This weekend my SO and I drove 255 miles across the state for my daughter’s college graduation. It rained so hard most of the way there that you couldn’t see above 15 - 20 feet in front of you. That was Saturday when we got to our destination it was suddenly bright and clear. We hoped that Sunday when the ceremony was scheduled it would be the same. NO! At about 3AM Sunday it started to rain and lighting. It sort of cleared up about an hour before the scheduled time. So we drove the 50 miles from where we had to stay to her apartment. When we got there she told us that the earlier ceremony had been canceled and that she was supposed to get a message if her’s was still on. It was still sort of clear so we hoped! Again NO it was canceled too. But so the SO, my daughter, her boyfriend and I went to get a celebratory dinner at one of the local restaurants that they liked (the meal was very good and didn’t set me back as much as I had thought it would). So today the SO and I drove the 255 miles back home in the rain that had moved out of there.
Now the worse part of all of this was that we had not met our daughter’s boyfriend before. So I had to take off my lovely fingernail polish and wear total drab down to total guy underwear. (Haha he never knew about my toes still being polished) So that he wouldn’t think that he was getting involved with some weird family! Per the SO, not that she was ashamed of me she said but. And my skin still itches from not wearing my femme things they are so much nicer!!!
Actually he seems to be a very nice young man. And unlike some of the guys she had dated in the past he would/could hold a conversation with me. It was really rather refreshing! I actually liked him. He is a couple of years older than my daughter and has held a real job for 2.5 years. And it seems that he is nice to her! Number one point in dad’s book.
Well enough rank! Thank you if you read any or all of it!!
Hugs
Leslie
Hi Leslie,
Condolences on the inclement weather and the long drive to and from. But you did get to see your daughter and meet her boyfriend. I remember my dad flew cross country for my college graduation and it was a sunny hot May afternoon. We sweated in the black robes with suit and ties underneath. But now you can enjoy a lovely bubble bath to rid that scratchiness.
Alice
Your graduation sounds like mine was the hottest of the year.
And any time I get to spend with my daughter is wonderful. I love as only an late in life first time father can!
I think the hotel’s sheets didn’t help the skin either I understand that they have to wash the hell out of them right now. And that my skin is rather sensitive but a girl can hope. Right?,
Well the weather might have sucked but things could be much worse. You could have found out she didn't graduate. Was dating a idiot. And they want to come home. Live in your basement until they find themselves and eat your food
And you could never dress up . See how much better you feel now. Glad I could cheer you up;
Fooled him we don’t have a basement. And our place is still buried in her stuff we probably wouldn’t notice them being here for several days at least. Though we might notice the missing food. Actually if it ment she would be home I probably wouldn’t care. She has always been my best friend. There is no way that anyone who knew both of us could ever think we weren’t related our personalities are so similar.
That sounds wonderful. It's great to have that kind of a bond
Hello Leslie...
She graduated!!!!....sod the weather....
If it's any consolation...it pissed down rained heavy all weekend here in my little piece of England.
So glad you did manage to keep those toenails painted.....the cardinal sin is to be 100% drab!!!
Take care honey, grace 💓💓
Grace;
I'm going to steal that line.. "The cardinal sin is to be 100% drab!!!" You are so right!
Love it!... Going though a patch where the SO has asked me not to trigger her "for a while" and I'm going along with not painting and growing the nails for a while... My pierced ears (but only one on each side), has actually kept me sane with "At least I can wear some pretty earrings sometimes". All drab is torture.

Molly....you steal what you like!!!....oooh hun, I do feel for you.....hang in there...xx
Leslie;
Congrats for your daughter. I understand your feelings completely about the boyfriends. If the make the daughter happy and look like they're going to treat them well, then it's just a very pleasant bonus if you can talk with them.
Loved the story and I can relate.
Thanks.
