I was wondering if there is a preference for certain types of drinks by us girls, and if some drinks can be considered more girlie than others.  Do you prefer for instance

water or juice

tea or coffee

wine or beer

white wine or red wine

cocktails or spirits

or indeed something or anything else.

Please select below.  You can choose as many as you like.  It would be interesting if you could also drop a note being more specific - sparkly or flat water, what type of juice, if you have a preferred type of wine, or spirit or cocktail etc.

Personally, I drink water, tea and coffee, white wine (Chardonnay or Chablis) and refreshing summer cocktails like mastic/seven up.  How about you ladies?

Hugs Christine

PS my apologies if this has been covered by other polls previously

@christineth my drink of choice is beer , good scotch, or a well aged rum.  When out in girlie mode I  am white wine.

@geniv_cd my girlfriends shame me into not having a bottle of beer when out, way to unladylike. If a beer was a share of stock, I would be the largest single stockholder in Budweiser.

I put water as it's my first choice. A good sweet tea on occasion ( being a Southern girl it's a must! ).

Occasional beer or mixed drink. I'm really not much of a consumer of adult beverages.

Interesting side note. Mixed drinks were the product of prohibition. The bathtub gin and basically badly produced alcohol of the Roaring Twenty's. Fruit juice and soft drinks were mixed in to hide the bad liquor taste!

WaLa  a whole new industry was born!

Since going on HRT, I drink less alcohol.  Beer doesn't taste as good but I still have one now and then.  I still love red wine, good bourbon and single-malt scotch.

Prefer sparkling water and juice to any kind of soda pop.

Coffee is in my blood.

@lizk Liz, that is interesting about the HRT and alcohol.  Do you drink less because alcohol is incompatible with the H’s or because you simply feel less attracted to alcohol or is it just a personal preference?  Or something else?  Hugs Christine

Hey Christine.  It's not incompatibility.  It's just my baseline.  Before going on HRT, I medicated with alcohol to 'manage' my gender dysphoria.  I drank a lot.  It's not a good solution!

@lizk no indeed, not a good solution even though I like the turn of phrase: “ I medicated with alcohol..”.  I am pleased for you that you managed to control the amount of drinking.

And thanks for the clarification regarding the alcohol/HRT compatibility.

I hope the HR therapy is going well.  Hugs Christine.

To paraphrase “drinking alcohol for medicinal purposes” usually doesn’t bode well in the long run.. I can’t imagine alcohol/HRT being compatible…

@leonara Leonara, it was meant in fun and certainly not a recommendation - alcohol is certainly a dangerous drug and the consequences of abuse can be very serious indeed.  And self medication, whether with alcohol or anything else is also something that should be avoided.  I apologise if any of the conversation has caused upset.

@christineth  I believe we enjoy the same wine as the origin grape is the same.

Chablis is a dry white wine made from the Chardonnay grape in northern Burgundy, France. It can come in four broad quality levels from Chablis Grand Cru at the top, through to Chablis Premier Cru, standard Chablis and Petit Chablis at the lower tier. All are dry white wines made from Chardonnay.

Cheers!

Hi Christine,

Voted for coffee.

Not a big drinker, and pop (soda) has to much sugar.

Unfortunately, have to many cinnamon rolls with the coffee.

What's a girl to do?

Hugs,

@christineth I mostly just drink juice and water. Occasionally, I drink tea, but never really got into hot drinks.

Never drank beer - nasty stuff.

Never drank coffee - even nastier stuff.

Had to stop alcohol in general because of medications, but I have been known to drink a glass of wine before that.

On the all too rare occasions I go out to bars en femme, my drinks are white wine, gin & tonic, or a more exotic cocktail like tequila sunrise or pina colada.

Not all in the same glass.

Over two years ago now, I gave up alcohol after finding some dodgy liver enzyme levels (that have now resolved themselves). I don't miss it anymore and mostly drink tea and black coffee.

It's fortunate I don't drink really, as I'm not sure I'd want to go into a bar while dressed; too many drunks and weirdos in them (not counting myself amongst the weirdos, of course 🙂 ).

Sometimes though, I do imagine myself—only at a lunchtime—going into a pub and having a ladylike small glass of wine. Not going to happen though, one alcoholic drink and the slope would turn very slippery.

Back in the day, when I went out to “socials” monthly, (when I presented as semi-good-looking), my policy was to never drink alcohol. Think of it: A gay bar filled with crossdressers mostly, putting on their best get-ups. Dancing with each other, laughing, socializing and buying rounds. And many of them looking pretty darn cute too. Now Grace and her male counterpart are not the most serious of drinkers. Two beers and she’s falling asleep and starting to make ditzy comments. But in the heat of the moment we all know our stamina and stupidity increases. We’re drinking a bit more than usual and we’re all there playing the role of pretty girls. Well, it doesn’t take much and soon we’re kissing other crossdressers. (And that would happen amongst the girls there.) Then we’re hugging and kissing…yeah, slippery slope indeed Becca…LOL!

I’ll have an iced tea🥰

My favourite drink is tea which will come as no surprise being English. Tea taken with friends in a lovely little tea shop in dainty cups with sandwiches and cake is a real treat.

As for alcohol, I am not a drinker having all but given up but will treat myself to the occasional G&T.

@ab123 Being half English I love a nice cup of tea too.  One thing I have resisted since coming to live in Europe is the switch to continental brands of tea - the local British shop does a roaring trade in Yorkshire tea!  Hugs Christine

@christineth I remember going to a 5* hotel in Paris for an afternoon tea. It was a splendid hotel, pianist playing light tunes, Chandeliers, linen table cloths, lovely pastries and sandwiches, china tea service with tags to T bags hanging out of the tea pots! Eeeuuu!! sacreu bleu!! One would expect a selection of leaf teas at such a grand venue.

@christineth I once went to a Toastmasters meeting and one of the members, (from England), gave a speech about how to make a perfect cup of tea. It was a serious speech but ended up being a humorous one because it was so basic. He tried his best to make it more than it was -but in the end it came down to “steep it for 4 minutes. No more and no less.”

Okay. Pretty sure that anyone can do that. Not to take anything away from you Brits but it’s not brain surgery. I love a cup of tea anytime and I even let it steep past 4 minutes. Delicious!🤣

”only the Brits know how to make a good cup of tea.” Please Christine, be serious girl! Don’t make me come over there with my Lipton!🤣

@gracepal Grace, its not as straight forward as you think.  Should the cup/pot be preheated, what is the ratio of tea leaves to water, how hot should the water be, how long should the tea brew, should you use tea leaves or tea bags, which particular blend of tea is best.  Then should you add, milk or lemon, sugar, honey, whiskey or nothing extra, if milk should that be preheated and most importantly, should the milk be added first or second?

Finally, should you eat something with the tea, if biscuits, should they be dunked or not.

Oh and I forgot, should it be served in a mug or cup, should it be porcelain or something else, and what temperature should it be when you drink it.

So many questions and variations…

Hugs Christine

One reason why I would struggle to pass is that my cover would be blown if I walked into a bar and ordered a pint of beer (my usual drink of choice on a night out in male mode). I dunno what is like elsewhere but in the UK it is still not considered 'Lady Like' for women to drink pints. Then again I have come across some women who could drink a lot of guys under the table.

Hi. I like a very cold sparkling water and like to try different brands.  Some have more "bite" than others.   As for a girlie drink.  Root Beer with vanilla ice cream is my girlie drink.

@delaware I agree sparkly water can be very refreshing.  In Belgium we are spoiled with the range of bottled waters that are available.  On the other hand, root beer?  I don’t understand root beer.  Nor for that matter do I understand Irn Bru (yes that is the correct spelling) - maybe some of our Scottish girlfriends could help with that one.  Hugs Christine

@christineth      Hi. oh, well here in the US root beer isn't a ....beer.....but a kind of soda pop.  I guess it's called that because when you pour it into a glass there's a frothy "head" like a glass of beer.  Ha. The thought of beer and ice cream ......and the taste (giggles!!!!!).  Heart karley

Tea,  brewed in a pot. Milk in the cup first.

Ale... Not beer. Proper real ale.

Vodka.

How I dress/present makes no difference to my drinking preferences.

This girl has been a serious (Australian) wine buyer, "cellarer" and drinker for half a century.

So my drink when out would be a good Aussie Cabernet or Shiraz. Whites? Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Gris etc etc. We also have excellent Verdeho's, especially from Western Australia.

Place of consumption??. Oh how, (in Caty mode)  I would Love!!! to take one of the above to my long standing favorite Melbourne "BYO". "Yes Santa Claus we still have that tradition here in OZ". Its dying off, but there are still places that know and cater for "Serious Winos"like myself

"Caty mode" is but a dream. I've known the owners for over 20 years..

Happy imbibing and dressing

Caty (hic!)

PS I also drink zero alcohol beer

I'm not much of an alcoholic drinker at all. I will occasionally take less than 1 oz of a chocholate liqueur for a toast, or some concord grape wine for religious purposes.

I don't like the feeling of even a little bit of alcohol in my system, and I don't like when some people have a little to much to drink, so most often I avoid the bar scenes. Some of my friends go out to drink after our support meetings, but at best I'll order some wine and leave half of it over. I'm not a night owl, usually have to be up and out early the next day, and from where they go it's an hour home, so I'm very unlikely to go out, let alone get something if I do go out. I'm the designated driver of one.

Even when I have been on cruises with my brother or at Keystone, where I don't have to drive, I will avoid alcohol. I might get one drink a year, and it's usually wine.

I had a bad experience at 10 or 11 with tea (finding the taste disgusting), and have no desire to do that again, so tea is out. And although I always loved the smell of coffee, the very few times I drank some, it left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth, something that isn't fixed by adding a sweetener, so coffee is out too.

My drink of choice is usually a diet coke or diet Dr. Pepper.

@alison-anderson i have lots of friends who don’t drink at all and i have the impression that this is becoming increasingly the social norm. I have been watching my sugar intake the last few months and on the advice of my dietician I don’t drink sugared drinks any more. But not even diet versions as, the dietician told me that these maintain the body’s want for sweetness (not sure how true this is, but it sounds logical) and I’ve lost 15 kilos.  Hugs Christine

@christineth I've also been watching sugar, but for a very different reason. I had cancer in the duodenum, the very top of the intestine. I had surgery 18 months ago to remove it. They also removed part of the pancreas, the gall bladder, and part of the stomach. I've lost 50 lbs (about 23 kilos), and while not diabetic, have been monitoring my blood sugar.

The funny thing is, not only do I have to be careful with too much sugar, I also have to be careful with not enough. After an exercise class, my blood sugar can drop to dangerous levels (with no or few symptoms), even when I try to take care of it by having a protein bar before, so that I need to get it up quickly. And if I have to take some kind of steroid, my blood sugar can go really high with no change in my diet. (Having a bad reaction to the chemo last year, I was on steroids for 6 weeks to build things up. Having had eye surgery 2 1/2 weels ago, even the eye drops with steroids for the swelling is making my blood sugar wacky.)

@christineth The diet coke, not the coke zero. I've lost my taste for regular coke (too sweet) years ago, and the coke zero tastes too much like regular coke. Not to mention, when I started, there was no such thing as coke zero.
