Hi Bridgette,
I suspect unless you're living in a big city - or prepared to travel up to one - tracking down a dressing service could be frustrating. I even drew a blank searching Cardiff, the 'big' city nearest me.
As for costs, well one girl's 'too expensive' is another girl's pocket money. I paid about £100 for a few hours, and I had to put petrol in the car - it was a fair drive away. It was a treat to myself, but also justifiable in helping me out of my cd shell a little more.

Oh that is wonderful to hear! It is a nice way to treat yourself and get out there and learn about everything. There is one near me I want to go to, but it'll wait.
It is probably a wonderful time out, hope you get to do it all over again!

I wouldn't call that pocket change, but I would call it worth it! Good for you.

Thanks very much! I can see this as being do-able, as that's not so far a drive. I don't see when exactly, but I do see that happening.
Edit: I showed my wife the link and she wants to give me that for a Christmas present! So yay! And thanks so much!

- a sweet outcome Bridgette, so pleased for you !

I went to a criss dressing service here in Minneapolis. Sad to say she has moved to Vegas now. But it was awesome. She was a makeup artist and very good at it. She spent 45 min doing my makeup and then we did some out changes with different eigs.
it cost about $150 for 90 minutes. Well worth it
I have had several sessions in the past at a service here in LA and always found it enjoyable. The people that run these services know just what to suggest and how to treat their customers offering acceptance and confidence. The cost may be a bit pricey but the experience is forever and most girls will always remember it as a mile stone. I remember my experiences years later with great detail. Also be aware you will save money in the future knowing what goes good with you look in terms of cosmetics and clothes.
Hi Marti, congratulations. I'm sure you had an amazing time.
I first went to a cross dressing service back in 2009. I had been looking at several in my area. Most were about $300 for 3 hours, but also a bit distant and had to cross a bridge or two with a toll, which meant I would have to pay cash so it didn't end up on the electronic toll tag record (just in case). And her price was only $200.
In my case this really was pocket change. I had recently started collecting loose change every week, and would roll it up whenever I had enough for a roll. It turns out I had a little more than $200 in (wrapped) pocket change, so I was able to put some in the bank for a deposit and the rest for a final payment. Due to a breakdown in my marriage at the time, I had a separate bank account. My (at the time) spouse was also bugging me about when I was going to do something about the wrapped coins, so I was able to accommodate her, and it didn't impact the budget.
In addition to being cheaper, she was closer than the others, and which could be gotten to without a toll. The woman running the service converted her sun room into a studio with everything. Clothing, makeup, shoes, wigs, jewelry, the whole kit and caboodle. i had one day available when I could go undetected, and fortunately she was available.
I went in expecting a makeover, photos, and a trip out with her to eat. I figured because of my family situation, I would only have this one chance to go out in public, or at least it would be extremely rare. But what I got was a makeup lesson as well. She gave me a bra and old foam breast forms (which she gave me to keep), and while we tried on a few wigs, I wanted to wear my own long hair, so she gave me clip on bangs to cover my male looking forehead.
But I got so much more. The woman threw parties in her home for CD/TG folk and supporters, which I started attending within a few months. Many were themed, so I got to play around in various costumes. She had events outside her home, such as shopping trips, putting on a show (in which I was a participant), trips to eat outside, an anniversary party in which I wore a quinceanera gown. I attended a conference with her, and a trip to see a show about the Stonewall Inn in New York City. She became a friend as well.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that this "one-time" trip changed the direction of my life. Attending these events has given me the confidence to go out in public, which I do quite often.
I wish one of these were available in my area (Atlanta). Phoebe Cross comes up frequently when I have searched but she doesn't seem to be returning messages anymore.
Congratulations, Marti! I’m glad you enjoyed yourself so much. It sounds like a blast. To visit a CD makeup artist is on my bucket list.
Much love,
Raquel
I am going to Tampa Florida for a training trip soon. I am flying in a day early just to go to an appointment for a full make over, photo session and a night out with the girls. I am so looking forward to this trip. Every time I think about it I can’t keep from smiling. I have never been to a Dressing service before, not sure what to expect. I have spoken to the lady that runs the boutique. She seems really nice. I am going to bring some of my favorite items, but I will let her do my make up and dress me as she sees fit to. Hopefully I am happy with the results. So excited. Ginny.
Expect to enjoy yourself Ginny. Do come back and tell us all how it went.

Oh I sure will. I am about to burst with excitement. This next month will seem like an eternity.
