I have always loved music. It has been a preoccupation of mine since I was little. I was a bit of a snob in my youth and I noticed I had a soft spot for pop songs that my music snob friends loved to deride. 😉
Later, I became a convert to Spotify despite their pathetic compensation to musicians. Having enjoyed playing DJ and making mix tapes, I began making playlists of all my favourite music.
My playlists were a blend of what my two spirits liked. When I began having girls nights though, I found the music I played was not on the money, so Lea began making her own playlists, just for the girls.
I’m curious if other girls have a defined musical taste, separate from what your guy part might like? For me it may be a hold over from being a snob. I wouldn’t have been caught dead listening to, let alone enjoying, Donna Summers as a guy. 😃
I never made a distinction. I listened to whatever I wanted regardless of how I was presenting. That was then. Girl brain was destined to win the contest. If anything, I listen to a wider variety of music now than before transitioning.

Hi Lea, My music is and was always the same. What has changed is the ability to hear it almost anytime and anywhere that I am. Coming back from a party at midnight or maybe at breakfast, I can listen to the Yardbirds Heart Full Of Soul at full volume and follow it with a softer Judy Collins Both Sides Now or perhaps switch to Joan Jet Light Of Day etc. I guess the real change in my music would be the wealth of ways to hear what I want when I want and how I want. Being an intersex person or wearing an evening gown or lumberjack boots never made any difference. I hope that this makes some sense. Marg
Male me is a broken down old rocker, especially 60's guitar instrumental bands like the Ventures ans the Shadows from the UK with my then and still guitar god Hank Marvin on lead guitar, plying the first ever Fender Stratocaster to me it to the UK.
Other 60's artist like Roy Orbison, Del Shannon Neil Diamond and Johhny Rivers were a part of my youth. Australian groups like the Little River Band are also regulars when I'm out in my car.
The later female me, (with a lot of help from a dear Canadian female friend), got me into Diana Krall, and Richard Samuels.
The singing and songwriting genius of Carole King has been with "both of me": for a very long time
Anyone of either gender who can not only write their own songs, but sing them as well will always have a special place on my my "music phone" aka a 2nd hand I phone 6. dont need or want anything later than that.
Happy dressing and listening,
Caty.
Having been musical since very early age, Ian has been almost exclusively into complex music since the teen years - mostly prog, increasingly obscure, and more recently the jazzier side of it. For sure, there isn't much for any woman in that genre! ... although there are still some highlights for Fiona, one album in particular we both like is not just female-led, but actually very dancy. We seem to meet fairly well on retro-styled, song-oriented prog too. But generally Ian needs more musical nourishment out of what we listen to than 'ordinary' songs can provide. For some reason though, this song surfaced yesterday ... remembering a brief snippet of it from early on in the movie 'Twister'. Checking the lyrics and watching the video for the first time, we may have found our theme song!
I've never really been all that much into music. As a teen in the 1970s I was indifferent to the chat I heard from my school friends about the likes of David Bowie and Kate Bush. Nowadays I have a greater appreciation those pop classics of my youth, and I also enjoy listening to showtunes.
About 15 years ago, during my last really big crossdressing period, I made myself a playlist on my iPod. The list was entirely comprised of female singers, because I felt a need to identify with the vocal femininity of the performances.
It's been years since my last en femme outings to the local scene pubs, but I happily danced for ages to just about anything they played.
I've been obsessive about music all my life. I was in two different audition choirs (jazz and acapella) my junior and senior years of high school, lettered in music, but just one at university, played in a touring band in the 90s, and I've seen about a million live shows. My tastes are all over the place, to such an extent that it's probably easier to say what I don't like (modern country, dancehall reggae), but most of the time I listen to indie, shoegaze, jazz, rock, and classical. I've always loved women artists, so I can't say that has anything to do with femme me, but it's pretty hard to tease apart I think. Would I love the Barbie soundtrack this much if I hadn't embraced my femme side? I just don't know!
In girly mode, its dance music all the way. I love the beat, the energy and it matches with how I feel all dressed up! I only listen to female vocalists when I'm Melissa!
Guess I never really thought about it. But yes I do listen to different bands when I am dressed up. Same genres (classic rock) just differnt bands, a lot softer and more gentle songs.
Basically the same music when I'm in 'guy mode'....
Metal, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, 80's pop, EDM, Techno, Trance...
I will say I dance a lot more...only when I have the house to myself dressed up in a wig, make up, lingerie and I've been drinking hard liquor..... 🙂
Modern stuff like Taylor Swift doesn't do it for me.
I think my taste in music may shift slightly toward softer, more sentimental music but for the most part remains unchanged. However, I do listen to many songs from a female perspective, I find a new or renewed appreciation for many songs.🎵
My name is taken from the song, "Peggy Sue," sung by the late great Buddy Holly and released on the Coral record label in September 1957.
At the first Desert CrossRoads (2021?) on the party bus (I was back by the stripper pole...) when "Man, I feel like a woman!" came over the sound system, everyone on the bus (including the driver, he was dancing in his seat) was singing every word and dancing in the aisles... INCLUDING the GG wives!
My music taste is a bit on the softer side anyway and I just love female singers. One thing I have done more and more lately is listen to female oriented podcasts. It helps me keep up on current fashion trends and gives me great wardrobe ideas. Right now, I'm working toward developing a nice, versatile capsule wardrobe... The podcasts also help me understand what it is really like to be a woman and how to deal with female issues.
The biggest thing for me is that there are no absolutes. What is right for one person is not necessarily right for others. I need to take the information I get and see how it fits me and my particular situation. Sometimes it is discarded but other times it can be adapted or taken in a new direction that works perfectly. My biggest thing is to blend in as a woman. As a result, I tend to not do things that make me stand out either relative to my appearance or demeanor. I would describe my style as somewhat basic since it meets my needs and desires and my female personality as mild.
