Great list but I do think Gwen Stephani should get an honorable mention based of her work with no doubt, but more so for songs like “rich girl”. She has always been super sexy and her career bounces between pop and rock but she does has quite a resume imo.
Debbie Harry singing almost anything; Denis Denis, Heart of Glass, French Kissing in the USA. I used to try and sing and dance like her.
What about Ann Wilson of Heart? She did an excellent job on every song Heart put out over the years.
From the list above, I picked Debbie Harry. Nothing against Ms. Swift, Madonna, or Beyonce, but they don't scream "rock" to me...
I can't believe no one else brought up Lzzy Hale, from Halestorm! Jeez, you want to talk about sexy as hell AND an amazing rock singer. You have to check her out...
And let's not forget Ann Wilson. For my money, probably the best woman to ever front a rock band.
She doesn’t sing anymore but in the seventies, Linda Ronstadt was about the best female singer in rock and roll.
It's too bad there wasn't a option for "Other" and write in your own candidate with this question. My first few choices other than those listed would be:
- Ann Wilson from Heart
- Annie Lenox of Eurythmics
- Cher
If this question is opened ended to "all time", from the '60s to today, then you would have to include:
- Grace Slick
- Carly Simon
- Cindi Lauper
- Pat Benatar
and many countless others along with the many that have been mentioned throughout this thread.
I love Shania Twain, when she sings I feel like a woman, and she's stood there in that short skirt and boots, it makes me feel like i could be a woman too, if only i could look like her,
Hugs Rozalyn X 🤗
Etta James
Nina Simone
Neko Case
PJ Harvey
Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine
...just a few faves in need of mention.
What about Cher?! My goodness, would I not like to get into some of her outfits!
So many women of rock listed here, but my heart will always belong to Tina Turner. I am just sad I never saw her live with those legs that never, never quit.
None of the above. LOL. Tina Turner or Lisa Fischer for me.
Just to show how --- old --- I am, Merilee Rush. Of course, she's also maybe just slightly older now, but back in the day....
On a side note, I never saw pictures of this one particular group when they were originally popular but years later when I did, I discovered that Judith Durham of the Seekers (also back in the day) looked very similar to a girl I dated in college, so there's that.
Fun survey. What about Joan Jett or all of the ladies from the band The Warning.
Here’s a class act, Martha Davis and the Motels, 1983, Remember the Nights. It’s the eighties, she is beautiful and mysterious. The saxophone is smooth and rich. Google it. You won’t be sorry.
From the options offered I chose Chrissie Hynde...but i also LOVE Debbie Harry. Others that i might choose that are not listed are Pat Benatar, Ann Wilson, and Susanna Hoffs (shes more pop but oh my, she never ages!). So many great choices out there
