Come on girls, I want to know what are the stockings that you really enjoy wearing (I'm assuming you DO enjoy them!)
Although there is a vast choice out there when it comes to hosiery, I bet the majority will say either black or fully fashioned nylons Those seem to be the favourite among crossdressers. Or fishnets, maybe. Look through any type of crossdressing site and most of the 'girls' are in black stockings, usually with suspenders. Why is that do you suppose? Is it because black is more flattering, more slimming? Or does it hint at naughtiness whereas, say, tan stockings are associated with work wear?
Who prefers proper stockings as opposed to hold-ups? Should they have seams? Is there anyone out there who would rather struggle into a pair of tights?
Personally, I don't like wearing fishnets (though I do have a couple of pairs because occasionally it's nice to be a bit naughty!) They don't have the sensuous feel of traditional stockings, though the nature of the 'net' is certainly flattering when it comes to shape. I'm not that keen on stockings that need suspenders either, which probably makes me unusual (or more unusual than I already am!) And although I do have plenty of black hosiery, they're not my first choice when I crossdress and transform into Jemma.
For me, my go to stockings are natural beige, lace-top hold-ups, usually worn with nude-coloured high heels. I adore them and have many pairs from gossamer thin 5 denier to 15 or even 20 denier ones that hide many blemishes and hairs! I suppose I love that secretary look!
I also have several pairs of sheer-to-waist tights (again in natural beige), which feel wonderful but can be rather restrictive when aroused. If I'm wearing hosiery under my jeans, which I often do, then I admit I usually revert to tights as they somehow feel a bit safer! And if I choose one of my micro miniskirts to wear, then it's always tights.
White stockings are very popular. I suppose because they hint at being innocent, but I've never bought any, and probably won't. I suppose I might if I wanted to dress up as a blushing bride, but that's pretty unlikely!
Old fashioned 1950s fully-fashioned nylons don't do it for me at all, they are never long enough, they have no elasticity and are often wrinkly - a definite no-no! Technology has moved on and stockings and tights now are clingier. So, what's the attraction in wearing an out of date pair? To me, it's a bit like preferring to drive an old 1950s car rather than a brand new one!
Then there's patterned tights and stockings. I usually give those a miss, apart from one lacy pair of stockings (black incidentally) which I sometimes slip on just for a change. Generally, I prefer to look as if I'm not wearing any leg wear but instead have smooth tanned legs - hence my preference for beige or nude.
And what about opaque tights or stockings? Anyone love wearing those? I have some which look good with ankle boots but because of their thickness they never feel as sensuous - and it's that feeling of sensuousness I get from nylon-clad legs that I so enjoy.
And finally; how and where do you buy yours? Are you bold enough to walk into a store (in male mode) and buy some? Or do you hide behind the anonymity of the internet and order online? I've done both but when I buy over the counter I am ALWAYS convinced the sales assistant knows they are for me. I used to be bothered by that but these days less so.

I really enjoy wearing fully fashioned stockings - I buy them online from Stockings World.
I like Silkies from Amazon. They look and feel great, and they don't run "quickly". I like nude, jet black, and off black.
I LOVE wearing nylons. The wonderful rush that is simply being a woman is amazing. I love being a girl.
@transmate2010 Unfortunately, Jemma was last on-line more than two years ago.
However, to address the title question, I use Sheertex, as I have related here a few times.
In a rush, I tried to find some red stockings and could only find a pair that needed a garter belt, at Victoria Secrets. I will let you in on a secret - they were expensive and didn't even last one night out.
I prefer stockings, but I also have a few pantyhose, with which to learn. They don't get much use.
Except for a pair of knee-highs bought locally, I have a few mailed in from China. I am afraid to even sneeze towards them, so they still remain untested.
However, my favourites, by far, come from Sheertex. The company was founded on the principle of making pantyhose /stockings that last. They succeeded! They make a narrow range of stockings, but a much larger range of pantyhose, mostly black, but they occasionally have different skin matching colours, and red ones.
Regardless of what we prefer, the one test that they must pass is lasting more than one night out. If they can't do that, then they are garbage no matter who makes them or how nice they look, no matter their cost. Walking around with your heels or toes sticking out of holes is a no-no.
Since a sales clerk told me about Sheertex, I wear nothing else. They are designed to last and they aren't cheap, but the longer that you can wear a pair, the more economical they become. Each time.
Sheertex make only a few styles (with patterns or plain) of stockings, so the choice is quite narrow. They have a wider variety of pantyhose. The longest lasting pair of thigh-high stay-ups that I have is a plain set with back-seams. I have literally lost track of how many times that I have worn them. It has to be close to ±100 times, though.
They aren't the lightest weight (dernier), but they are thin enough to look good. The thin ones wouldn't last anyway.
One thing that I have learned is that pretty patterns, such as diamond lines, in the stockings will shorten their lifespan. They set up stress points in the material.
Sheertex also stand by their products. I have encountered a few issues, for example, such as one pair of stay-ups that would not stay in place. The silicone just wouldn't hold. They were immediately replaced.
So, for these reasons and more, I buy Sheertex stockings. There is an international web store, but the majority of sales are in the US. I had no problems ordering in Canada, and they frequently have large discount promotions and, occasionally, special items.
Although I have begged them to make garter belt stockings, so far, they have not.
In the meantime, I will continue my longevity testing.

I prefer a garter belt, too, but if you want a pair to last longer than just one outing, get some Sheertex before they disappear, maybe forever.
@transmate2010 I guess I’d start with just classic stockings… nice hold ups with a lacy top. However my current pairs are fishnet… and an opaque pair with bows. Can I add a pic? I assume not.
very much black but I do like red and my next but will be white. Amazon is easiest for buying but that reduces choice as I have to get my girlfriend to buy them for me. I also like Ann Summers if I have the freedom to buy them.
May fantasy is to be able to walk into a shop and choose a pair from the shelves and walk up to the till and buy them…
@transmate2010 Oh yes, I do enjoy wearing them. I have for over 60 years.
As for color I generally have 4 on hand. Nude of course, suntan as I tan easily in summer, coffee as I love the monotone look with my brown skirts and shoes and of course black. Nothing is more slimming to the leg, more sexy, more intriguing than black hose. I don't care for fishnets and patterns. I'll leave those for the young gals.
Pantyhose are my go to and in fall and winter I wear them almost daily. I don't mind bare feet in shoes or sandals in summer but not when it's colder. I have everything in hosiery. Pantyhose, thi-hi's and of course garter stockings. I don't do knee-hi's though. I love my seamed stockings and love a cuban heel. RHT is right up my alley, but I need something with a little stretch. I certainly don't love seeing a woman wearing nylons that bag when she stands.
Tights, yes of course for the cooler months as they are stylish and warm as well. There I show my colors and have brown, black, green and blue for different outfits. White just doesn't work for me.
Brand wise I love my Hanes Silk Reflections. I used to wear Silken Mist but Hanes has a larger size range and I feel I get a better fit with them. I really can't see paying a fortune for hosiery. I've never tried those expensive brands. Maybe someday I'll splurge but if I can get 3 pair of Hanes for $25 why would I pay $40+ for one pair that I might ruin in one wearing?
What do I prefer to wear? Depends on my mood, my outfit, where and what I'm doing. For everyday it's pantyhose. Just so convenient. If I want to feel a touch more feminine I'll don a pair of thi-hi's preferably with a lace top. If I'm feeling sexy and sensual or it's nice party and I want that extra push then it's surely a pretty garter belt with stockings and the style of the stockings will depend on the event and the venue.

@transmate2010 I don't always wear stockings but when I do I wear Leg Avenue stockings. If you look at the 2nd photo on my profile collage, I'm wearing them in tan. Here is a link to me at the same event on YouTube.
I wore that same outfit for the Lion's Club Halloween parade in New Jersey (across the river from Philadelphia a bit) and won 1st place!
I'll be wearing stockings to Meow Wolf in the next week or two. I have a pair in nude.
I don't usually like my stocking tops to show but one year I wore simple white thigh highs with a red cheerleader uniform for Halloween. That was before I began shaving and tanning my legs. It was hot!
Hi Jemma, I have so many pairs of stockings, stay ups, tights, leggings, pantyhose, etc. that I'm not sure where to start. I also have many "seasonal" items with appropriate designs for that time. I also "dabble" in cosplay so that could mean whatever. I guess my favorite that I wear most (even underdressed) are nude or suntan light support (15-20) denier pantyhose on which I cut out the private area for more comfort and ease in the bathroom. I like the nude ph. because if I wish I can still wear stockings or stay-ups over them. If I wear stockings I prefer the "old school" non stretchy type with garters but for convenience sometimes wear stay-ups. (elastic top) I love them all but wear the nude ph. most of the time.

I've had a few pairs in a grey colour too but I'm not into anything in beige,
I'm not into pantyhose or tights,
I've been tempted to buy some stocking's with a pattern on them but you have to go to a specialist store for them,

I also have a lot of nylons, tights, No stay ups tho. I love the different colors so I have colors to match my out fit. I like platno tights, so sexy to wear, also like sheer nylons. but I am always buying new ones and getting more nylons and different colors. I have more then wife does and seem to dress up like a female more then she does

it seems that us x dressers wear nylons and dresses more then real woman WHY is that? real woman don't wear what they call female clothing no more they would rather wear manly jeans and shirt, and that's fine with them. That is cross dressing to me so why can not we dress like woman
I don't thinks, o far I have a deep preference on the type of stockings I wear. Right now I sometime wear tights or pantyhose. I either buy them online or the Target store where I worked for 40 years. The hosiery isle is one past the infant furniture. I look to see if any one is nearby, then walk slowly down the isle. The first thing there is ladies socks ( I now have a lot of socks, next is tights and pantyhose -I've gotten good at picking out something there I want in a half minute or so. The next thing in the isle is foundation garments then pantys then bras. So far I have not been brave enough to stopfor the couple of minutes it would take to pick something there

I love all kinds of hosiery, be it stockings, stay ups, or pantyhose. For sex appeal, I don't think one can beat nice stockings of any kind. Sometimes I like the old fashioned sexiness of fairly plain ones, and have a couple of pair of tan and black ones, with a back seam.
However I do like pantyhose a lot, in part because I like to wear short skirts and dresses, unless one is staying in and wants the rather risque look of stocking tops.
When I go out I dress to blend in, so nothing out of the ordinary then.
Also my legs have good shape, but because of some past injuries I have scars on my lower legs, and prefer 40 denier nude or tan colour pantyhose, which covers them well. Depending on what I'm wearing I will wear black as well.
I love the feel of all of these, and don't mind the struggle to get into pantyhose, and in a perverse way, I enjoy it. The feel of good pantyhose is well worth the trouble.
I have a few pair of opaque 100 denier tights which are warmer in this winter weather.
I do have some white stockings and matching garter which I wore to a 50's party where I dressed up in a 50's style blue and white dress, and recently got a white corset to do as a bit of a bridal outfit. Just for fun, as I don't think I'm getting married again.
Where do I buy them? Anywhere which has what I want. Whether I'm in drab and in a line up in the drugstore, or at any other store, drab or dressed I'm fine with it. No one ever seems to care, and in our small town people chat with each other in line ups, and sometimes I have makeup and pantyhose in my hands and no one has ever commented or given me strange looks.
The 40 denier pantyhose I often get from a seller in the UK, and of course some of the nicer stockings are difficult to find in a store, so they are often bought on line too.

Hi Jemma. I have a lot of stockings and pantyhose. I love red but only wear them on special occasions. I do have a few white ones but the majority are black or charcoal. They hide a lot of flaws in my legs. I have a few that seem to have a shiny sheen to them which I love. I have both stay ups and ones I need a garter. I love wearing garters but I really struggle getting the clasps to work properly, so tend to revert to stay ups most of the time. I do have a few pair of fishnet or lacy ones. Like you I am not a big fan of the feel of them. However on occasion I will layer the lacy looking ones on top of a coloured pair. This gives my legs a look I love. I purchase a lot from amazon but on occasion this is one thing my wife does not have an issue with, so she will go shopping with me in person at a store. It makes it seem like she is buying them for herself and not for me. I still get extremely nervous when I go shopping by myself. I feel like everyone is looking at me and know I am buying them for me. Pantyhose work best under pants or short skirts, otherwise it is only stockings for me.

Just love the feeling still of nylons around my legs. Have mostly black and nude but also like fishnets or fencepost when feeling sexy for special occasions.Also love wearing a garter belt at times for added excitement

My favorite type of stockings are black fishnet, wetlook, and latex. High waist garter belt, or with one of my gartered corsets/basques. I do have a pair of opeque black ones with lace at the top, pretty sexy too!

The only thing I would add to this conversation is that I am also slim but with a little belly fat that I am working on. Regular panty hose come 1/2 way up and over my belly. That either causes them to roll down or create a line in the middle of my belly. Either one not good. There are high waisted versions of pantyhose. They help solve the belly problem. They go right up and end under my wide bralett band.
I have also taken to modifying my pantyhose with a well placed hole up front. That really helps out when going to the rest room, or other things.
As for the “how to buy”, I so enjoy shopping for ladies clothing, I just go right in and buy what my heart desires. No one seems to care at all.
Hi jemma, I have an extensive hosiery collection. Every thing from pantyhose,thigh highs and stockings and tights. My favorite ones though are wide lace top thigh highs. I love the cuban heel with the back seam in black!!:) Love wearing hosiery of any kind!!:)
Jemma I enjoy wear ing Leggs thigh highs. They stay up very well and I love sticking my leg up when putting them on. My favorite color is suntan. It brings out the color in my legs very well. It may be from seeing women wearing them and admiring how good they looked. I also have some pantyhose, also suntan, and I like the feel of the fit of those also.
I have LOVED reading all your comments about what stockings and pantyhose you enjoy wearing, so thank you. Reading your comments got me thinking of my own pet hates when it comes to hosiery, so here they are, make of them what you will!
- Black stockings with white shoes. Ugh! Just No.
- Wrinkles in stockings. Can't bear to see them.
- Holes or ladders - unless of course you are going for a punk/goth look, then it's fine
- Stockings or holdups that are too short. I HATE to see them finishing barely above the knee. I like them as high up the leg as possible to make legs looks longer. I see many pictures of crossdressers in stockings that are too short - I suspect they have nicked them from their wives' drawer and so they are too small. Not a good look.
- Seams that aren't straight! I'm not a huge fan of seams but when I do wear them, they must be straight.

@transmate2010 I have to agree with your pet hates about hosiery Jemma, apart from number 2. I like wrinkles in nylons; at the ankle or at the knee when sitting, I think it looks rather, well... sexy!😳 I used to like pre-lycra fishnet tights that would get a little baggy and wrinkle, in a way that modern ones do not.
I'm a dedicated tights girl... sheer to waist and glossy is my thing. I usually like a nude or natural 10 to 15 denier, although I am a big fan of Cecilia De Rafael Eterno Super Lucido (they feel and look so gorgeous!) and Wolford Satin Touch (especially their 'cosmetic' shade) which are 20 denier.
However, I've recently re-discovered the pleasure of stockings and suspenders, which I like to layer over a pair of very sheer tights (I know, some people think it's weird! In fact, I am a big fan of nylon layering altogether, come to think of it lol). I have a very limited selection of stockings at the moment and an even more limited selection of suspender belts. I don't like skinny little suspender belts, but prefer the deeper ones that don't just slide over one's hips, and preferably with more than four clasps. There is a certain sensuality to wearing stockings and suspenders that I find very... alluring. 🤭
I love ❤️ wearing pantyhose after I shave my legs legs. I love sheer and thigh highs. I own many pairs of pantyhose. Love them.
My favorite stockings are from Secrets in Lace. They feel so smooth. They are a little more on the pricey side though. But you get what you pay for.
