" who find these people and cast them out into the non-femme darkness from whence they came.

Thank you BillieJay for the heads up and warning. I've been fortunate never to have a CDH member (Troll) contact me requesting off-site chat, or personal information, but if this happens, I will notify you or another manager.
Thanks for keeping our CDH family more safe.

Thanks for the article. I personally have never had a troll ask me for off site contact although I did meet one of our lovely members in person who lived in a neighboring city. That experience went extremely well and we became fast friends. On other sites, however I have had a couple people try to use my cross dressing and activities as a tool against me. They actually tried to blackmail me and claimed they would expose me to my family. It did not succeed for two reasons. One, I have already come out to my wife, the most important person in my life. Who kissed me and told me she still loved me and although she doesn’t understand it, she still cares, as long as I keep things out of her view. The other family members… meh, who cares. Secondly I know that these blackmailing trolls seldom , if ever, make good on their threats. I just block them and move on. Now as an added defense I use one of the many “burner phone” apps when I give out phone numbers to potential friends. They can’t use that App phone number to track me down or find information to use against me.
So if you are asked to meet offline, and you think this person may actually be the real deal. Still protect yourself. Give the app phone number first. Never give your real phone number to a stranger. I know that sometimes we are tempted to give that number in hopes that the person is really just looking for a friend. So give that app phone first, just to be safe.

It happens, I get a request now and then to chat elsewhere. It always sets off my early warning system. Thanks for posting this @billiejay
