Hi all,

"Big Boys Toys" - by which I mean those items that appeal to the boyish playfulness in men. Sometimes frivolous ("hey let's buy a drone just to have a mess around", or "wouldn't it be fun to buy an astronomical telescope?"). Sometimes functional like music systems or phones - yet somehow the purchase becomes an expensive top of the range model adding bells and whistles which you may well never need or fully appreciate.

Well firstly, do you recognise that trait in yourself?

If so, as you explore the woman in you, do you find that aspect diminishing in your thinking? Is it a trait that you still indulge in?

Or have you desisted and found its equivalence in "Big Girls Must Haves"?

Hi Marti, thanks for bringing this up. I still have all those "Boyish" traits you mentioned. My interests vary so much from being an artist to restoring antiques. And everything in-between. I also love to sew (Sewed professionally for 30 years). I'm a crafty type and my mind goes into overload when I hit Hobby Lobby! lol
But I do understand your question. Like anything else in life, I am learning moderation. I've always been an "All in" kinda guy/gal but I really believe that there is room for everything.
I bought a nice drone last year, flew everyday for 2 months, mastered it (sort of lol) but burned myself out on it. Now I do a little of everything. When I feel burn out coming on, I just finish the project and go to something totally different. (Adult ADHD lol)
But I still love all my tools. I just don't build things in a black mini and thing highs. lol
Like Mr. Miagi, must find balance.
There, I'll get off my soapbox now. lol
Take care,
Jassy 🙂

Marti I used to spend a good portion of my disposable income on my hobbies but that has changed drastically over the years. Now most of it is spent on nice designer clothes, name brand shoes, jewelry, makeup and wigs. I find more personal pleasure in spending my “mad money” on the finer feminine things than I ever did from my big boy toys. Guess that puts me in the big girl must have category spender. At least I haven’t gone full Emelda Marcos yet, maybe just Carrie Bradshaw… 😂😂

I would have to say as I explore my femme side more, approximately 80/20, 80 femme and 20 drab.

Before when I had to keep Wendy a total secret, it was the other way around 80 drab 20 femme.  I would spend money on stuff like video game consoles (however, one could argue girls game as much if not more than boys), and collectibles.

Now, since coming out to my wife, I am exploring and finding interest in women's stuff way more, like clothing, perfume, shoes, underthings, ... pretty much anything feminine.

If there is still one "big boy trait" left, is that I'm still into big trucks.  However, I think the line is becoming more and more blurred in that area each day as more girls are getting into big rigs too.

I still like Trucks. Wheelers. Jet skis and Jeeps. I would be the girl in the jacked up truck. Call me a Harley bitch if you want.

The only big boys toys I was interested in was 44 tonne trucks which I drove as an international truck driver for over 40 years until retirement . and fast motorcycles which I still ride to this present day,

Yes, you could say my interests have shifted. Bettylou is mainly interested in shopping for pretty clothes. Before Bettylou, wardrobe was at the bottom of my list, and military firearms were at the top. It's been over two years since I was at the range, firing full-auto.

Marti....

I have absolutely no interest in virtually any He- man traits....

from the petrol heads screaming around town in their penis extentions souped up cars, to the "mens men" groping each other in a rugby scrum to the tattooed body builders down the gym.....I am happy to live a gentle, peaceful life....just full of colour!!!!

Wendy, I have to admit that the terms 'big rig'  and 'big truck' confuse me. They aren't used in the UK - are they commercial or leisure vehicles - am I right in thinking they're like big 4 x 4 utility vehicles?

I wonder if I could get away with referring to my baby mercedes  car as a micro-truck?

- oh dear, I think I need to expand my definition of a big boy's toy. The closest I got to shooting anything was a cap gun. But good for you BettyLou.

- I must have been thinking of you Jassy, when I came up with the drone example.

You make a good point about artistic stuff though. A ggf is a potter among other things - she recently spent a few grand on a kiln without batting an eyelash. Next comes building an extension to accommodate it properly!

-perhaps I could tempt you with a high tech psychedelic colour making machine?  I think it's called a bubble wand.

Oh no Marti still love my toys. I had to get rid of my bike so I bought a fishing boat and a '94 Camaro I'm re-doing. I also love tools, shiny chrome steel and things that make lots of noise. My favourite I think is my pressure washer, 2600 psi and 2.3 gallons of flow. ho ho ho ho Tim Allen grunt there, my big boys squirt gun as I call it. It does a great job washing the cars and keeps the house nice and clean so the boss likes that. My goal is to have one of everything in the Canadian Tire tool section.

When I was young I over compensated with big boy toys and overly masculine activities but for the past ten years or so I've become more docile and soft in my approach to activities. I still like to fish out of my kayak if thats considered masculine now I don't know. I like to camp in a big tent that some call glamping but I walk trails and photograph nature now instead of shooting it with a gun or riding over it in an ATV. I still do all my own mechanic repairs if I can but I think some girls are doing that now too. At least currently I'm working in panties and a bra.
