Do we have any Greek members here? Has anyone been recently?
I had a holiday booked with friends in September, but they've all Covid-ed out, even though our flights were all paid for. I'm thinking of going it alone anyway and thought it would be a great opportunity to spend the week en femme in a place far from home where nobody knows me.
I guess I will have to travel in drab as I only have male ID, so will need to check in to apartment and hire car as male, but after that I just want to present as female for the week.
Can anyone advise me about any laws against crossdressing in Greece? What about using restrooms etc. in bars or restaurants?
I don’t know about laws regarding cross dressing... Greece is not a Muslim country...Muslim countries do not tolerate LGBTQ’s. There will be lots of Muslim influences there. I had an aunt and uncle who lived in Greece many years ago. He worked in the oil patch in Iraq. If your blonde be prepared to have your butt grabbed regularly... Greek men were very rude , nasty and thought it was 100% ok to grab a handful of butt any time ,any place, with no regard for the lady involved. You do what you feel is best for you ... but this cowgirl is not interested in such an adventure... especially alone
I'm sorry I can't provide you current and up to date info on Greece, the time we went was after 9/11.
We stayed in Athens, and had a bus tour with Trafalgar that took us to many places, like Olympia. Before the actual tour started, the tour company had an optional one day tour to the islands, I remember one was Hydra (or was it Hydrous ?).
I do remember traffic was insane, and at that time there were a lot of stray cats and dogs. We stayed a short distance from their parliament building, and across the street from the hotel was a park.
We just walked to most places, and did take their subway system once. I also remember Monstraki, and there was a flea market there where we strolled around and just window shopped at the various vendors.
There is a lot of people that just walk in the area we stayed at, so it does get crowded.
I hope it kinda helps.
Fiona,
LGBT+ are protected by law in Greece under laws that passed with a good majority. Greeks are pretty tolerant, and Greek mythology is full of crossdressing so there is history there.
Having said that, Greek men are on the macho end so be ready for some cat calls. My experience, albeit not in Greece but in S Europe was simply stand your ground and they move on. There is this idea that all Northern European women are out to get laid so they are chancing that the story is true.
Usual thing, avoid groups of young men, dark alleys and the like!
Hope you look good in a swimsuit ;-), enjoy!

Mykonos is the party island and as such, very LGBT friendly.
Athens not so much - the islands are prettier anyway.
I think your best bet for going enfemme is Mykonos - pretty much anything goes there. 🙂
Thanks Jenny. I'm actually heading to Kos
ah wonderful! i have been to kos, but it was years ago. i don't have much memory of it, but my hunch is probably NOT terribly CD friendly? possibly a bit more conservative, old school island mentality.
it will be beautiful though for sure! would love to hear about your trip afterwards
