A few weeks ago, I wrote about my planning process for going on  an outing. Article. I promised an update with photos.

I live about an hour south of Indy and my plan was shopping then the Indy RV Expo. I had planned on a dress (left picture at JC Penney) for shopping and a blouse and pants for the RV expo as this was definitely a more casual event and I always try to blend. I wore a Nine West sweater dress and opaque black tights with ankle boots. It was 4F degrees when I woke up that morning.

My first stop was at the Greenwood Park Mall and I arrived at about 9:15 am. The mall did not open till 10, so I went to the nearby Kohls to shop. I first had to use the ladies restroom as the coffee I had drank that morning was requesting an exit. Shopping, I tried on some intimates and a few blouses and dresses but did not find anything that called my name and it was just after 10 that I went over to the Mall and into Macy's. Here I did have some better luck and found an INC blouse which I ended up wearing at the Expo (right picture). The Penney's in the Mall did not open till 11 and it was still too early, so I decided to go elsewhere.

The second stop today was actually a Harley Davidson dealer; my drab self is looking for a new bike and my local dealer did not have the color I wanted in stock. I did not interact with anyone here, but did go in and see the bike and take a picture.

Nearby was another JC Penney and it was past 11 so I went there to shop. Another restroom break and more trying on clothes. I tried on some blouses but did not find anything in the dress section I liked so I did not end up buying anything here. Kohls was next and it was only a few miles away and there, I found a new bra I liked as well as some shape-wear that I purchased. I tried on about 7 different things but did not find any clothes here I liked.

It was now about noon, so a stop through the McDonalds drive-thru for lunch and then to the Castleton Mall. I first went into JC Penney but their selection was terrible and did not end up trying anything on. I then walked the entire mall, all the way to the other end, to the Shoe Dept. They usually have shoes in my size (12W) and I did find one pair of ankle boots, which I tried on, but the heel was too tall. I then started my way back along the Mall. Torrid had two dresses I tried on. Torrid is CD friendly and I gave my name Diana to the associate, who wrote in on fitting room door. I liked one, but it was a bit too much; maybe later when it goes on sale. Lane Bryant did not have anything I liked. Macy's in the Mall has the largest plus-size section I have found in Indiana and I spent a lot of time trying on clothes. I did end up finding one dress that fit me well for a future summer outing and I also tried on some intimates as well but did not find anything I could not do without.

It was now time to go to the RV Expo which required an outfit change so I pulled into a fairly deserted parking lot and changed my outer clothes before parking at the State Fair grounds and walking to the West Pavilion for the Expo. Paying my entry fee, I went inside...and was immediately disappointed. I had been here previously, years ago and it was much larger then. I was hoping to see a lot of vendors selling accessories but there actually were only two—and they did not have much. The others were selling gutters, windows and all that garbage. I had purchased a Class C motorhome this past fall so really was not that interested, but since Diana was here I decided I might as well walk around. I did go into a bunch of travel trailers and a few Class C's and did end up taking a picture in one. I spent about an hour walking around, then a quick restroom stop and back to the car.

It was now about 3:30, so I made a quick call to my wife to see how she was doing today. I told her I was having a good time (at the hardware stores and Harley stores) and she encouraged me to continue on and not rush home—that was all the encouragement I needed.

I decided to go back to the Greenwood Mall and hit the JC Penneys I missed that morning. More try-ons but did not find anything I liked. I did spend a while also looking at swimsuits though—we have a hot tub and I will occasionally wear a women's suit into it— but I did not find anything that would work for my body shape. I walked around the Mall for a bit but did not go into any other stores.

I wanted to go to another Shoe Dept. and there is one to the south but on the way, I saw a Harbor Freight. Drab me needed a new pipe wrench and I had a coupon for it so I went into the store but could not find one; I had to ask an associate for help. Finding it, I purchased and then back on the road. This Shoe Dept. was large and I have found several pairs in the past here, but did not find anything in my size that attracted my interest. There is a Kohls down the street so more dressing time. I did not however find anything that I needed or that fit very well.

It was 7pm and time to start home. First I had to put Diana away and bring out drab self. A half hour later, makeup removed and redressed, I continued on home. In all, I spent about 10 hours out as Diana and it was a great day. My voice is not terrible, but not great either, but I never had any issues interacting with anyone; I did not notice any weird looks either. I am not sure how well I pass, but I really do enjoy going out and as you can see, have no issues going anywhere.

So happy you had a great day. You found the same thing I have, if you do your best to pass most people will just accept you.

Unfortunately my Diana time is limited so I take advantage of every second I get.

That was a wonderful story and delightfully told. It is nice your wife is encouraging (though, based on the end, maybe not wanting to see?). It's too bad so many of your shopping trips were busts but it sounds like they were enjoyable nonetheless.

Glad to hear of your interactions with people and lack of any issues you experienced. It is definitely encouraging to the rest of us that want to go out and experience the world en femme.

She is encouraging because she did not know I was out as Diana. She thought I was out in drab going to woodworking stores.

The first time is definitely hard. But it gets much easier over time. It is an awesome experience.

I love your story Diana! Your experiences with others is similar to mine. No one pays attention, and when they do, it's usually returning a smile. Thank you for taking the time to write this.

I posted a picture this week of another outing. This time I also went into Rockler, a woodworking shop, to pick up some accessories I needed for my workshop. I was wearing a gray sweater dress the same style as this one but with suntan pantyhose instead of black. Did not have any issues. I seem to be getting more and more embolden over time.

Not sure I would have the energy for all those trips to the dressing room, but it sounds like you had a good time with it. Are you completely in the closet with the wife?

We are DADT. She is unaware as far as I am aware that I have ever gone out dressed. I love my shopping time.
