25 Ways to Prevent Illness
- Wash your hands frequently when out.
- Use a paper towel to open bathroom doors and turn on tap water.
- Use hand sanitizer if you have to touch things that others have been touching (doorknobs, shopping carts, etc.)
- Use antibacterial wipes (at least baby wipes) to wipe your steering wheel.
- Avoid touching your face – this prevents germs from hands getting into nose and mouth.
- Take a quick hot shower when getting home from school or work.
- Change clothes when returning from school or work (I usually change from male to female anyway).
- Wash your hands after using bathroom and before preparing any food (even a snack).
If your area is getting hit hard by an illness …
- Stay home as much as possible: avoid malls, movie theaters, and sports events.
- Stay away from sick people if you can.
- Do not eat at restaurants because you do not know the hygiene of their staff.
If your family or roommates get sick …
- If you or a family member gets sick, stay home from work or school to prevent passing it on to others.
- If a family member is sick, keep them isolated from the rest of the family.
- Use antibacterial wipes to clean surfaces that the sick person touches – e.g. doorknobs, TV Remotes, keyboards, phone, etc
- Immediately place a sick person’s dishes and flatware into hot soapy dishwater with a cap full of bleach in it.
- Teach children to cough into the crook of their arm (armpit) instead of covering their mouth with their hands
- Make the sick person wash their hands frequently with soap and water to help prevent speading germs through physical contact.
Other health strategies …
- Drink lots of water to keep your system hydrated and efficient (apparently hot water is better than cold water against viruses).
- Take high quality, organic multi-vitamins.
- Take at least 3000 IUs of Vitamin D daily – research has shown a link between Vitamin D deficiency and susceptibility to viruses.
- Eat lots of fruits and veggies; limit processed foods if possible.
- Get 7 to 9 hours sleep per day if possible – a tired body has weaker immunity to viruses.
- Don’t smoke – it weakens your resistance.
- Avoid or limit alcoholic beverages – it weakens your resistance.
- Get sunshine! Being out in the sun may help because it inactivates the many virus and can synthesize vitamin D in one’s skin if sunlight is strong enough. Sunlight also kills bacteria that cause lung and other infections in hospitals.
