Are you a crossdresser or underdresser?

Crossdresser: Loves to dress completely as a woman
Underdresser: Loves wearing feminine lingerie.

Which spectrum are you closest to?

I failed to post earlier.

For me there’s always an undercurrent of CD urges that I now acknowledge with nice little Reebok girl briefs full time.

Dressing completely and going out is a wonderful but only sporadic occurrence.

in between times I live vicariously on CDH.

@trudi For me, occasionally trying on panties and bras may not be as fulfilling as getting fully dressed, but it helps me enjoy my feminine side in any way I can.
And I love CdH too, participating here is as pleasurable as crossdressing itself.

All or nothing for me. It takes a bit of time but that's all part of the enjoyment. I like to prepare as for an evening out, even though I'm staying in 😊.

So, hair, makeup, clothes, jewellery, it reminds me of watching my mum and aunt get ready to go out when I was young.

I've rarely underdressed, and that was many years ago. I will sometimes wear tights under my trousers, if it's cold and especially if I'm going to play golf.

I underdress when I'm in drab ... I don't actually own any male underwear 🙂

I dress full time at home (and have done for the last 16 years), and I've recently started going out en femme for adventures with friends that I've been fortunate enough to make through the site.

This is where definitions framed as 'are you this, or are you that?' questions start to break down though.

Since I'm trans, I don't consider those occasions when I'm out and about to be crossdressing. What I'm wearing at those times are simply 'my clothes'.

If anything, I feel as though I'm crossdressing when I'm in drab!

@ellyd22 Thank you for sharing your experience. I think that, for now, I like lingerie more than other women's clothing. I'm trying to understand this...

@marieclaire2 By your criteria, I have to be a crossdresser. I do all my outside stuff, shops, docs, dentists & other necessary visits in womens (my) clothes. It's androgynous really, all femme but outwardly I look as people expect an old man to look.

@marieclaire2 I had to select “something in between”. I underdress to some extent every day, but I can’t resist being Joan at every opportunity.

@marieclaire2 Hello Marie, I’m in between, I’d love to be in skirts and cute dresses regularly , when I see Gracie’s pictures I drool… ball gowns are my favourite !!  but that’s a no go with my dear wife around. I am in panties 24/7 and have been for 9 years now… I love to be in lingerie , I sleep in satin Camis and silk panties. I absolutely love thigh highs and sexy garters… but that’s for alone times. I’m in drab jeans for work because I don’t want to destroy my cute jeans. I’m in cute high waisted ladies jeans the rest of the time, or cute ladies shorts in warm weather. I’ve started wearing leggings around home now that we are empty nesters , I love to change into soft and feminine cloths as soon as I get home for the job. We have to do what we can to feel feminine , but so often  there are limits to that … hugs… jo

@marieclaire2 I see  myself as a crossdresser.

I can only fully dress a couple of times a week which I do, but I do wear feminine underwear and use feminine shower gel and deodorant the whole time.

Hugs,

@marieclaire2 thank you for posting.  For some reason, I get absolutely nothing underdressing.  With me I like to be full girl, makeup hair, I’ve gotta have it all, or I just do t feel like a girl.  But, I must say, when I’m dressed, I can’t pass up a mirror.

@marieclaire2 I picked somewhere in between. Yes I do love to fully dress and do it every chance I can. On the other hand I do underdress when not fully dressed. In saying that I wear panties and a bralette daily so it’s become the norm so yea I still enjoy it but it’s more just become the a normal way of life for me.

I'm trans and OUT.  The clothes I wear affirm and reflect who I am.  They just happen to be women's clothes.  My clothes.  I don't even think about it anymore.  I get dressed and go about my day.

None of the choices fit.  I didn't vote.

@marieclaire2 I dress 100% in women's clothes all of the time, but I still don't present as a woman, so your definitions don't include crossdressers who dress as we do.

Some crossdressers are too confusing. 😆

@marieclaire2 Both, when i have time/opportunity full gurl mode is prederred. In a pinch underdressing keeps the pink fog at bay.

Personally it's a bit of both. Sometimes just putting on a skirt and wig is enough but other times only the full underwear, skirt, top and wig will give total fullfilment.

@marieclaire2; I never considered myself an "underdresser" once I started buying panties in late 2015; as I could never risk wearing them under my male clothes at home with my family around or doing errands around town. Any private time at home was just wearing intimates and/or lingerie.

Then in September 2018 I had joined a CD/TG support group and at times I would underdress in my panty and suspender hose under my male clothes when I would go to the meetings. This saved some time as I attended the meetings fully dressed en femme but had to finish changing at the meeting location and could not leave my house fully dressed as "Brittney".

I enjoy wearing female clothes so much and I have been going out in public dressed as a woman since June 2021; I feel it is all or nothing. However since the start of 2022, circumstances have prevented me from going out regularly as a woman and new domestic dynamics have recently allowed me to start wearing panties under my male clothes when I am home alone. So maybe now I do consider myself an underdresser; I just have to get accustomed to this new routine. This is a simple way for me to get in touch with my femme side when I do not have time to dress more "complete" at home or to go out.

So I voted "something in-between".

@marieclaire2 I started crossdressing at a young age, (8) and once I got started, was into dressing at every and any opportunity. Over the years, I almost never underdressed. I was either all drab, or all female. When I dressed I tried to do so as completely feminine as possible. That said, once I began to go out in public, I did my best to blend in wearing appropriate outfits for what I was doing. In over twenty five years of being “out and about” en femme, I never had a negative experience day or night. Today I no longer dress femme. My injury riddled body makes wearing my heels impossible and my appearance when made up is not pleasing to me, so I spend time here stay in touch with friends and hope to offer a valid comment or opinion on occasion. @marieclaire2 Do you go out at all? I started, petrified, by going out late at night, to the remotest gas station I knew was open, and pulling up to the furthest pump. I was using regular, but the ego boost was premium! (and it became a problem 🤣 I had to do some driving to make space in the tank so I could do it again! 🤣 🤣) Train rides are good, too. (If you live near a major city with commuter service-or even long-distance) Everybody's in "elevator mode"-they don't look at or talk to others, and on the slight chance there's trouble, the conductor should have your back... *sigh* we're always figuring the risks for a given adventure... (not unlike real women) 🤣 Like there's a concert coming up I'd LOVE to attend...but I've come up with a dozen painfully valid reasons I should give it a pass...and yet, it's out there, still beckoning to me!... 🤣

I underdress every day. Bralettes and panties. No forms. I'm still in the closet but I've pried the door open to get a toe out. My morning joy is picking my panties for the day.

With roll models like Rachel I'm encouraged.

It’s heavily influenced by who is doing the laundry.

@marieclaire2 I "retired" mens underwear some years ago. My favourite undies now are cotton bikini panties. In effect, if I was really worried that anyone was going to see my panties, then they look almost identical to mens briefs. As it happens, a dermatologist visit recently required me to strip but keep my underwear on. The doc (a she) even pulled them down at the back to inspect my butt cheeks. Never a batted eyelid was seen between any of us, me, the doc or the nurse.

Hi Marie,

I added a poll to your topic 🙂

For the record (and I suspect quite commonly so) I began as an underdresser, but now would consider myself a crossdresser. I rarely go out in anything feminine unless I'm all dolled up.

When I started dressing, and when I couldn't really go out en femme, I underdressed a lot more. Nowadays, I hardly do. Sometimes I will if I am planning on some Natalie time but I have to do something in boy mode prior to that.

But otherwise, my viewpoint is that I am either in boy or girl mode and I don't really like crossing that line anymore. Since I know I can dress fully as Natalie, I want it to be all or nothing.

Foe me, I absolutely love wearing lingerie.  I don't do it full time, and I don't wear it under my male clothes, but when I do put on my lingerie, I have found that getting fully dressed really adds something to the experience.  I feel like I fall somewhere in the middle, if I had to choose, I would say that I am a crossdresser who does it to enhance the underdressing experience. I'm with Gisela. Under-dressing, for me, is a futile exercise as I like to be seen out as a woman. I do wear women's underwear and socks when in drab because it's more comfortable and because I don't want two lots of socks and knickers. In drab or otherwise, I always wear earrings, finger rings, bracelet and necklaces and most of the time, I have my nails painted. I expect a lot of people think I'm gay if they go by my drab appearance; I'm not, but hey, if it makes them feel better...

I’ve only fully dressed on four occasions, each time a professional makeover. While I absolutely adored doing these makeovers, I have been an underdresser for the most part, typically wearing a bra, and occasionally other lingerie around the house with my wife’s complete acceptance.

I love wearing bras too. Perhaps because it's the most feminine piece there is, wearing a bra ends up satisfying me as much as getting dressed completely. In addition to the piece itself, it's magical and very feminine that I can put my arms inside the bra straps, hook it behind the back and then adjust my "breasts".

@marieclaire2 one of the best things about a bra is that there is no equivalent in my drab wardrobe.
When i was a (very) young boy I saw my Mum fasten her bra and it was always from the back , as a result when I started to borrow her bras I naturally started to fasten them the same way.

@joanarbour Exactly!

I started my bra wearing - and my crossdressing journey - by borrowing my sister's bras.
I say mom and sister's lingerie drawers are Heaven on Earth!

Depends on the time of day. I sleep femme every night, bra, forms and nightwear according to the seasons. Right now in an Australian summer, its pure silk camis, french knickers, full length nightie or pj's.

Winter, panties thermal cami and fleecy pj's. Daytime, I underdress every day usually adding 40 denier tights or if warm, enough panty hose.

Used to have regular overnight stays and get my "Caty on" properly, but a couple of pesky health problems stopped that last year. Hoping to resume this year.

So I guess, I'd be a  bit 50/50 depending on the season

I am a crossdresser who dresses fully and almost full-time (circumstances permitting!) when at home and usually underdress when in drab. Most of the time when I'm in drab, my clothes are mostly feminine, apart from the shoes - tights, lingerie, girls' jeans, tops and sweaters.

I like to underdress because I enjoy wearing the clothes and it makes me feel good.
