I don't know how it is in your province or state, but here in Ontariariariooo of The Great White North real women don't raise a fuss at all about paying gobs more for hair cuts and colour, cosmetics clothes and accessories than men do for essential the same things.
I have paid ladies' rates for hair services when I am dressed in femme mode. But I went to one salon here in Ottawa in drab (guy) mode specifically because they listed a much lower rate for mens colour. They tried to charge me the ladies' rate because of my length and they expected me to tip at that rate, ,, but I insisted that should have been the only condition on their price list..not gender. So they have added a caviat on their latest price list for men "depending on length".
How do you feel about the gender gap in pricing?

Hahaha... This experience has been a real eye opener to what women pay for! Even if you think we pay more for this and that... you would be way wrong! Dresses, shoes, jackets, boleros, throws, scarves, sunnies, wigs, cosmetics, product so your skin feels good, laser treatments, jewellery... this list is essentially endless!

The best thing is not having to use sanitary products which come without tax here and are free in schools etc.

All of this has nothing to do with a gender tax... what do guys spend their disposable income on? Car, bikes, toys that go vroom, hair products, suits... see what I mean?

Still better to be a woman don’t you think? xxx Polly

I hope what I say doesn't go sideways; but it all comes down to the government and them taking a look at what else they can slap a tax on.  Rather than control spending it is easier for governments to increase taxes.

Well obviously  they must clearly  state that hair work rates in the amount of work in different hair lengths and requirement need  regardless of gender. Both sexes can either be short or long, and in some cases each require the same treatments. So a universal price scale would be the answer.

Ontario, yours to discover, just don't forget your wallet!  I'm glad you didn't let them get away with that Henrietta, assuming men have short hair and women long hair, thats discrimination - and dumb too.  Sadly we may forget as we enjoy our femininity that women, be it fashion, style, services, ..... jobs, have been getting royally screwed for a long time.   Not really fair being paid less for so many jobs, and having to pay more for services like that.  Granted, on average, women care a lot more about their appearance than men do, and In General (!), ladies have fancier more troublesome hair.

As for taxes, grrr, Ottawa does not discriminate too much, they'll tax the crap out of everyone and anyone!  (Ask a smoker).

Hi....just a thought, but here in England a man can get a haircut in twenty minutes....

Some ladies seem to be in the salon all day...

maybe it's not higher prices for girls, it could just be they are charged RENT!!,

Smiles, grace ❤️

That's a good point Grace.  Jeez, I remember in drab having a haircut in 10 or 15 minutes!  Maybe they dont pay as much attention to men?  I admit, I love time in the salon, not so much the cut ( which is maybe 1/4 inch at most, lol ) it's all about chatting with the girls there - all friendly lesbians - and they like me.  I could spend all afternoon there, oh my!

Stevie 😊

Gen don't get me going on tips!  I've worked in the rest. business most my life and the arrogance of some servers who expect a 20% tip or more, for carrying my cooks' food and the bartenders' drinks to a table!  And yes I  know there is more to it than that, but if you are good - friendly and efficient - you are generally tipped accordingly, if not, too bad for you. (And maybe that should tell you something).  Yes some people are very cheap, but most appreciate and reward good work, in any field.

Just a further note to all, I can't recall much upsizing pushes in my drab haircuts. But in femme mode I have been pitched everything from "the most amazing conditioner to forty dollar hairspray to micro blading and jewellry. Once I took note of their products line, hoping to styfle the question:"What are you using on your hair?". When I quoted their line..."You must be using it wrong". "Let's grab (+$$) another bottle and i'll show you. And when I deferred to a putchase I felt like I ws on rails out of there.
How about just doing a great job?

Thats just as bad as charging people that are over weight more for plane tickets and more for larger clothes sizes.

That is just as messed up.

Hippie

PS

Now that is so true, just look at the crossdresser clothing ads on this site alone. Ever look at their prices.

Talk about a (not saying) but its much cheaper just to shop in person at your local store for womens wear.

They say the internet is cheaper. Haaaa, i found it to be the other way around.

Gender tax never heard of it here in Niagara Falls N.Y area , but for sure woman's clothing is more expensive to a degree then men clothing,  but for a tax on gender   NO.  its a 8% tax on what we buy..          it seems some store prices are higher then others so shop around

CLARIFICATION: I am not talking about government "TAXES" but the gender gap in pricing between "male" and "female" items, products and services. For example: 1/2 hour using essentially the same products in a good salon here in Ottawa almost universally costs more for "women".
However you do pay more tax on a higher bill....

1) I remember the one female cousin that I grew up with always got double what us boys did. You know the uncle cash. When we protested, they always said it cost more to be a girl.

2) Remember that in a free market society, it's supply and demand. Prices are dictated by what someone is willing to pay. I could always get a haircut in about 15 minutes. I don't think I ever saw a woman get done that fast. Most of the time the woman cutting my hair had a woman or two waiting for color or drying to take place. And I went years without knowing that tips should accompany a haircut. So women have always been better tippers. Clothing! Anyone ever notice from children's to adult clothing areas in stores. Females get at least 3 times the space. Even in Walmart! Why? Self explanatory. Not discrimination.

ah I see, yes  female cloths are much more then male cloths and hair salons and more for woman then men. in which is not right.    for clothing what is the big difference between male and female clothing besides color and how much more material is used.
