I've been richly blessed. Throughout my transition I've found angels who have loved me, encouraged me and helped me along in my journey. These people have become part of my transgender story, and woven themselves deep into the fabric of my self discovery. I still stay in touch with many of them, and those who I no longer see in person I can see all the clearer when looking through the lens of my heart.

I call them the superstars of my transition, and to honor them I've started a new series on Crossdresser Heaven. From time to time I will share with you, lovely readers, a person from my life who has touched me, and helped me discover myself.

A Transgender Woman In Search of a Good Hair Do

To start off the series I'd like to tell you about someone I've known for more than nine years. She knew me when I was single, when I was married, she saw me wrestle with my authentic self and back away many times, and she remains a dear friend and superstar of my transition. She is my hair dresser, and owns a salon in Kirkland. Her name is Saida, and she has my gratitude.

I first met Saida when I was just beginning to find the world of crossdressing. Despite having a need inside me for many years, I had only just discovered that there were others like me. Saida patiently showed me how to use the various instruments required for a fabulous hair do, and tended mine as I steadily grew it out. Before getting married, cutting it again, and having to endure the whole process of growing it out once more.

She was also one of the first people I came out to - as I was just learning how to come out I think I could have done it a bit more gracefully - but one Saturday I showed up as Vanessa, not knowing what to expect. I definitely did not anticipate her cries of delight as I introduced myself. Since then she's been a sounding board and we've discussed everything from fashion to makeup to my transition to divorce to friendship.

I feel blessed to have known her for nine years, and touched by her openness and support for me. If you're ever in Kirkland looking for a haircut, stop in and give her salon a try. I'm sure she'll be thrilled to hear Vanessa recommended you. Even if you don't choose to disclose your transgender status, you'll come away with a great hair cut and color!

Vanessa,

It is so true that with a successful transition there are these "superstars" who help us. And to have a supportive person who can also help us look beautiful is a double blessing. I go a salon in Seattle's Madison Park neighborhood and i love the women who take care of my hair. Like you i've learned a library worth of knowledge them.

Carla

What is it about our hair dressers? Mine to is very comforting to be around and talk to. She loves my hair because its long and curly. I stop in just to chat when she has no customers. Although I havnt told her anything I think my choice of hair cuts must be a giveaway on who I really am.They must have telepathy but have you noticed the good ones love to chat.
