It has been more than two weeks since I have been able to dress. My (nonsupportive) wife works for a school system and has been off since mid December. So, since the opportunity arose yesterday, I chose to get dressed and go shopping. Have those of you who go out dressed noticed that you get into a bit of a rut regarding which stores you feel safe going to? Maybe it’s just me. Anyway, I decided that I would go somewhere different yesterday. I checked out a thrift store that I have wanting to go to. Their clothing selection is limited, but their prices are low. I picked up a cute long sleeve top that was only $2! Then I stopped into another store that I had been into once before with my wife. It’s kind of a beauty supply store. I got some hair ties that have been on my list for a while.
Then, today I decided to go to my usual haunts. Goodwill and Walmart. I was walking into goodwill, not feeling terribly confident in my outfit and wondered if maybe I should just go home. I went in anyway and was greeted by an associate with a hearty “good morning ma’am”. Well that was a confidence booster and totally made my day. Unfortunately I didn’t find anything to buy, but I did try on a cute skirt that just wasn’t my style. Even after that confidence builder, I kept feeling that too many people at Walmart were giving me odd looks, so I ended my expedition after doing a little grocery shopping. All in all a couple of fun days.

@ashleigh: I just went out clothes shopping Wednesday, two days ago. I had to exchange a dress that I'd bought Friday the previous week. I was in "male mode".

I never feel in a rut browsing/shopping in the same stores regarding where I feel safe; as long as they have new inventory, I'm enjoying myself and having fun.

I've gone into thrift/charity/resale/consignment stores and found some great deals on clothes I would never have paid full price for. I've looked around my local Goodwill but haven't got anything; most selection is too small and nothing in my size caught my eye. Wal-Mart has been a constant "haunt" for me since 2016; that's where I bought and exchanged the new dress.

I haven’t been to Walmart en femme at all but even in drab it’s hard to walk in that store. It’s just weird looks and oddities everywhere regardless so maybe don’t look too much into that spot specifically is my advice lol.

@rebeccaoh There seems to be a not so secret Walmart contest or challenge: can you dress weirdly enough to get added to any of the many viral threads?

I think sometimes we have a tendency to overthink things. I know sometimes when I have something good happen, I'm already wondering what is going to go wrong. That is the way my brain works.

I dislike Walmart, and have only been in one a couple of times. In general I do not like shopping in discount type stores. Mostly they just attract a certain type of people that are just inconsiderate and lazy. My biggest issue is they just don't care. If I take something off a shelf, I fold it and put it back as I found it, not in a heap on the floor. The worst place is a near by Old Navy. People just leave such a mess and that really bothers me.

@jjandme I worked in a few retail stores for a long time. I know exactly what you mean - put things back how and where you find them. I am still trying to get my wife to do that, but it is a struggle.

🍒🍒 I lov shopping  Older Downtown Thrift Stores  especially the Older Big one , lot of selection ,  bigger , slow store ,  = great values, great selection, lots of stock, lots of hidden Treasures.👗

I have found some unbelievable items in them,  some great things ..

Even sometimes had woman really want to help me find things & help pick items out . 🍒🍒

@stephanieann I have shopped at a few thrift stores, but none are close enough to me, to make them useful.

On the other hand, I like order and availability of sizes in something that I like, and thrift stores are just too random to want to spend so much effort just to find the unusual bargains.

@stephanieann Thanks, but I won't shop on Amazon. 😉

I didn't know that they had a CD section. When I see CD sections on other sites, though, their clothing look like a man's fantasy version of what they would expect a CD would wear. Not my style.
