@kpl58

Pvt. Single engine land, complex

Been years since I piloted anything. Like most costs got prohibitive. Also the Air Force base aeroclub as with many have been closed up for a few years now. So sad.

@kpl58 I was a licensed commercial Helicopter pilot. I was working toward my CFI with plans to work flying full time. Plans changed, things went in a different direction. I do miss getting up in the air all the time....

After 40 years of flying little planes and gliders, I recently gave it up because it was just getting too expensive. My favorite airplane ever was my RV4.  It’s probably the most fun toy anybody whose not a multimillionaire could have.

@kerrismith Kerri, Another cross dressing pilot as well. Love it. Yes the RV4, never flew one but I have heard the stories. Sadly, I too have stopped flying, age, expense, but mostly expense.
Crossdressing is almost as fun and a lot cheaper!  Staci

FW/RW/ASEL/COMM/CFI-FW RW/INST Airplane — And all that will get me a cup of coffee for 5 bucks!!!

Soloed when I was 16. Eventually did crop spaying in the Midwest. Never got to the airlines though but have nearly 3000 logged hours in light aircraft. Love it almost as much as I like being dressed.

I was a student private and glider pilot and did pass the written test.  Then COVID and family needs screwed up my air-time access and I stopped.  Now I have a Mini Max ultralight and am happy.  Years ago I flew and  trained on a T-6 Texan and P51 Mustang (both were way too much plane for my pocket book and little body)  Happy Landings,  Marg

Envy all you ladies.

I wanted to learn when I was 16 but didn't have the money. Life got in the way and never got around to it. Now retired and have the time and the money but just can't see spending what it would cost these days.

I've done 7 hours in a 737 sim..... Does that qualify??

Also sat in the cockpit of the first Qantas 747 400 that flew London Sydney non stop.

We have a sensational air museum here in Oz. Goggle HARS Albion Park. They also have one of the last two airworthy Connies on this planet

They flew it into Albion Park on a runway more suited to DC3's!!! They have four of them as well...

I am surely a different kind of "Pile it". I "pile it" it here and I "pile it" it there

Your choice of the "substance" and keep it "clean"...

Caty.

@erinb That's me too. The furthest I've gotten is playing with flight sims on computer.

@erinb Yeah, the sit-in simulators look so cool. But, expensive. My dressing / fem shoes shopping habit is much cheaper!!

I just play the ones on computer using a cheap joystick. The old Microsoft versions of Flight Simulator are cheaper. I've tried Flight Gear - not bad for free, open-source.

@erinb Same here. I grew up near a major commercial airport (and also close to a military supply base) so saw every type of aircraft overhead, frequently at low altitude and became fascinated with aviation.

By the time I was in junior high school, I had read every book available on aircraft and flying and had a considerable theoretical knowledge on the subject.

There was nothing I wanted more than to fly but this ambition was thwarted by poor eyesight.

Love,

Katherine

Interesting poll. Certainly a bit different than our usual fare.

I share Abigail’s sentiment regarding flying and being dressed! Generally I leave clinic by 2P and get to the airport by 3P. I hold CFI/CFII airplane (land/sea) and glider. Generally I keep 3 students at a time (private, instrument, commercial) but I absolutely love my private pilot students. My high school students are just an absolute blast! They really help me to maintain my sanity.

I'm jealous of your Texan time, Marg. That’s on my bucket list! I also agree with the Max, it’s just plane fun! (bad pun) I crossed 5,500 hrs on Christmas Day. Everyone asked why I flew on Christmas Day, as the weather was 9G18? Simple, I was 3,000’ closer to God that special day!

@dianna Ha ha Dee, I'm jealous of all the hours that you've logged.  Flying the T-6 was like a sky version of my old farm tractor (and almost killed me) while the Mustang was just like a 65 Cadillac.  Both ran close to 1K an hour.  The Mini Max is more me.  Low and slow with 200 ft takeoff and runs on auto gas.  Thank you for training more student pilots.  I really wished that I had the $ and chance when I was young but that just wasn't to be.  See you again in Atlanta presenting too?  Happy Landings,  Marg

@margprodue

Our Airforce aeroclub had what was believed to be the oldest T-34 Mentor. Serial number 8 .1 thru 6 were dismantled during initial testing by Beechcraft. Number 7 is unknown. Number 8 was an A model built in 1952.

I did my compex time in it. Bought 10 hours of blocks time for $300 wet.

Our aeroclub manager Charlie had a 57 V tailed Bonanza. Both aircraft shared the same wings and undercarriage.

The T-34 was traded to Hanscom, Airforce base many years ago for a twin engine Piper. I don't know it's whereabouts now. So sad! 😔

Roger that!

Fixed wing pilots are masters of the air.

Helicopter pilots beat the air into submission

Yes, dear, I wouldn’t miss the delightful folks at ACC. And yes, they even invited me back! Unfortunately I will miss Keystone as I have bottom surgery the week prior.

One thing I always wanted to do while growing up, was to learn how to fly!  I was finally able to take lessons and obtained my private pilot's license.  My experience is limited to Cessna 150, Cessna 150 Aerobat - there's a reason they have an overhead window LOL, Cessna 172 and a Piper Arrow.  I'm not current as I am considered a cardiac patient due to having open heart surgery almost 4 years ago.  I have had the opportunity to be in the cockpits of some amazing flying machines and thoroughly enjoyed each and every moment, they were as follows: A Harvard which is a Canadian T6, a T28 Trojan, a B25, a B17, a P51, a C47 and a B24.  Compared to actual flying time in a much less complicated cockpit, I was always amazed at pilots who mastered flying all of these amazing aircraft!

Hugs girls,

Ms. Lauren M

@reallylauren  Lucky you Lauren.  Those are great experiences.  Because I was small I was once nominated to  crawl up front and be the pretend nose gunner on a B25.  What a view!  We will have lots to talk about when we meet.  Marg

@reallylauren I often wish that I had a 150 to train folks with. It’s such a forgiving and docile aircraft, and inexpensive (as far as aircraft go!) to operate. You know that joke about why there is a rear view mirror in the 150/152? It’s so the pilot can see everyone else who is going to pass them! Laugh Loud

@gwen495 It always hurts my heart when I hear of someone who quit flying, for whatever reasons. Some of the most exciting soaring is done on your continent.

When younger i flew frequently but as many had to give it up as life and expense became too much. Paying for daughters college was a priority.  I do consider it a big achievement in my life and glance up fondly whenever I hear a small plane flying over.

Having identical twin daughters myself, I completely understand the priority and expense of paying for college . . . and graduate school, and law school.
