In February, we bought tickets for a tattoo convention at Wadebridge Showground in Cornwall UK. When I bought the tickets, I had only been dressing for for a couple of months and hadn't even 'gone out' as Becca, but tomorrow is the big day and I am going dressed. Unlike our normal days out -- shopping, garden centre etc. -- this will be very different. There will be thousands of people deliberately looking at each other to see all the tattoos that they have and I don't expect my own visage will be treated any differently. In fact, I expect to get more looks than normal as not only am I going dressed, I also have quite a sizeable tattoo on my calf, that is quite large, colourful and unique.

I wasn't an attention seeker before, but it seems for tomorrow, I had better learn how to deal with the attention very quickly. I don't get excited over much but I'm rather looking forward to this one.

Wish me luck.

Becca

@rebeccabaxter we always used to go to the big convention at Dunstable every year. A long time ago now, I don't think it's been on for ages. We always used to glam up for it, more Mrs B than me to be fair but I always found the tattoo crowd to be amongst the most fun & welcoming bunch you could ever meet. I just know you are going to have a blast there. So, as requested, Good Luck & I look forward to hearing all about it.

And there's me worrying about getting my ears pierced!

Now ... a small and unobtrusive tattoo.

Hmmm ...

@ellyd22 It's a slippery slope! I "only" have two tattoos: left arm and right arm! Started with a smallish tattoo memorializing one the greatest border collies to walk the earth, and then next thing I knew...

Did finally get that other ear pierced this summer only to discover the other ear has since closed up in the back, darn thing.

@rebeccabaxter With all due respect, Becca, you got this.

If you are nonplussed most of the time, this should be no different. Enjoy your day out.

@rebeccabaxter You'll have fun! I've been to a couple of tattoo conventions and I always see trans folks there. It's a crowd that respects people being themselves and doing their thing, that's been my experience anyway. And you'll see some amazing artwork!

@finallyfiona With photographs hopefully, if my wife gets the hang of my camera.

But what to wear? I think I'll be rehashing an outfit in which I feel the most comfortable. Don't want to get too dressy as the place will be full of heavily tattooed, alternative lifestyle people, but don't want to look dowdy or a poor imitation of a biker gal (don't think I could pull that off at all, not at my age).

Decision will be made at the last minute, I expect.

All these clothes and nothing to wear! Now I see what cis women are talking about! Huge Smile

All these clothes and nothing to wear!

Yes, gone are the days of "same old jeans and T-shirt". I find my first thoughts in the morning as I come round to a semi-waking state are "Now, what am I going to wear today? If I wear that skirt I can't wear that top with it, but it will be too chilly for the top that goes with it. And I can't wear that other skirt because I wore that yesterday. I really need to get more clothes ..."

@fembecky Hmmm Becky actually I do regularly re-use outfits from the previous day.  Sometimes twice 😲 But I do make a point of changing clothes more regularly than I used to as male me.

@finallyfiona Yes, of course, and I do admit that actually there are often occasions when I do end up wearing the same as yesterday. BUT the thought process about not doing that is still there!

Further to my original post above, about going to a tattoo convention and getting some photographs if I could teach my wife how to use my camera...well, she couldn't. In fairness, I hadn't set it properly and the camera focussed on the wrong points so the only one I've got is one she took on her phone, which I have put on my wall.

I didn't have any reservations about going dressed to the convention and as folk here said, they were a very welcoming group of people. There were quite a few people of 'our ilk' at the convention and there was even a TG stall where one could go for advice if one needed it. Tattooists were truly out in force; I didn't expect there to be oh so many, all in one place. Now previously, in another thread, I said I could resist everything but temptation but now I find myself in a whole warehouse full of tattooists and temptation rears it's ugly head. True to form, I failed to resist, as did my wife, and we both now sport new tattoos.

I had been thinking for a while about getting a 'girly' tattoo but had put it off in case my cross dressing turned out to be a fad. Anyway, we are nearly a year in from my first cross dressing episode, so as fads go, this one has endured and shows no sign of slackening off (if anything, it's getting worse!), so since I was there with my choice of tattooists, I went for it.

The picture (a not very flattering one) on my wall shows me getting a tattoo and I have put a picture of the tattoo there as well. However, the picture of the tattoo doesn't include a complete person so whether the moderators will let it through remains to be seen.

It was a lovely place to be and I was sad that we had to leave before it got dark, the night time bands started up, and things got lively; but we have a dog and we had to get home to her.

Cost a bloody fortune (tats are not cheap) because I also bought us lunch at festival prices and a new ring for my little finger. Add the cost of the tickets and we are looking at a figure I'd rather not think about!

We had a damn good time and will go again next year, in the evening, but no more tattoos.

Never felt so comfortable dressed amongst so many people.

As an aside, when we got back home, there were so many visiting vehicles that we were unable to park anywhere near our house. We had to leave the car in the social centre's car park, some 100 metres away from the house and walk back. I wondered if anyone I knew in the village would see me but -- fortunately or unfortunately, I'm not sure which -- no one did.

Anyway, a good day which we both enjoyed.

Here's to the next day out, whatever it brings.

Sounds like a great day, Becca and your tattoo does look good.

I've never been inclined to mark my body, nature and my relentless clumsiness seem to manage that adequately enough. I have recently , though, allowed the thought to sit down and have a cup of tea instead of encouraging it to leave, briskly.

This is thanks to.....no, I cannot recall who posted it but if they/you read this, please enlighten me 🙄, to another post, in which the writer spoke of having a tattoo with a symbolic meaning. It was either a hidden female or alluded to a double persona or something like that..

Of course, having said all that, I did go and get my ears pierced last week!

Anyhoo, glad you had a good, if expensive, day 😊.

@bekkataylor Took me a while to dig out the right part of link, but I got there in the end (live links can't be pasted in public on CDH). Very subtle and tasteful.

All my tattoos are where I can see them; I've spent all that money and want to see where it's gone.

BTW, you have a very feminine rear to your head.

It seems you had a grand day out and when you are at these places it is natural to be tempted as it is a passion in your life. And also hats off to yur good lady for sharing both your passions, oh and the dog too!

@ab123 My dog probably didn't even notice we'd gone out, she is a very lazy dog and spends her day lying on the bedroom windowsill upstairs, watching the world go by.
