Hey

what does everyone prefer getting a feminine haircut and style it or wearing a wig.
personally I prefer wearing a wig , more variety ( but I do have longer hair)

@abby24

Hi, Abigail. A serendipitous topic if ever there was one. I've tried a few wigs recently, the last but one being the best, in my opinion but I just cannot be doing with them! Can't get them to sit right, can't style it to my satisfaction and, despite nailing it to my head, it slips about like a slippy-about thing.

No, I've said before, my own hair was at least 40cm long until I got it cut a couple of years ago. That was during my longest denial trip and now, of course, when I could really do something with it, it's gone! 🙄.

However, it'll grow back and it's already long enough for some styling, as can be seen in my latest profile pic, thanks to the magic of Tracey Galligan, who has already worked her wizardry on a few of our members.

I get that wigs offer instant transformation and, as Melodee says, can be bought without the need of a second mortgage and can match different outfits but, as an unreconstituted hippy, I love the wind blowing through my hair.

Thanks for posting this topic.

Allie x

@abby24 I like the variety of looks I can get from different wigs. I always felt having pretty hair completed my femme look. Wigs have always done that for me.

@abby24 I'm strictly on wigs for the time being.   One of these days, I will let my hair grow out.  I would love to have hair just past my shoulders and with nice waves!  I've started once or twice but when I get to that in-between stage, I have caved so far and got it cut.   Maybe next time....

@abby24 I voted wig but that's only because I don't have enough hair left to do much with it sadly. I'm not so vain (or rich) that I would go for transplants or anything but I would love to get it styled for real if I could.

@abby24 That's very true, I have quite the collection of style options & I did learn that blonde suits me which I never would have thought without trying it out. So much so in fact that I recently went blonde for real! something I never would have done without the wig.

@sashabennett - Same here, I think I look better blonde, - pink; not so much 🙂 - but at least I didn't have to dye my hair to find out. Wigs are a good way to experiment.

@sienna106 As you can see in my one & only photo, a sort of peachy dusky pink actually worked for me. I guess it's just down to skin tone.

@sashabennett - Yes that shade does look better, mine looks like I've been dragged through a candy floss hedge backwards  🙂 🙂

@sienna106 A candy floss hedge sounds tasty at least 😆 Perhaps it's time for a new one. I see from your photo's that you tend towards the longer styles, maybe try something shorter? or even get your existing ones styled if you have a suitable hairdresser.

@sashabennett - I grew my hair long when I was 18, and made up my mind to keep it that way until I got to a certain age, which I did before I had it cut short. But a part of me does miss it, hence the longer style choice I guess, and as I get them from Amazon, I'm not exactly breaking the bank.

@sienna106 Mine was long until one particularly windy day on Blackpool seafront when I decided I had had enough of being blinded by it. It was then short short for decades, mostly as it was easier to manage under a crash helmet. Now the bike has gone & I like my shoulder length wig I am going to try growing it out again & giving it another go. Like I said above, there is something of an empty spot on top so I'll just have to see how it works out. Fingers crossed!

@sashabennett - Not only blinded but I always seemed to be fishing it out of the corner of my mouth.

Good luck growing it out  🙂

@abby24

I do have a good quality wig that I acquired about 10-15 years ago. It was just over shoulder length and I chose it to be close to my natural hair colour. I used it when I had short hair and was still very much in the closet. But I did find it difficult to keep it properly in position and if I wore it for a long time I found it got quite hot and sweaty.

Then since the start of Covid I started allowing my hair to grow out and it is now the length you can see in my profile picture. I get it cut and styled (though there isn't actually much style to it - it is mainly straight with a slight wave) at a good hairdresser. I love the feel of the wind in it and the way it can tickle the back of my neck and the top of my back.

However ... it does take a lot of maintenance. I have to wash it every other day; it obscures my vision if I lean over to do a job (OK, I know, I can and do tie it back if I really need to); it catches in my mouth when I eat and sticks there if I am wearing lipstick; it comes out when I brush my hair and leaves me wondering how much is left on my head.

But all said and done I love my own hair, which is why I voted "Feminine haircut' in the poll.

@abby24

i selected wigs. It took me a year to grow my own hair out. It looked more like a cheap wig than my real hair! Lol

Really, color cut and styling varieties gives wigs a big advantage.

@abby24 when I was younger, I used to get my hair permed, and loved it, I think curls on girls is so feminine, as I got older, I shaved my head “man thing” as I was in denial about my feminine side, but I am now growing my hair out, and hopefully will be able to be able to put it up, as I love elegant updos. If that doesn’t work I will definitely have to buy wig. Hugs Cynthia 💋💋👩

@abby24 Hi my dear

I would say , in my own case , the wig 100/100%

It 's all depends on my case of every case in particular, besides the advantages of change the style only with change of wig, I cannot use long hair, one reason because of my wife and family, and second because of my job.

Particularly the wig give me the flexibility of if I could going out ( not in my country obviously) I can switch from Odeth to my male mode easily.

If I was in another country and If I would get a job where work as a female clothes wasn't a problem and the job were in office and If my family accepted me in that way, probably I would pick use my long hair !!!!

Maybe in another multiverse,not in this one.!!!

@abby24 prefer? I prefer to have real hair but someone didn’t get the memo. So it’s wigs for me which is ok as I can change my style to match my mood instantly. Like everything, they do have their downfalls. After all these years wearing wigs, I have finally found the three styles that are me. All the other wigs have gone to the trash can never to be seen again.

@abby24 I have a hairstylist, I love every time that I visit her. The whole experience of getting ready to go to the salon, being pampered and styled is the best.

@abby24 I'm another girl with a paucity of her own natural coverage.  My hairline always was high and has been receding ever further up my temples since my early 20s, now the bit left in the middle and on top is noticeably thinning too 🙁   So, I keep it really short with clippers and it's a wig all the way for me.  Since trying several styles and colours at a makeover back in June, I have bought three of the one that suited me perfectly, which should keep me going for a while.

@abby24 I have my own hair, but could never grow it as long as I'd prefer - plus the maintenance of long hair is something I don't need on my to-do list. lol

I wear wigs, and while they're all the exact same cut/style, I have them in 3 colors which lets me match my outfit or my mood best. (and they're a whopping $20@ so easy on the budget)

My own hair? I think not. It would take a hairdresser with god-like skills to give my locks a feminine style. Firstly, they'd have to fill in all the gaps on the top and front then they'd have to stop what I have being wavy to the point of being perm-like and finally, would have to try to make it all the same colour and not the shades of black, brown, grey and white I already have (where there is any).

I have shaved my head for at least thirty years and when I tried to grow it a few weeks ago, I could see what a mess it was going to be so I shaved it off again.

My only sop to my own hair now is that I use an electric razor instead of a wet one, because it leaves a very short stubble that stops—velcro-like—my wigs moving about.

I have six wigs of varying styles and colours and I wear them as the mood takes me; can't do that with real hair.

If I still had the good hair I had in my 20s I would no doubt style it in a feminine fashion. My hair - what remains -  is now salt and peppery and male pattern baldness has largely settled in, especially in the back. If I were to grow it now it would be thin and uneven, resembling more closely an aging hippie rather than the mature  woman I aspire to present.

However, I am undaunted and have been enjoying wigs. I can change up the color and style at will, and there is a lot to be said for that. At present I have two wigs of decent quality as I desire as natural and believable a look in that area as I can. I wear them interchangeably, usually dependent upon what outfit I am wearing at the time or where I am going. No doubt there are more in my future. As the legendary Sam Malone ("Cheers") said "Good looks can open doors, good hair knocks them right off their hinges"! I choose to follow that philosophy, and if I no longer have the natural ability a good wig is a necessary accessory for me.

My wife won't allow me to have wigs, but she will allow me to have my hair cut in a female style.

I can't see the logic of this, but it's one of the quirks my wife has with my dressing. I have female hair. I dress female as often as I like. I'm fully out in the open, yet I can't have wigs, a girls name, nor false nails.

Up to about 10-12 years ago it was natural hair that I could grow out to mid length without a lot of somewhat strange looks. As I have gotten older, I keep my natural hair short and now have 4 different wigs of different styles and colors.
it allows me to mix and chance styles?

For me it's a wig every time. I can't imagine the hassle of attempting to style my own hair, and I'm sure I'd get a lot of ribbing in my drab life with long hair. Plus it's just easy to change styles at will xx.

I wear wigs but would prefer to use my natural hair, if I had started when I was younger I probably would have tried natural hair more. my hair is still curly but much thinner than when I was younger.

I still have my own hair which I have worn long for over 30 years now. Unfortunately it is getting a bit thin and every time I brush it I wonder at the amount of it that remains in the brush! Oh well 🙁

Thus, I wear wigs! The advantage is that it's possible to have a variety of looks and colours. I do go wigless from time to time which is nice, although I think that were I going out en femme I would be choosing a wig.

Since I'm only a few years off 80 and as good as bald as abadgers..... posterior, its wigs for me when ever I dress. Even when I did have hair, I would not have been able to grow it. Business and "home pressure" would have seen to that.

A wig. My own hair is getting thin at the crown. I had long hair in my 20s and 30s which took a lot of looking after and I had a good head of hair then.

Besides that I love being able to choose colour and style to match my outfit and makeup so a wig it is.

When I get fully dolled up I wear one of my 2 wigs. One is shoulder length, the other is a bob style. They are both a salt and pepper color of some type. I love the look when I wear them, the only downside is that it does get hot wearing them. Most of the time when I dress it is for short periods of time (a couple hours) so I don't go full make up or wear a wig. As I only dress at home I' okay with that. I'm letting my hair grow out but do have some thinning on the front and top but do like the way it feels brushing against my neck and covering my ears. As to thinning on top I see a number of older GG's who have thinning hair so I wouldn't be too concerned with that. I would guess that part of that is from the hair treatments they got when younger.

Also it would be difficult to have a feminine cut and remain partially closeted. I think my preferred style would be shoulder length with a ponytail and on occasion have it braided. I've done both of those in the past and enjoyed it.

XOXO
Suzanne

It’s wigs for me.
Like a lot of others, my own hair is getting thin on the top, so it’s not a choice really.

Even if it was a choice, I’ve never really grown my hair long so I doubt I’d want to now.

Also, wigs give you an instant change of look and style, which is great
