Marie, you got my curiosity going, I had to check it out right away (also checking family members).

The name I picked years ago is Cassandra Joyce.

Cassandra is one who entangles men,or one who men follow, or helper and protector of men

The shorten Cassie means beautiful angel or shining over man.

Joyce means happy, joyful, full of joy.   I try to keep Joyce in my mind because in my best days my CD makes me happy.

Cassie

Hi Marie

What an interesting topic - I'd never given any thought to what Jenny actually might mean.... I chose it because it was a nickname I was given when I grew my hair long in my early 20's - one of the guys at work called it me instead of my normal name (also starts with a J ) as he was basically saying I was a girl for growing my hair long and tying it in a pony tail!  I wasn't intending to be girly back then, just growing my hair like lots of lads my age at the time who liked rock music... If only he could see me now!!

So a quick google revealed:

Welsh: A shortened version of the Welsh name Gwenhwyfar, which means "white wave" or "white spirit". Gwenhwyfar is derived from the words gwindos, meaning "fair," and hwyfar, meaning "phantom" or "spirit".

Cornish: A Cornish form of Guinevere, which means "white spirit".

English: A diminutive form of the name Jennifer, which means "God has been gracious" or "fair and yielding".

Celtic: Means "white wave".

I kinda like all of them, so I'm quite happy with that. I'll keep Jenny as my name then!!

Thanks for the topic,

Jen x

Very cool topic Marie Claire!   Of course I had to go look Lauren up.   It goes back to ancient Rome and refers to one who is crowned with Laurel as a symbol of victory.   I like this on so many levels.   For me it represents victory over the programming which has constrained my femininity for too long in my life.  It also represents victory over the fear of getting out in the world as Lauren.   I like my name even more now!!

it’s interesting that we’re given a name, but in our situation, we get to choose one that is meaningful for us. One of the perks!

I chose the name Miranda because it has the meaning of admirable. In  my eyes ( or I guess ears)  Miranda a very elegant and feminine name. It’s also the name of a moon of Uranus, which for me is important since I’m a bit of a science nerd.  That moon has a very complex landscape, which is not unlike my complex personality.🤦🏽‍♀️

Áine (pronounced "awn-ya") is an Irish goddess of summer, love, wealth, sovereignty, and fertility.

Associated with: The sun, midsummer, animals, and agriculture
Symbolism: A radiant queen, beloved for her beauty and benevolence

The name means "radiance"

Áine is often depicted as a radiant queen, and is sometimes represented by a red mare.

As you can see, I decided on my name long before I started CDing, it encompasses everything I want to radiate as a women.

Thank you for posing these questions, Marie Claire, because I just found out that I was wrong about mine.

First of all, my recollection was that Harry was just a familiar form of Harold. It isn't. They have two separate origins. You see, my mother's father was named Harold, so I now think that her parents named my mother Harriette thinking that the names were related. If so, then they were wrong, too. I never got a chance to ask anyone about this while any of them were alive, not even about my own real name.

However, Harry and Harriette are directly related and have the exact same meaning behind them. Harriette is just the French female variant.

The name Harriette is a feminine name of French and German origin that means "home ruler":

Origin
The name comes from the Old German name Heimiric, which is derived from the words heim meaning "home" and ric meaning "power, ruler".

Variations
Harriette is a variant of the name Harriet, which can be lengthened to Harrietta or Henriette.

Nicknames
Popular nicknames for Harriet or Harriett include Hallie, Hattie, Hetty, Hennie, Harolda, Harry, Harri, and Etta or Ettie.

My father used to call my mother Harri all of the time. I chose to use her name for three reasons. To honour her, of course, and it is a rare name nowadays, so it should stand out. The 3rd reason was that I used to be hairy. Used to be, not so much any more.

Leonara —- feminine name of Greek and Arabic origin that means "light" or "compassion". It's a variation of the name Leonora , Eleanor, and has roots in Italian and English cultures. In the 19th century, it was a popular name in Western countries, I chose Leonara as a form of my middle name .. and as my name means compassion for my feminine persona …

Angela, Greek and Latin roots. Deriving from the Greek word 'Angelos' or Angel.

I once asked my mother what would she have named me if I was born a girl and that's how my name was chosen.

The real meaning of my name is my identity, the person I now am.

Googling Joanna, apparently it means ‘God is gracious’. Oh dear; I am an atheist!

I arrived at Joanna by simply feminising my actual name.

Hello Sea-originating Illustrious and Enlightened Woman!

According to ancient CDH (which is the CDH before the changes that wiped out my likes and thanks) Autumn Valiant meant excessive liker of posts. 😉

edit: I was so busy trying to be cute I forgot the story..... Before joining CDH, I read a lot of articles, posts, and profiles without commenting or anything. I found out I "needed" a name here when I went to join. I chose the last name first since joining CDH was a bit scary and so was the though of one day sharing this with my wife. (still haven't done that yet). I picked Valiant from a search of synonyms for brave. Then I needed to find a first name so I went to a site for baby names. I didn't get far through the girl names before the name Autumn seemed to jump off the screen and grab me.

Hugs,

Fall Bravey

The name Jackie was chosen/given to me by my late female partner, we always kept me dressing quite and behind door's, i was always in male clothes when we was out the house, it became an idea to have and use a female name for when we went shopping, she would ask "do you think, or i think Jackie would like this" i still use the name...

Cerys... Attractive, husky, funny, Welsh, and welsh speaker..... Cerys Matthews (Catatonia)
When thinking of a name, I wanted one that no one I knew or was related to had the same name. This proved difficult. I also wanted a welsh name ideally.... Cerys was the obvious choice. I adore Cerys Matthews. Google her singing Calon Lan on her album called Tîr (Earth). A traditional welsh song. Cerys sings it so pure and clear. It's stunning.

@dazzler Cerys Matthew has a beautiful voice and sings clearly. I listened to a couple of her songs and instantly teared up. Good music does that to me. Thanks for the lead.

Great question!

While I did like Rachel as a name, I went with the more French version.

It's nothing like my boi name and distinctly feminine.

It, apparently, also means "ewe"

Great topic! Thanks for sharing it. I used to go by Ashleigh, but I found that Emily seemed more suited to who I was. I don’t know the meaning of it, but would be curious to find out.  The middle name I use is Dawn. That represents to me a new beginning.
