Hi, toots! If you want to pass as a woman, skip LGBTQ venues. They’re friendly but no challenge means no fun! Prepare for how to serve Mother Nature should she call. I found it a real kick when a young lady in the ladies’ room chatted with me as who I appeared to be. I replied in a few syllables to (I hope!) not disclose my internal mechanisms.
My own first venture was with a cosmetologist who made me up. She predicted I would pass and was amused at my nervous uncertainty. She and I visited a dept store, were greeted by a man with “Hello, ladies” at the door (not proof of passage but my accomplice was satisfied that it was sincere), and shot selfies inside.
Keep your receipts as souvenirs of your sortie en femme, honey!

I hope you didn't chicken out and you had a wonderful experience.

I remember my first experience walking out the door in public. To be able to freely express my feminine side openly in public was so wonderful.

I just couldn't believe how differently people treated me. I was passing with flying colors and yet behind the dress, make-up, and wig I was still just me.

Living life full time as a woman is something I would not want, but I can't begin to describe how much fun I have going out and setting my feminine side free to openly express herself.

I finally came to the realization that I didn't care as much about others' opinions and simply went to have a good time. I think that gave me the ability to be more natural - I'm 6'1 and in even 3" heels I stand out so I gave up on trying to pass and instead really reveled in the attention. Now I absolutely love being out - I get no attention walking around in male, but wow, you're a celeb as a lady! Tips - be as natural as you can be (practice helps); 99% of people out there are okay ( had one gay bouncer and one snotty waitress comment in 10 years ) ; don't wear 5" heels and a shorty club dress to go to the mall at noon; try to limit makeup if you're out during the day (go nuts at night); the hardest is building confidence and loving yourself! I've had many positive, unsolicited compliments from people - believe me, nothing makes you feel greater than that.

There's only one time I've gone outside dressed en femme, and it was more than fifty years ago. In 1972, in the height of summer, at the age of 15, I borrowed my stepmother's red floral midi-dress and went out in the full morning daylight, about 4:30 am, and walked around my block. I was simultaneously terrified of meeting anyone on my morning jaunt and deliciously delighted at the sensation of being out and girly with a cooll summer morning breeze playing around my skirt 🙂
