Went to a thrift store with the wife today in a much larger town near me. A bit nervous after the incident I talked about before in the other thrift store, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
As usual, shopped for myself with no qualms, but the attitude of the store was much better!
Heard an unfamiliar voice from the next rack over as I held a nice embroidered peasant blouse against me for fit, "that will look lovely on you dear!" looked over to see a lady customer smiling at me, and being pleasant. And yes, I bought the blouse. 🙂
Sales clerk didn't bat an eye, and even asked if we had seen their rack of plus size dresses they had just marked down (We had, but nothing I could wear) Maybe there's some hope for this area after all! Only trouble I had was getting away from all the girl talk at the register so we could continue our trip!
The only "bad" thing was the lack of selection this time around, and my wife beating me to a lovely red patterned scarf I had my eye on. Got to remember to keep an eye on that gal, she's quick!
Felt so good to be treated well, definately shopping there again when we make our monthly shopping trip. The ironic thing is, this is a church-run thrift store, and I was treated in a much kinder way than at that Goodwill, which is supposed to be neutral. Go figure!
Hi Dianne,
That is good news your shopping visit was better than the earlier one. Enjoy the blouse. Hope you have something to pair it with.

Oh yes, got a skirt, too. Having to be careful with skirts, have the happy issue of shrinking out of them faster than anticipated! 🙂
Have little more leeway with tops, fortunately. Waiting until all the weight is off to really build a wardrobe. But in the meantime, having fun shopping and looking at all the possibilities!
That sounds like really fun and exciting shopping trip. You so lucky to have a supportive wife that goes shopping with you. I am really Jealous lol.
Hi Dianna,
Shopping can be fun until the bill arrives. If your skirts are getting too big you might look at the do it yourself hip pads on you tube to use until you reach your goal.

It's why I am limiting clothes shopping to thrift stores for now, and not picking up a lot just yet, either. The rest is just "window shopping" as my budget is limited.
My workout routine is centered around feminizing as much as possible, which will help a little, too, later on. For now at least, hips are curving well enough, it's the issue of waistline vs hips when it comes to proper fitting.
My other issue, especially in dresses, is the usual male torso being longer thing, so going to learn to sew much more than just the basic stuff I know now, create/modify patterns, (being a retired fabricator should help a lot) and make myself some nice stuff that actually fits. Along with shopping at stores that cater to us "special" girls, etc. In the meantime, my sewing skills are enough to keep the stuff I have now going until the weight comes off. But, holding off on doing much in the way of new, until it does. Yeah those bills do add up!
Fortunately, I am more of a skirt and blouse kind of girl, which certainly helps in thrift store shopping for my immediate needs. But I don't want everything to be S&B in the long run. Unfortunately, my LBD isn't going to be so little, no matter how much weight I lose! 🙂
So glad you had a good experience this time.
Hugs, Liara
