Hi ladies,

We're working through all the wonderful feedback y'all left on the member survey - Thank you!. One suggestion that came up a few times was to show a members location (city, state/province, country) on public photos, similar to how we do on the forum posts.

@cdh

I voted 'no' too. If posters want to add more info to their photos themselves then it's their choice.

@emmat I so agree. The world has no more leverage on me, but I know there are SO many others who cannot afford a "miss"-step...As you say, up to the poster to add location...

Thank you for all your passionate replies to this ladies!

To clarify - the proposal was to use information from your profile (as is done for forum posts today). So only information you have explicitly shared would be used.

We do not look at any exif data on photos or use other location tracking means like GPS on phone etc. In my view doing so is both invasive and very much not expected by anyone.

We've taken fairly great pains on Crossdresser Heaven to steer away from as much privacy invading tech as we can. You'll notice no Google Ads, Google Analytics, Facebook share buttons (with associated tracking pixels) and the like on the site.

@cdh if you are a member of CDH you can always check the profile of the photos owner for that info. No reason to allow non-members to see it. I vote No.

@cdh I voted yes to City/State, etc.

But, that has to be with the approval of that person. I know that many are still not ready to have certain details publicized and that's up to them. That concern reminds me of when my wife and I went to our first support group meeting. She was so afraid someone there would recognize us.

As I told her, if someone who knew us was there what would they do? Would they run to all our friends on Monday and say "guess who I saw at our crossdressers meeting."? I don't think so.

@cdh I answered show everything, but I would like to qualify that. I think that maybe give each person the option, some of us are very shy and don't want others to know and some of us are willing to share all.

@cdh I voted no.  I sometimes even hesitate to post public photos that will have too many personal objects in them from my residence.  Plus I live in a very small town and if my hometown was ever public, I’d be outed easily.  Thank you for asking.

Thank you for all your feedback ladies!

I'm going to close this thread.

Based on these conversations we aren't going to show location on public photos.

Please be aware that your location does show on forum posts. If you are concerned about this please either remove your city from your profile, or choose a location that is different from your own.

I voted no. The less members of the general public know about where I live the better. Especially with today's prevalent anti-trans sentiments.

I like the idea of allowing viewers seeing where gals are from-but ONLY if the person in the photo signs off on allowing for this. (Perhaps as an optional checkbox, when submitting the photo) I would never mind people knowing I live in Indiana. It is in my profile to a more exacting location, but I don't know anyone viewing photos would need to know more. My reasoning is that I have used mentions of Louisville and Indiana to be able to locate other members to go out with. But that is only my opinion, and Fiona has a very legitimate concern in today's world.

I say no since public photos too easily end up on the wider internet.

I voted no. I still don't understand why public photos are not ONLY available to registered members in the same way as some of the forums.

It doesn't make a difference either way.

The location is already shown on forum posts, it is only a mouse click to go from there to a poster's profile and thence to their public photographs—and the link is made.

If people don't want their location known then they don't enter it into their profile and so the photographs are location-free too.

I also voted no. If you are using the profile info for this, someone can find out if they choose by looking at other posts or possibly profile info.

If you are using exif information (location stored in photos) then definitely no; if I take a photo while away on vacation, I don't want people to know I am away (comparing the exif location with profile). This is the same as when they tell you not to post pictures of you on vacation on social media because others can tell you are not at home.

@alison-anderson Thanks hon, to be clear there are no plans to use exif data or other means of determining location other than what members have explicitly entered into their profile.

Definitely NO! As others have said, all of havea choice about how much detail to put in our profiles and anyone wanting to know more can just look them up.

That's how myself and a few other girls "discovered" each other and we now hav a lovely little private email group as a result

I'd invite any or all of the above, most of whom are CDH members to add their (Aud$ 0.20 cents worth).

(Worth quite a bit less due to "recent world events", probably not much more than Aud0.15)

I voted no, but I do not intentionally post pictures of me on the internet, dressed or drab.  I imagine there are enough pics of me "out there" that I have no knowledge of, why make matters worse.  Privacy has left the building.  Staci...

Unless you’re planning to change the name to Crossdresser’s Hell, I would vote a strong NO.  For those of us terminally closeted, I see no reward to the potential risk this could present.  Thank you for checking in prior to enacting the change.

I would say allow members to add location information only if they want to.  Have the location settings default to no location and then a member would have to manually change those settings.

Hi ladies, as most have expressed to this question, I am a very hard "No". I prefer not to have my "posts" from Topics not shown to the public as well. Recently I posted a topic " I guess I'm a housewife". This title must have been taken in a nefarious way. My wife said, " you are a good housewife" due to my house keeping & cooking skills. The topic was referring to sharing recipes with others here in the community. Well, looked up Cross dressers in (my city) and BOOM my topic was first to come up. Click, and there is my profile pic. The rub is, most of the ladies here (CDH community) live in metropolitan cities, I live in a small rual town (70,000) where the back ground of my profile pic is easily identifiable ( we host social events , somewhat upscale home here).

Personally, I like the option some of the ladies here have suggested, " give us the option of Private or public selection before we hit send for BOTH posts and pictures.

Thank you for listening & thank you Vanessa for all you do. Luv's Kathi Pride Heart

@caligirl Thank you dear, I'm sorry you had a rough experience like this.

Right now all forum posts are public, but we recently opened up Groups to allow lady members to join up to 2 groups. Groups are private to site members, and folks can create Groups which are private to only Group members as well.

Hopefully this will give folks who want a more private space as well.

@cdh And you are wonderful for opening up the groups for all of us. I have taken advantage by (of all groups) Girls can cook group that I didn't know existed. After I saw my public post, I did remove my city location, reluctantly. Because of all my girl friends that have shared their locations and experiences where they live. Part of Chat is " Chatting" about our location, educational and eye opening sometimes.

Thank you, again for listening and your enduring compassion to us girls. Luv's Kathi Pride Heart

It is getting (is already) that it is so easy to unintentionally find suxch posts as noted above. Let's not make it any easier. Unfortunately, the reality of it all is anything on the internet, including private info is only a few clicks and a hack or two away. Just look at 23andMe, all that private data may soon be sold to a source who can do with just about what they please. I am not saying or suggesting it would happen here, but face it, all the member's only data is only as secure as the mods/owner make it. I have little doubt a good hacker could get in and do what they wish.

The bottom line is do not post ANYTHING on the internet that you absolutely do not want others to see. Again, let's not make it any easier, but accept the fact we do have some exposure.

@jjandme A very good caution dear.

It reminds me of the old cartoon from back when the Internet was new 'On the Internet noone knows you're a dog'. Unfortunately that has been turned on it's head these days.

We do our best for security here, but even trillion dollar corporations with teams of the best engineers in the world have incidents.

For ladies looking for the most discretion I recommend a separate privacy focused browser (like Brave), a separate email address for your femme identity, a pseudonym (first and last name), not sharing your physical address, avoiding all large social network companies (youtube, facebook, etc.) with your femme personna and a good VPN (Proton, Mullvad, ivpn are a few good ones - avoid those that a Youtuber is getting paid to shill). We occasionally have issues with VPNs here on Crossdresser Heaven, but most areas should work well with these.

If you are looking for a paid plan on Crossdresser Heaven we do accept Paypal for annual plans, and I believe you can load Paypal with cash at CVS and other places.

Thank you for the bits of security info, it is very helpful to ludditites like myself. For many of us who greww up long before the inforamtion age struggle with just how invasive and pernicious the internet can be. We have enjoyed the upside and advantages, but do not truly understand the darkness it can be as well...but does anybody really???

@jjandme Yes, I feel so blessed to have grown up before social media.

I can't imagine having every moment of my life documented, and every mistake I made growing up preserved for all eternity.

@cdh reminds me of the Dr Seuss book "Oh the Places You'll Go"! 🙂
