Hi girls, a poll about eyebrows and an opportunity to discuss them. I'm sorry if you wanted to tick more than one box. I've set the poll to one option only.

I just don't know how to progress with my eyebrows. I think eyebrows are quite a defining feature of a woman's face. But mine are quite faint, sparse and seem to be all over the place. The idea of using my non existent artistry to shape them is a worrying option. I've tried those kits with plastic cut outs as a guide but no way do they seem to match where most of my eyebrows are! But that's probably me and my age. Added to which I feel a bit wary of going to a salon for a full on eyebrow make over since I really don't quite know what I want from it - although I guess I'd at least get advice on what was possible.

It'd be interesting to hear how you deal with your eyebrows, and / or how you arrived at a state of satisfaction with them.

@emmat mine are quite thick and I have to trim them regularly. To aid with thinning them, I use a brow gel to add shape. As I wear glasses virtually all the time a lot of that is hidden by the frames.

Hello Emma,

You may try treading, better it an Asian lady does it in my opinion. I then use a pencil close in color to my complexion. I hope it helps, best of luck.

I get mine tinted, tweezed, and waxed every three weeks at a salon.  They can do a far better job than I can.  It makes a big difference in my appearance.

I didn't know what I wanted either the first time I went.  The gal doing it suggested moderate shaping for an androgynous look.  That's what I went with.  I now get a more feminine shape because why not!

Thanks Liz, yes, an androgenous effect sounds good to start with. I will do a bit of googling.

@emmat My eyebrows are very fair, and quite patchy apart from the odd really thick hairs that seem to grow as fast as the weeds.  I've previously waxed my brows off entirely on one occasion and no-one noticed until I told them!  They also live behind glasses frames, but are more visible through the lenses of my new glasses, which magnify the rogue hairs far too efficiently!

I learned a formula to get a decent feminine-shaped eyebrow - how to decide on a series of points on/around your natural brow that you then join up.  I use a pencil inside those lines.  I ought to be waxing outside them, but TBH having to take my glasses off, I rely on a hand-held magnifying mirror so I don't think I have enough hands spare!

I am going to have my eyebrows tinted and waxed for the first time, in 10 days time.  The salon should be able to add some skin colour to compensate for where I'm patchy.  I also want to try full HD brows in future, to give me a more feminine shape outside of the boundaries of my natural brows.  Some of their before/after 'rescue' shots look amazing!

Same here. Thanks for this topic, Emma, as I've said, I'm a beginner with makeup and eyebrows are a real "What on earth can I do with these" dilemma for me.

I'll be trying some of the responses!

Well just an update to say I got my new eyebrows first thing this morning.  No photos yet because I also got laser on the dark hairs of my beard, so no shaving since yesterday and until tomorrow.  I've got away with them in drab mode all day, but now that I've put my hair and a dress on tonight, they're very pleasantly girly too 🙂  They need to fade a little to look more even, but that'll happen within a few days.

Hi Emma,

I usually trim them with a battery powered trimmer to keep them short and then tweeze them a bit. I had a girl at the salon wax and tint them. I liked it but getting to the salon a regular basis is hard. I also bought my own tint but have yet to try it.

@emmat I pluck and use eyebrow pencil to achieve a thin but non arched look. I only underdress outside the home but I do go as far as possible to the edge of the abyss without actually falling off.

@emmat To me, eyebrows are an important part of feminine appearance.   I trim my eyebrows regularly and I'm working toward getting a nice arched appearance.   When I wear makeup, I use a brow pencil to help with the shaping.

@emmat I found if you cut or divide your stench in half at the middle and extend the shape to where you your brow to begin, leaving the middle part open; then place end of the stench where you think your brow should end.

now with your brow pencil mark both upper and lower opening in the middle, use clear packaging tape to join the two sections of your stencil together on both sides. What you want is an extension of your outline.
Now you have a few options to own the beauty custom template or just fill in your brow and you probably end up with something rather nice.

Me personally I tend use my newly created template to shape my hair lines by tweezing the extra long hair in the middle and on the ends. Then use a 3 or 4 mm clipper guard to trim the whole brow line for a neat look.

Using my template starting from the bottom and lightly pencil in my brow and using the brush end of my pencil to lift the color into the bottom up the top of hair line and thin on the ends.

Now flip the template over and then do the other brow the same way.

when have finished, you will have something wonderful looking at you, in your mirror. Eyes fit for the woman of whom you have always wanted to become.

just my opinion, your makeup can be spot on with the liner, eyeshadow, mascara, blush and fantastic lipstick shade, but it’s eyebrows that makes your face pop.

You can purchase eyebrow templates at any big box makeup store. They usually come with three or four different sizes and types. So by extending them you have your own choice of sizes your own custom eyebrow kit that matches your face and mood.

It takes time to make this work for you. It’s the perfect thing when you have time for yourself and need a little self love. When the folks are gone for a few hours is the perfect time to work on the project. It’s also a great opportunity to use that led lighted magnificent 5X mirror you bought from Amazon. 😋

@theapat  Hey There and much appreciated thanks from fellow traveler.

If I was out full time I’d probably would copy Simone Biles, because she has such beautiful brows.

Quick question do you use lip liner to your eyebrows in colors that eyebrow liner isn’t always available in. I’m a redhead and I really love the ginger girls get their looks on like Christina Hendrix.

@bridgettjon Good Evening Bridgett,

I just googled a photo of Christina Hendricks with a "cks", right?

I love Christina's hair. I have a shag wig from Paula Young. Her name is 'Phoebe' and she has auburn highlights. I love her style and color and though blondes have more fun, my "auburn Phoebe" shag is my 'ole reliable' 'go-to' hair-do.

Now,  to answer your question. I went upstairs to check my eyebrow inventory. First,  I use a CoverGirl Easy Breezy Brow Fill and Define Pencil and Crayon 505 Rich Brown. Second, I 'comb' the brow with an ELF  WOW BROW spool-e in brunette. Lastly, I will dab an eyeliner size brush with "ChapStick" and attempt to move things in one direction and down.

Bridgett, you have me pondering about your experiment. I'll let you do the homework and you can get back to me, OK?

When I do a complete 'doll-up' in takes me close to 2 hours. When I just want to 'enfemme around the house', I'll do eyebrows, lipstick, eyeliner, and false lashes or mascara.

In order for me to consider venturing out, a 'full coverage foundation' is a must. After that, it's concealer, baking, contour, highlight, blush, setting spray, and perfume. It's about another 1/2 hour and sometimes I just can't go there.

Geez, even if my finger nails aren't painted, I'm hesitant to venture out. LOL It's a 'me-thing'.

Hey, did I get carried away?

Sincerely and With Love,

Thea

@emmat I was at a loss until I discovered the battery-powered eyebrow trimmer. I like really, really thin eyebrows, so I trim and trim to leave a line which is a guide for the eyebrow pencil. Ideally the pencil line is drawn in one pass. Salon does my fake lashes and eyeliner.

@smartina The battery powered eyebrow/nose hair trimmer is one of the best things to ever be invented as far as health and beauty implements go.

I used to pluck years ago, but now I just take that thing to them once a week and clean them up and keep them nice and trimmed. You can’t beat the convenience lol I’m right there with you on that.☺️

@smartina I’ve never used those just the little mechanical ones. Sometimes they get a little grabby when you’re trimming with them but overall, I think they work great for what they are and what they cost.

@emmat Hi Emma,  I have my salon wax and shape my brows every 4 week.  The woman who does mine knows all about my femme side.  So when I asked for a more girlie shape she was happy to oblige.  In between waxings I pluck all the wild hairs.  It's really made a huge difference.  Since I wear glasses no one really notices them.

@emmat Girls, I had the ugliest brows until I moved to Phoenix. There I was introduced to a gal (one of many) who "tatoo" basically new eyebrows on you. Your natural brow remains and the process recreates the new shape and dark fullness. It lasts about a year then a touch up may be necessary. LuvNHugs. TERI

@emmat   I do 2 things to improve my brow look.  First when I get my male haircut I have them trim my brows.  This taking the clippers and making them shorter.  I do this each haircut.  Second since Lorraine is not around my family,  I pluck to shape, but gradually, perhaps 3 or 4 hairs a week. Not a cover girl, but looks a lot better than the caterpillars  that were up there.

Great topic, Emma! To me, eyebrows can be one of the most defining differences between male and female, and I spend an inordinate time on mine. Believe me, it’s a struggle every time I do my makeup. Like you, I’ve tried those stencil cut-outs, but with limited success. Matter of fact, I have two of them. I remember getting ready for First Event in Boston and my brows just didn’t want to behave. Five attempts later, I finally got them right…. ugh!! I think that practice, practice, practice is the key. Sometimes, when the house is empty, I’ll drag out my makeup mirror and brow pencils, and just have a brow practice session… drawing them in, then wiping them off… drawing them in, then wiping them off. I’ve definitely made some improvements, but I still have a ways to go 🙂

I have my wife do them, or at least help me with them. I keep them quite short, I shave any extra bits and pluck out any long, grey ones. After that, it's on with the eyebrow pencil, under wifely guidance, to get the right shape; dead easy!

With apologies to those that have no external assistance.

Dear Lorene,

You have done EXACTLY what I do.

I am fairly UP IN YEARS, a fair complexion, a 'dirty blonde' throughout adolescence, and showing gray today. I found the best 'Nora O'Donnell-high arch look' CUT-OUTS that I could trace and replicate on myself. Since then, (and it has been several months), I pluck and 'shave' the space above my nose-bridge, pluck/shave along the top line of my eyebrows, pluck/shave within mm's of the bottom of my arch-browbone area. I 'shave my face' from my sideburns to the outside corner of my eyes. I do this ONCE a WEEK. Since my natural eyebrows are not dark, thick, and long, I believe I'm one of the fortunate ones.

After years of wondering, reading, and studying, IN MY MOST HUMBLE OPINION, it's  DEFINITELY the EYEBROWS that make or break a FEMININE face.

Sincerely and With Love,

Thea

Oh Dearest Lorene,

You are  ONE OF the most kindest individuals on the face of this earth.....either that or you are among the one of the BEST LIARS. LOL

Lorene, it wasn't until I watched a DRAG PERFORMER  chat and demonstrate on YOU-TUBE, that I began to SEE what a REAL DIFFERENCE sculpting your EYEBROWS  can make. We focus on 'the canvas', the moisturizer, foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, crease-cut, smokey-eye. eyeliner, waterline, mascara.....Don't get me wrong. IMMHO, THEY ARE ALL IMPORTANT BUT if we think those miniscule EYEBROWS are unimportant or that they do not deserve THE TIME and ATTENTION as the dress or the hair or the shoes, IF one doesn't SEE how sexy a BROW-BONE HIGHLIGHT along with a cheekbone highlight appears, all of the aforementioned has been shortchanged. Driving a car is nice but IF YOU CAN'T PARALLEL PARK, how are you going to MEET THE PRINCE?

Keep it coming Lorene. I'm loving this chat.  Sunday for me is EYEBROW NIGHT, but I can make it sooner! LOL

I would like to shape my eyebrows more but just havent gotten to that point, and at my age those white ones seem to grow overnight. 😣  I have tried using a glue stick and concealer/press powder.  It is not perfect but it allows me to raise my brows and shape them anyway that I want to.   I bring my eyeshadow up to them.  But who knows if it really looks decent when you are just at home.  One thing I am really thinking about is what I like to wear around the house is not what I should be wearing if I were to go out in public and makeup and eyebrows are just as important in that regard.

I have mine waxed and shaped. I have bushy unibrow, so it took me and my wax tech to tame them. I am still playing with shape, but am slowly heading as feminine a brow as we can manage. If I find somwthing I really like then I may do thermolysis ti make them permanant.

Before I started crossdressing, I thought earrings on a man was a bit effeminate, but now on this road, I have changed my opinion entirely and love my pierced ears, especially when fully dressed and can wear my silver, blingy hoops. I keep toying with the idea of getting a second pair of lobe piercings but whereas one pair is mostly acceptable in a man, I'm not sure about two pairs. I don't suppose I should be that bothered as even in drab, I have painted nails, I wear rings, bracelets and other big giveaways.

I have a mani, pedi and eyebrows waxed every three weeks. She trim and also uses tweezers on them. My eyebrows do not extend very much so I use a brown pencil to extend then about 3/4 of an inch.

When I get a haircut I get my eyebrows trimmed. In between I will pluck the longer hairs. I looked a them after getting my haircut last week and see where I could clean up some of the shorter hairs on the end. I'm planning on working at that but slowly so it is less noticeable. Wearing glasses will help in covering up what I am doing (still not out but there are subtle hints - 24/7 pierced ears, manicured nails with clear pink tinged polish).

Hope you're able to figure out what to do with yours.

I too, get mine trimmed when I get a haircut. I get the "spider legs" if I don't. The brows are getting a little more sparse along with the hair on my head though. I still pluck occasionally, trying to get an androgynous shape to what's there.  When it comes time to put on some makeup, I will have to experiment with filling them in.

Dear Harriette,

I bought and used the stencil kit only to find the shape I desired. I tried to blot/trace the outline with the dabber. I made several attempts before I was happy but if you're patient with yourself and with the process, you may like what you see.

I don't think the cost was more than $10-$15.

Good luck and you'll do just fine.

Many years ago I had natural beautiful eye brows, not so now, nothing is left anymore.  They are just about gone completely.  On my girly dress up days,  I use either an eyebrow pencil or a type of gel pencil I found in a beauty shop to enhance what is left of my eyebrows.

One of the most frustrating things to use, which I quit using and tossed out, are those eyebrow stencils.

Thankfully, I don't have the "Dennis Healy" eyebrows (Our Brit members will remember him), but they do get a bit unruly. I get them trimmed by the woman that cuts my hair every month, which keeps them in some kind of check, but I do use the magnifying mirror to see the long ones that start to sneak out between haircuts, so I can either pluck or snip them back into shape.

I have a read-headed daughter whose eyebrows are so fine as to be invisible, she has hers done at a salon somewhere, where the stylist either dyes what she has, or paints on brows. I'm not sure of the process, but the colour she gets them done matches her red hair.
