Hi Girls,

Thank you all again for your support since I joined this community only a few short weeks ago.
You have all helped me to have the courage to go out and about. 🙂

Today, I went to the West End of the city to one of the shopping complexes... Mayfield Common.

I browsed in the Laura Outlet Store and Ricki's. Laura's Outlet were having a sale, up to 80% off, however, the staff did not seem particularly interested in making any sales.

Ricki's was a different story where I was assisted admirably. After that I went into Winners where, as has been my experience so far, I received a nice welcome.

During this time, I also walked around window shopping with no incidents. The only reaction I observed was when I got back to my car. A young woman walked past in front of me as I was opening the door. She looked at me and gave a knowing and friendly smile. Made me feel good.

I went to the same restaurant for lunch, the State and Main in Spruce Grove. The leading hostess greeted me warmly and took me to a table. Later she came over to ask how things are going. I told her that things are going really well and I thanked her again for her support.
She then told me that I had the support of all the staff and they all think I am awesome.
Well, I don't know if I am awesome, but that made the rest of my day. 🙂

When I went out and about dressed years ago, my reception was nothing like it is now. I remember going into a ladies' clothing store on Whyte Avenue, this would be around 1999 and asking to try on a blouse.
I was told, in a very curt manner, that I could try on whatever I wanted to but, "Try it on and you've bought it!"
I neither tried anything on, nor did I buy anything.

Definitely a different day and age, at least in this area.

Thank you all for listening.

Aurora, congrats on another successful day out. I agree, things certainly have changed for the better. I also had a pleasant experience in a store today. I had ordered a pair of black heeled booties from Torrid, and just had them delivered to the store. I had guessed on the size, because they didn't have them in stock to try on. So, I went to pick them up, the woman went to the back and got the box. When she gave it to me, she asked if I'd like to try them on. I graciously accepted, she said I could sit on the bench in their shoe section, or go to the chair back in the dressing area. I went to the dressing room, just so I wouldn't be trying heels on in the middle of other shoppers while in drab. They are a little loose, but I'm pretty sure the next 1/2 size down probably would have been a bit short for my toes. When she came back and asked about them, I told her they were good. She said, "Oh good, I was a little worried about the fit." She was just very pleasant and helpful. I know I wouldn't have had that kind of experience, not that many years ago. Society is coming along, slow but sure.

Now I need somewhere I can go out dressed up a bit, to wear my new black boots! 🙂

Hi Birel,

That sounds like a very pleasant shopping experience, in particular that the sales lady just accepted they were for you and, "Would you like to try them on?"

I think that I will have to shop at Torrid for new sandals as well as I need a wide fit. There is a Torrid store in the City Centre Mall, but I never enjoy driving to the city centre. Too much traffice, one-way streets, avenues that turn into roads and then head away from where you want to go. I think that it would still be worth it though and I am sure of a parking space at the mall.

I always have a good experience at Torrid, as well as Lane Bryant. I got married and died for my first bra at Torrid. She was so nice.

Oh, yeah, she did just assume they were for me, and I was dressed very drab, because I had just gotten off work. But, I think some of the people at that store recognize me. I've shopped there, and tried things on, both en femme and in drab. I'm very comfortable shopping there either way, and they seem to be ok with it as well.

I've actually never shopped at Lane Bryant, but I agree Torrid is always a good experience.

Aurora.

Well done honey, I love reading about the girls on here that make their trips out and really enjoy them. It really is all about confidence, and the more days out you have, the braver and bolder you will become.....well done.

I think the main thing for you to remember now is that if you have the odd set back,  ( and we all usually get one or two ) don't let it get you down. Just remember your wonderful days out and carry on carrying on!!!

best wishes, grace x
