@gracepal

I'm sticking by the campfire! I'm visiting with friends out of town.

My cis friend is a decorista. So it's going to be Christmas decorations galore!

@gracepal I never go out on BF, as I hate pushy crowds. I will say that I have been perusing online looking for some cute wardrobe additions.  Have fun out there girls!

I'm not leaving the house! You won't find me out in that madness, and, apparently, Amazon workers are going on strike!  😆

Ditto to that! Besides, I have to work today! I may look and see if I find anything on Blue Monday!

@queenofdiamonds1960 OMG…Blue Monday? Didn’t even know about that one. Why, because one is sad from all the money spent on BF I’m guessing? So go ahead and blow some more on BM? Why not, might as well.

One thing about humankind for sure is…whatever it is, it’s never enough😜

@queenofdiamonds1960 I hadn't heard of Blue Monday, either. So...

"Blue Monday is an annual day that is often regarded as the most depressing day of the year. It typically falls on the third Monday in January and is associated with feelings of sadness, low motivation, and a lack of energy."

I don't get blue. 😇

@harriette Blue Monday…a great song by New Order that the majority of my friends hate. Which makes me love it even more.

Oh, I should have clarified…I’m definitely not leaving the house either. Online is my jam Michaela. Haven’t paid attention about the Amazon strike but I’m pretty sure whatever I order will find it’s way to my house.

First of all, the whole month of November has been turned into a Black Friday sale by retailers here, including Cyber Mondays a few days later.

Near me, there is a street that has a collection of clearance stores, not just for clothes, mostly for some big brands, but there are thrift stores, a dollar store, or just plain cheap imports, etc. This area is a godsend for saving me good money on expensive items, including clothes!

Put those two ideas together and let your imagination run.

So, yesterday, I was in a new Roots clearance store and they had their ongoing Black Friday sale of 30% off of their clearance pricing for most items. That's  a good deal any day, Black Friday or not.

On one rack there were only two bright red and white Merino wool women's sweaters. They were part of their 50th Anniversary retro collection. They were also part of this huge sizing trend, too. One was a large but too large, so I got the medium. A perfect fit without looking silly. There is no way that these two sweaters would still be around one more day. A $200 sweater that I can wear for the rest of my life for $80, tax included.

Oh, and to add, the bright red colour matched the bright red nail polish that I was wearing this week and I registered my en femme name with them using my en femme e-mail, and used a new credit card with it, too. I am starting to like this shopping thing.

@harriette Not for nothing Harriette but if I’m spending $80 on Grace I’d better be getting at least 6 new dresses, a couple of tops and pants and possibly some new pantyhose. Of course most of my shopping is done at GW and SA🥰

I’m not a “cheap” girl, I’m thrifty!

@gracepal Thrifty is good! But getting a $200 sweater for $80 can be rationalized to be "thrifty". My shopping, like yours, is GW & SA. I did find a nice pair of heels today but no real shopping adventure.

I have no idea what GW or SA are, but do they sell the Roots 50th Anniversary Collection Merino wool sweaters there? 🤓

Doh! Goodwill and Sally Ann. Got it. Shows you how often that I go there.

I'm buying nothing for Black Friday (yes, it has infected the UK, even though we don't have Thanksgiving). I bought a Ninja 12-in-1 Combi oven and Russel Hobbs microwave about six weeks ago—the Ninja was from Amazon, the microwave oven was from Argos (a UK store, not the US concrete company) and was the same price as Amazon at that time. On the day of my purchases, the combi was £185 and the microwave was £70. On that same day, I put both items into my watchlist on Amazon and saw that within a week (some four weeks before Black Friday Week) the microwave had gone up to £94 and the combi oven to £229. The microwave dropped to £74 for BF, the combi oven is still £229.

Just goes to show that BF sales aren't worth the effort of checking out; in fact, a Which (consumer magazine) survey in the UK reported that 98% of items for sale on Black Friday were at a lower price at some point within the previous year (I believe they took inflation into account). We can safely assume that it's all a big con and the best time to buy something is when you want it rather than wait for some mythical cost-saving festival...or perhaps I'm just a cynic.

@rebeccabaxter There are good deals available, cynic or no cynic. It helps to have an idea of what our closets are missing and whether we like what we see. I don't mind buying quality over quantity.

There are lots of price trackers available now, too. Even Google added one to their Chrome browser. I guess a few of their programmers said, hey, why not?

@harriette Price trackers are a bridge too far for this girl. Time is a commodity too and I can’t allot any of mine for that.

@gracepal Price trackers are a good way for a price saving shopper to do their thing.

Is it a time/price compromise? Of course.

@rebeccabaxter Becca, I would have expected nothing less from you than your first sentence of: I’m buying nothing for Black Friday….🤣

There’s certainly nothing cynical about referring to BF as a “mythical cost-saving festival”. (You Brits and your creative writing😊)

As I was in wholesale/retail sales my whole career,  I know for sure it’s all BS because at various times I helped create it!

Like you, if I want something I just get it at the time my need arises. I’m happy to pay more to avoid headaches, unnecessary effort and crowds.  I’m fortunate to be able to do that. Still, I can’t help but window-shop just to make sure I don’t miss any good deals that I have to have.

So far today there is nothing jumping out and saying “buy me!” But it’s early yet…

I've bought 2 jumpsuits, a satin gown and robe off shein. then a women's one piece swimsuit off amazon.

Looking to see if my budget will allow for a new video card for my rig.

I’ve never bought directly off the Shein website but I sure have seen a lot of their stuff at Goodwill. I always figure it’s probably a donation from one of my sisters on here😊

Well Grace, i did find two Amazon deals.. (no in store shopping for this girl on Black Friday.. yike!)  I use Lancome Teint ultra wear foundation, $20 off right now, it is my most expensive single makeup item and was coming up to needing to replace it.  Normally get it at Ulta.

Also could not resist the price on a portable lighted makeup mirror.. always wanted one for those hotel room bathrooms with marginal lighting.  50% off (wanted the pink one but it was $8 more so settled for white, Lol)

@emilysouthern You are one practical girl ES…May have to investigate those items myself. The Lancôme is a good one for the ol 5-O’Clock shadow I’m guessing? Because these days I’m halfway through taking pics and I feel like I need a shave again…yikes is right!

Hi Grace, I just got back from buying 2 pairs of leather gloves and 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid (big sales but not romantic).  I'm waiting for Cyber Monday for the rest of the toys and then onto the thrift stores.  So I did my part for the economy but nothing gorgeous was purchased. It was all just utilitarian.  Happy Sales,  Marg

@kat9476 Katty I checked out the Kohls Christmas dress and ordered a similar thing elsewhere as I need arm coverage according to my sweet wife. They’re a bit veiny and muscular for their small size.

I’ll look forward to seeing you in that bustier here on CDH girl!🥰

I am with Becca as Black Friday deals are often not the bargains they appear to be.

I didn't think about it being that day and visited my local town to get some things I needed. I wondered why it was so busy! I did have a look at a couple of clothes shops boasting 50% off and so on and actually I had been in one of the stores a couple of weeks ago and they had a 30% off sale and bought a dress which was on offer today. It wasn't any cheaper, so they upped the R.R.P. to M.R.P.

Any how I have all I need and more when it comes to clothes!

@annaredhead Ya know Anna, I finally ordered some 3” heels and was prancing around in them today practicing. I have to say it is fricking hard to walk in women’s shoes that have any kind of heel. And I’m a fairly limber gal. May have to just stick with the flats.

@gracepal I have no problem walking in a 2 inch heel and can wear them all day. My highest heels are 5 inch and look great in photos but can only walk in them in a straight line or wear them for a photoshoot. I've been wanting to try platform heels for a while.
