I have always loved music. It has been a preoccupation of mine since I was little. I was a bit of a snob in my youth and I noticed I had a soft spot for pop songs that my music snob friends loved to deride. 😉

Later, I became a convert to Spotify despite their pathetic compensation to musicians. Having enjoyed playing DJ and making mix tapes, I began making playlists of all my favourite music.

My playlists were a blend of what my two spirits liked. When I began having girls nights though, I found the music I played was not on the money, so Lea began making her own playlists, just for the girls.

I’m curious if other girls have a defined musical taste, separate from what your guy part might like? For me it may be a hold over from being a snob. I wouldn’t have been caught dead listening to, let alone enjoying, Donna Summers as a guy. 😃

Fun question, Lea! I have a WM2F - all radio stations start with the letter W - that I looove to listen to when dressed. All of the songs exalt femininity and sensuality. I've even included a pair of show tunes - "I Enjoy Being a Girl" and "I  Feel Pretty" - which are standard anthems to the divine and transcendent feminine. I've even included Todrick Hall's rather wickedly seductive BPM hit, "I Like Boys," on the playlist. Listening to this array of music is like an infusion of estrogen, definitely setting the mood for a joyous night out.

I usually Listen to the same music. However, I do add a few more feminine songs to my list while I'm in the Pink Fog.

@leainvancouver - Good question !

I had never noticed that my musical taste might change

Jillian likes full sides of LP's of Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, Love and Sigur Ros to name but a few.

So on reflection, it had brought to thought that the dressing is a relaxing and enjoyable event that needs to be savoured and cherished (as time is always short).

When I am Male, I am lucky if I listen to a full track these days as forever skipping and play diverse stuff ranging from 70's disco to Experimental German stuff from the early 70's ( Can, Neu! etc not forgetting Bowie's Berlin phase which the aforementioned inspired) then some Punk. Next would be Black Eye peas and finish off with something from The Fall maybe.

( I should play my vinyl more, cannot skip with them eh?)

I guess Jillian is more content and patient - Can't blame her, she waited long enough to be herself.....

As Mr Cohen said " We are ugly - but we have the music"   Heart Balloon

@justjillian indeed! Dance me to the end of love! You got that right. Being fully dressed up is meant to be savoured and what better way to celebrate it with than with music.

@leainvancouver Since Bianca burst on the scene a few years ago I have definitely expanded the music I love, and I am loving it.
Mostly to do with crashing through toxic masculinity where it had to be rock music, heavy on the drums and guitars.

No longer afraid to freely  admit I love Disco, Dance, pop, Latino, musicals etc. Bring on Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Gloria Gaynor, Lizzo, Shakira, Rhianna, Beyoncé, Kesha, Jennifer Lopez, Earth Wind and Fire, ABBA, The Greatest Showman etc etc, love it! and no longer afraid to admit it.

@leainvancouver I love music.  My Renee list includes Susanna Hoffs. She ha made a lot wonderful music after her days With the Bangles.  I am a little old school as well.  Carol King, Joni Mitchell, Joan Bias, Judy Collins, The Pretenders, The Crandberries. Grace Slick with her Jefferson Airplane days. I love to pay along on my guitar and attempt to sing a long. So many wonderful female artists.  It’s hard to list them all. The MonaLisa twins maybe some one new for you.  The girls do a lot of cover songs.  If they ever come to my area I would go see them as Renee for sure.  They do a fun cover of Hey Bull Dog 🐶

I never made a distinction.  I listened to whatever I wanted regardless of how I was presenting.  That was then.  Girl brain was destined to win the contest.  If anything, I listen to a wider variety of music now than before transitioning.

I love what you said about girl brain was destined to with the contest. Lea is asking for what she needs and she usually gets what she wants!

Hi Lea,  My music is and was always the same.  What has changed is the ability to hear it almost anytime and anywhere that I am.  Coming back from a party at midnight or maybe at breakfast, I can listen to the Yardbirds Heart Full Of Soul at full volume and follow it with a softer Judy Collins Both Sides Now or perhaps switch to Joan Jet Light Of Day etc.  I guess the real change in my music would be the wealth of ways to hear what I want when I want and how I want.  Being an intersex person or wearing an evening gown or lumberjack boots never made any difference. I hope that this makes some sense.  Marg

@margprodue it does. It's not every day I hear yardbirds, even in my yard! It is awesome how we can listen to music now anywhere, anytime. Those songs hold special meaning for me too.

@margprodue  yes , I also embrace both ends, from pounding rock, “ born to be wild”, to soft listening ballads “ unchained melody”.  But I like it all from the simplicity of George Strait to to the perfection of Pavarotti.  My old friends say that my theme song has to “409”.  My son could sing it at age 2.  LOL

@missylinda  Oh Lorraine, 409 is on my playlist too. I always wanted a 409 after I heard the song but settled for a 51 Indian Chief.    I also used to wake up the kids with She Caught the Katy by The Blues Brothers played at alarm clock levels.  It was effective and provided a sense of music appreciation.  They still talk about it.  Marg

@margprodue deuce coupe, shut down, my ss396, GTO, hey little cobra, little old lady from Pasadena, I lived  the life on the streets during my teenage years.  Pay a buck get into the drag strip, race anybody that showed, year round.  I campaigned a 65 chevelle, model 300 2 door post, bare bones.  Motor was a vette 365 horse 327 with M20 Muncie.  Later went to a built 396, but could never get it dialed in.  Then I met my wife and my street days were over. If you know Trish White, she ran a 65 falcon with both small and big block .  Jennifer Conolly is about to get a new vette.  Asked her if she needed a chauffeur LOL.

@missylinda Hey Lorraine, More good tunes and I've got a lot of them on my playlist too.  Glad that I didn't meet you on the midwest streets with my green 56 chevy, you would have left me in your dust.  After the cops stopped me for the 3rd time I quit and got to be a good mechanic.  I just put our his and hers 74 vettes into the auction service after my wife said that she thought that it was becoming too much car for her and she wouldn't drive it anymore (and the same with our 79 sportys).  I do think about back in the day times and would love to return to thunder road but arthritis and slower reflexes have somehow invaded my 27 ?? (lol)  year old body. Anyway, it's been a good run.  BTY, I see that you are a Texas Gal.  In 1970 I was stationed at San Antonio and had my first taste of a Texas Summer.  it seems strange to me as I write this that in 30 min. I'll be starting up the snow plow and getting ready for another round of snow and below zero. My need for excitement now is just Mario Kart with grandkids (who always wax me) and flying gliders and ultralights.  Don't lose your pink slip....Marg

Male me is a broken down old rocker, especially 60's guitar instrumental bands like the Ventures ans the Shadows from the UK with my then and still guitar god Hank Marvin on lead guitar, plying the first ever Fender Stratocaster to me it to the UK.

Other 60's artist like Roy Orbison, Del Shannon  Neil Diamond and Johhny Rivers were a part of my youth. Australian groups like the Little River Band are also regulars when I'm out in my car.

The later female me, (with a lot of help from a dear Canadian female friend), got me into Diana Krall, and Richard Samuels.

The singing and songwriting genius of Carole King has been with "both of me": for a very long time

Anyone of either gender who can not only write their own songs, but sing them as well will always have a special place on my my "music phone" aka a 2nd hand I phone 6. dont need or want anything later than that.

Happy dressing and listening,

Caty.

@ryanpaul Thank you Caty. I remember many of those bands and was also big on guitar fronted bands in my youth. I agree with you about singer song writers. I'd add Leonard Cohen to your list.

Speaking of singer song writers, do any of you know any who write songs about cross dressing or being trans? I only randomly come across the odd song.

@ryanpaul  I also am into writers.  You are spot on, “ Tapestry”is art from “ I feel the earth move” to “ far away”.    The 1960s became the decade where rock/ pop actually said something.

Well.., wash my mouth out with...... A good Australian red....

How did I ever forget to include the late Judith Durham of the 60's and 70's Seekers and later her solo albums

"The voice of an angel"

I am also very remiss, (a good Aussie chardonnay will do this time), of not including Linda Ronstadt, as good as they were, not so much for her early rock and roll days, but more so,

Doing her 30's and 40's torch songs backed by Nelson Riddle and orchestra

Not just the songs, but especially the classic feminine costumes.

Back in my work travel days, I had most of these on cassette and would play them on my "walkman/radio" as I did Caty's make up in my hotel room.

Sadly back then I never had the courage to go outside the room and find a man to dance away the night to these lovely old ballads. (The fact I cant dance for beans is another MAJOR... factor LOL)

Caty.

PS Frustrated my poor old ex no end. Above the waist with a guitar around my neck, reasonable rhythm. Below that... forget it...

Having been musical since very early age, Ian has been almost exclusively into complex music since the teen years - mostly prog, increasingly obscure, and more recently the jazzier side of it.  For sure, there isn't much for any woman in that genre! ... although there are still some highlights for Fiona, one album in particular we both like is not just female-led, but actually very dancy.  We seem to meet fairly well on retro-styled, song-oriented prog too.  But generally Ian needs more musical nourishment out of what we listen to than 'ordinary' songs can provide. For some reason though, this song surfaced yesterday ... remembering a brief snippet of it from early on in the movie 'Twister'.  Checking the lyrics and watching the video for the first time, we may have found our theme song!

I've never really been all that much into music. As a teen in the 1970s I was indifferent to the chat I heard from my school friends about the likes of David Bowie and Kate Bush. Nowadays I have a greater appreciation those pop classics of my youth, and I also enjoy listening to showtunes.

About 15 years ago, during my last really big crossdressing period, I made myself a playlist on my iPod. The list was entirely comprised of female singers, because I felt a need to identify with the vocal femininity of the performances.

It's been years since my last en femme outings to the local scene pubs, but I happily danced for ages to just about anything they played.

This is interesting. I am an audiophile and builT my system around a focus on female vocalists. I love pure sounds like Judy Collins, Haley Westerna, Celtic Women, Sarah Brightman, among many, many others. I had never before associated my love of The female voice wiTh my fem side. When dressed and ouT dancing I truly love dancing to stuff like Shania Twain "I feel like a woman!... LeT's go girls!

Voice is important to me. I'm fascinated by accents in general.

One of the songs on my playlist was Torn by Natalie Imbruglia. There was a karaoke at one of the pubs I went to in Newcastle's Pink Triangle, so I learned Torn off by heart to sing. I had to learn it, because without my glasses everything's a blur! The following month (my nights out were monthly), I did Abba's Money Money Money, and the month after that was Madonna's La Isla Bonita.

Mind you, I didn't sing them very well!

I have been enjoying crossdresser cruises which we label "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", and we do. I went so far as to let my hair down at a tiki bar on the beach, where there was a pole inviting me to dance! Now try to erase that ugly thought from your mind. I'm sure it never happened. It was the tequila that made me think so.

I've been obsessive about music all my life. I was in two different audition choirs (jazz and acapella) my junior and senior years of high school, lettered in music, but just one at university, played in a touring band in the 90s, and I've seen about a million live shows. My tastes are all over the place, to such an extent that it's probably easier to say what I don't like (modern country, dancehall reggae), but most of the time I listen to indie, shoegaze, jazz, rock, and classical. I've always loved women artists, so I can't say that has anything to do with femme me, but it's pretty hard to tease apart I think. Would I love the Barbie soundtrack this much if I hadn't embraced my femme side? I just don't know!

Guess I never really thought about it. But yes I do listen to different bands when I am dressed up. Same genres (classic rock) just differnt bands, a lot softer and more gentle songs.

Basically the same music when I'm in 'guy mode'....

Metal, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, 80's pop, EDM, Techno, Trance...

I will say I dance a lot more...only when I have the house to myself dressed up in a wig, make up, lingerie and I've been drinking hard liquor.....  🙂

Modern stuff like Taylor Swift doesn't do it for me.

I think my taste in music may shift slightly toward softer, more sentimental music but for the most part remains unchanged.  However, I do listen to many songs from a female perspective, I find a new or renewed appreciation for many songs.🎵

My name is taken from the song,  "Peggy Sue," sung by the late great Buddy Holly and released on the Coral record label in September 1957.

I was eleven y.o., when Buddy Holly released the song, "Peggy Sue."

At the time, two neighbor cis teenage girls were mentoring me in the finer points of being a girl.  Those were fun times.  I was using a female version of my male name, but one weekend, as I recall, we all three went to a party, and Holly's song was playing on the car radio, while en route to the party.  The two teen girls decided my name, at that point, should be Peggy Sue. Their reasoning was I looked far too pretty for a female version of a male name.  I wavered back and forth between the two names over the years, before finally settling on Peggy Sue several years ago.

I am happy with the choice, as it is a lasting tribute to Holly, who was a music genius and destined to achieve far greater things, had he not died at such a young age in an aviation disaster.

And yes, the song is driven and passionate, so typical of Holly.

At the first Desert CrossRoads (2021?) on the party bus (I was back by the stripper pole...) when "Man, I feel like a woman!" came over the sound system, everyone on the bus (including the driver, he was dancing in his seat) was singing every word and dancing in the aisles... INCLUDING the GG wives!

My music taste is a bit on the softer side anyway and I just love female singers.   One thing I have done more and more lately is listen to female oriented podcasts.  It helps me keep up on current fashion trends and gives me great wardrobe ideas.   Right now, I'm working toward developing a nice, versatile capsule wardrobe... The podcasts also help me understand what it is really like to be a woman and how to deal with female issues.

The biggest thing for me is that there are no absolutes.  What is right for one person is not necessarily right for others. I need to take the information I get and see how it fits me and my particular situation.  Sometimes it is discarded but other times it can be adapted or taken in a new direction that works perfectly.   My biggest thing is to blend in as a woman.  As a result, I tend to not do things that make me stand out either relative to my appearance or demeanor.   I would describe my style as somewhat basic since it meets my needs and desires and my female personality as mild.
