There have been a couple Music forum topics lately. I was wondering what some of your thoughts on a best first album are. I have to go with the Doors First LP. It changed my life. Not sure if it was always for the better though. Zeppelin's first comes to mind. Bad Company's self titled debut. And The Black Crowes. Shake your money maker. There are so many. This topic may have come up before. But if it did I missed it. Hugs to all who Love Music!! Pru
Bad company was excellent.
Stings 1st release was also great
But since I was a teen in the 80s almost all my faves are not only 1st but last sooooo
My three all time favorites:
1. Chicago Transit Authority
2. The Allman Brothers, live at the Fillmore East
3. Taj Mahal, In Progress and in Motion
Stings was a good album. I grew up in the 70's. Still missed a lot of the first albums. But got to see some of the original lineups live.
Taj Mahal, been a while since I have listened to that. Nice choice!
Hi Pru....
Where on earth do you start???
Queen of course!!!...debut studio album was real rock...My Fairy King, Keep yourself alive, Liar, Doing all right.....it was stuffed with brilliant tracks....and warned us of just what was to come!!!
Also loved Dire Straits debut...it opened my disbelieving ears to Mark Knopflers guitar playing, wow!!!....Down to the Waterline still gives me goosebumps...
Oasis.... Definitely Maybe....kings of Britpop....Supersonic, Cigarettes and Alcohol and Live Forever....and look what followed that!!!
Just my opinions!!

Hi Pru,
Trapped in the past.. a 1968 album called "Music in a Doll's House" by a band called Family. Pure british psychedelia.

Great choices Grace. I dont have a way with words like you, But I thought I would throw this out there. Hugs
Marti, something else for me to look up, Thanks!
Prudence, I fell in love with Taj ever since I watched the movie, " Sounder"
back in the 70's! 😉
The Police - Outlados D'Amore. Brilliant album - melding rock, reggae and pop. There are more songs you know on this album than you thought you knew. All together: Raaaaaksaaan!!!
Metallica - Kill 'Em All. The world's introduction to all the light and shade, and more shade - oh, and extreme adrenaline of heavy metal. This molten machine annihilated the competition back in 1983, and sits dangerously on the edge from beginning to light speed ending.
Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn: Redefined what you can do with rock music for every generation that followed. Floyd virtually invented space rock, but didn't settle there, with gentle, Cambridge English whimsy and hard rock thrown in, with just about everything else. It wouldn't surprise me if they included the kitchen sink.
Muse - Showbiz. Brought progressive, metal and classical (well, almost entirely Rachmaninoff) to pop, with epic constructions, high drama screamotional lyrics and riffs to shadow Black Sabbath, not to mention some of the most graceful, aching, arching melodies ever to caress the ears.
Motorhead - On Parole. This bad boy was too bad for United Artists to release in 1975. They cruelly shelved it, leaving the band to struggle, so much so that Lemmy had to enlist a new band. But, from the roaring Motorbike intro to the self-referential opener to the haunting outro of Lost Johnny, baying at the moon, this powerful collection of Lemmy originals, Pink Fairies classics and other covers is one of the strongest mission statements from any band - and quite possibly the birthplace of punk, if not heavy metal. Motorhead's giggling buddies The Damned, went on to release the first punk album, Damned, Damned, Damned in 1976, which is well worth a listen.
Interestingly, On Parole was recorded in 1975, the same year that Iron Maiden formed. Maiden formed on Christmas day, which, interestingly still, is Lemmy's birthday. It was only cynically released when UA saw Motorhead gaining popularity and thus record sales in 1978.
Mind you, Lemmy's original name for the band may have had something to do with UA's original decision!
To my ears at least, this album is an oft-overlooked gem. A veritable rough diamond.

Yes!!! Oh, yes!!!
Queen's debut is a brilliant, brilliant album - I could wax lyrical... but I'll spare you that again 😊
there are many options, but this American gurl has to vote for the first, self titled album Creedence Clearwater Revival.Swamp rock with a psychedelic tinge, including the famous covers of "Suzie Q" and "I Put A Spell on You". Only the start for John Fogerty, who's still rockin @ age 70+

I Love CCR. Great choice!
