I have always found towards the end of the day my bra is getting a little uncomfortable. I suppose I don't mind so much as it reminds me I have one on and triggers a happy thought that I'm having time as a woman right now. When I take my bra off there are always the red marks and indents. I have always bought my bras from cheap department stores like Kmart or Target and paid about $15 on the average.

At a dinner party a wife's friend was raving about the lady who did a bra fitting for her and found for her the most comfortable bra she ever owned. Little known to everyone I was listening intently to find out where exactly it was where she went as I thought to have someone who knows what they are doing find a bra for me would be a good thing.

Remembering the name of the store (after I heard it, it was burned into the back of my brain) I arrived as Olivia and Saw the sales assistant who introduced herself al Melody. She asked my name and It still brings a little smile to me to say to someone "I'm Olivia". I then said I'm looking for a bra to wear under thinner blouses. She said "so your nipples don't show through" and I said "yes". The nipples on my breastforms are quite prominent so she immediately said a soft form bra is what you want. She looked at me and said you are a C or D cup but what is your size. I told her and thought I'd better come clean here and be up front. I said there is another thing you may want to consider and that is I'm trans and I wear breastforms. Melody said don't worry about that darling we help everyone here and then went to the rack to pick out some bras for me to try.

She came back with two bras and guided me to the fitting room. Told me which one to put on first and said the door can only be opened from the inside so she will be back in a minute. I had to take my wig off to take my blouse off then put the bra on then put my forms back in the bra and OMG!!!!!!!!. This bra didn't squeeze around me and dig in at spots like all my other bras. It was like a soft gentle hug around me. My breastforms fitted perfectly into the cups without any hollow spots or poking out anywhere. It even looked perfect in the mirror. I hadn't known a bra could feel this comfortable. This felt like heaven.

Melody then got me to sit down, stand up, raise my arms, put them down all the while looking at me checking the fit. She asked me how is it for you. I said this is amazing. The best bra I have ever worn in my life. Melody then got me to try two other bras to be sure each time leaving me in private to change neither of which were as good as the first. I looked at the price of the first bra and it was $110. It was worth it. I thought I can skimp on other girl things for a while to get something so good. Naturally Melody was happy when I said I'll take it. She was fantastic. She treated me throughout the whole process just as she would any other woman which for me was special in itself.

I know that is one mighty expensive bra. I do remember my wife paying $90 for a bra once and saying with bra's you get what you pay for. She is so right. The only thing I would say is for the girls who are dressed all day or at least most of the day by my experience it is worth the money to buy an expensive bra. If you are someone who can only dress for a short period of time like only a few hours it may not be worth the money.

Has anyone else had a bra fitting? I'd love to hear if you have how you found the experience. Also are you one for cheaper or more expensive bras. Are there any cheap ones out there that fir like a glove. Love to hear about your experiences and your thoughts.

...

Love to hear about your experiences and your thoughts.

Because of my size, I find most bras that I buy on-line are a gamble. Not a losing bet every time, but with acceptable losses. All of them were inexpensive lab experiments.

Most of my bras are 38 B or maybe a C cup. I want some smaller cup bras, but 38" bands don't come with A cups (so far). A lingerie store SA suggested getting a 36A with a band extender. I thought that it would be a good idea to try that one on. It worked. It should be more useful in warmer weather than right now, though.

Some losses involve cups that are too close together; breast forms that don't fit the cups; straps that barely fit me. Too big and the front of the bra gets lifted off of my chest. Too small and the forms flop around and don't fill the cups properly. This is just another reason to have different form sizes available.

I have one sports bra. It fits really tightly (sloppy measuring without trying something on?) Even though it is pretty tight, the breast forms still need to be on a leesh. I am not sure that I will buy a second one.

Some of these cheap bras do fit OK, but one of them has plastic side stiffeners. One of them quickly wore a hole through the cloth material and pokes tender parts. Battle wounds.

Just an aside, fancy bra cups with rough cup patterns can be difficult to keep hidden. Smooth cups can be less noticeable more often, so think form over fashion.

@oliviac Because I know my size, I have been able to buy underwire bras from a famous U.K. chain store (M&?) and they are the best-fitting bras I have ever owned. I got a twin pack for under £30.

As you describe, the band gives a nice gentle hugging feeling. Even though the shoulder straps are quite narrow, they don't dig into my shoulders, even if I wear the bra all day and well into the evening.

It really is like heaven to wear a correctly fitting bra.

I spent many a year we wearing soft bras because the underwire used to dig in after a few hours of wearing a - ill-fitting - bra. I'm back in underwired bras now as when the bra fits correctly this is no longer a problem.

Sounds like you had a great time having your bra fitting. I'm so pleased for you that you now have a well-fitting bra. The difference between a well-fitting bra and one that doesn't fit really is like night and day.

@oliviac Yes Olivia, I most certainly did and that makes things all the more sweeter.

I have to admit, I absolutely love a bargain 😆.

I was lucky in that the first bra I bought, a Bali t-shirt bra, was so comfortable that they're all I wear. For me, comfort is the most important requirement because I wear a bra and forms virtually 24/7. They only come off when I wash up or shower. They get a lot of positive reviews for comfort from genetic woman as well. You can often find them for sale around $22 US, a very reasonable price.

@oliviac I forgot to mention that the Bali bras are underwires. But they are still very comfortable.

Hi Fiona,

Thank you ! I wasn't able to find that specific bra model on Amazon in the UK, instead I found a Bali One Smooth U Ultra Light Illusion neckline underwire Bra and I thought 'what the hell, I'll give it a go'. £20.

It came yesterday. I'm not an expert by any means, but I don't need to be to think 'wow' ! I've always steered clear of underwired. Now I'll just steer clear of underwired that aren't Bali 😉

I ordered a 40C. My forms fit in perfectly, and it's the most comfortable bra I've ever put on! 5 stars from me.

Thanks again , you've made me a happy bunny!

@d44 True for me also with Bali bras.  They are a good value for the price.  I wore a Maidenform in the same size yesterday during my 7 hour drive to Michigan, and I din't bring anything other bras along, so it made for a long day.  And those brands are about the same price.  However, I've owned and even slept in Fantasie bras and they are wonderful, as they should be since they usually are very expensive.

Hi Olivia!

I am happy to hear of your positive experience. Thanks for sharing it.

I have never had a bra fitting. Maybe one day.

My current favorite is also the most comfortable bra I own and is also the most expensive I have ever purchased. It's the Soma Perfect Coverage Bra and goes for $49 online. They offer a BOGO 50% off as well.

Hugs,

Autumn

@danikiss22 Not knowing bra brands too well Dani I'm glad to hear it is one of the top brands. It wasn't as expensive as you might think as the $110 was Aussie dollars which means it was about $65 US or 55 British pounds.

I have had to formal bra fittings, but have tried bras and had help from SAs many times. My first was at VS and it was very fun. I tend to go for sexy bras so most are not that comfortable compared to some of the plainer, but built for comfort bras. My second fitting was at Soma Inyimates and I brought new forms with me. The SA could not have been more helpful and we tried a few bras to get the best fit with the forms. I even got to come out onto the sales floor where the other Sa gave her opinion. There was nobody else in the shop, so it was fun to parade around in my new bra and panties with my forms in place.

G'day Olivia

see https://www.crossdresserheaven.com/bra-shopping-my-cups-runneth-over/

and

https://www.crossdresserheaven.com/a-cd-daily-double-bra-fitting-and-dinner-out-part-2/

One of the most femme things we CD's can do, I love every second

I also went bra shopping without a fitting at Westfield Tullamarine, if you look through my articles, you'll find that one too

Happy (Bra) dressing and shopping as well

I'll PM you tomorrow with more

Caty

PS Simone Perele have always been a favorite of mine and I bought a gorgeous one at my first fitting. I bought a Lingadore at the second fitting. Illusions especially mentions bra fittings for men on their website

I'm not sure if I should mention this, since they might not be considered proper bras, but the only cheap bras I've personally found that are comfortable for long periods are bralettes, sports bras, and bikini bras.

I might have my size wrong, though.

@jessicacynthia My experience is similar to you Jessica as I have some crop top bras I wear around the house that stay comfortable all day but they don't keep my breastforms under control enough for me to wear them out in public.

I always thought about having a fitting, but I've been doing this so long I don't think it's necessary any more.

I've been wearing different brands in 2 sizes over the last 20 years and never feel uncomfortable in my bras. In fact at the end of the day I kind of hate to take it off. I suppose that wouldn't be an issue if I had breasts, but since my forms come off as well I feel sort of naked when I remove it.

@cherylt You must have found the right formula Cheryl if you are never uncomfortable in them. I too after being in a bra and forms all day feel like I'm missing something for those first few minutes after I've taken them off.

@oliviac It took a long time to find the right sizing and the brands I love to wear. Early on they were always too tight or too loose and never really comfortable. I think some of that was a result of not wearing forms. Once I got my first pair it was much easier to find bras that I love to wear.

Currently I have Warner, Breezies and Jockey of all things. My wife bought the Jockey's. They were not numeric but M, L, XL etc. She selected a size and it was too small. Rather than send them back she offered them to me and I was lucky in that they fit quite well. Most of the time I'm in my Warner's though. They are just so comfortable.

It is still fun having a fitting and trying a variety of different bras, plus just the interaction with the SA is nice.

@jjandme I'm sure it's wonderful. The other thing is I cringe at the prices of bras. My wife just purchased a few and they were $69 each on sale, normally $100. Now I'm not cheap, but that is way too much for me to spend.

@cheryltHi Cheryl.  The most I had ever spent on a bra prior to this week was $15. I would normally agree with you that $100 but I had one of those you only live once moments and went for it.

@oliviac Good for you Olivia. We should all have one of those moments. I'm just not willing to spend that much on a bra and I don't want to waste the salespersons time.

@cherylt I agree with you Cheryl. As much as talking bras with the sales lady for me is right up there on the I feel like a real woman scale, I would never have gone through that process if I wasn't serious about buying one of those bras.

It turns out I found the right size (38C) for myself plus my forms, on my own.  I'd already bought an old-stock Marks & Spencers bra online - bastion of UK retail and reliable everyday lingerie, that they are 👍.  But the day just before last Easter that resulted in my coming out, included a visit en femme to my nearest M&S for a fitting.  Straightaway she found the right model where that size fitted me absolutely perfectly.  She had me try others, and other sizes to make sure, but that was the one.  It was so comfortable, much much better than the one I had.  I walked out with two of them, amongst other items, and I recently came back for another one in a different colour.  They're only £22 in store over here, whereas I see M&S online have them at $40 in the US.

@finallyfiona I found the experience a bit similar to you Fiona in that the bras I had I thought they were comfortable but till I put on that Simone Perele I never knew how comfortable a bra can be and yours was at a bargain price.

@finallyfiona I've had lots of bras from many brands and price ranges but the ones that fit me best, hand-in-glove style, are underwired bras from M&S.

I have known all my life that I was supposed to be a girl.  Growing up I was quite familiar wit my mom's undies and learned early on how to put a bra on.  Coming to that stage in my life where I realized I was transgender and was going to transition, a proper bra fitting was a necessity.  I contacted a local business that specializes in mastectomy forms and fittings, told her I was a trans woman, and she had no problems with it.  When I arrived she greeted me and we went in for measurements and determined proper band and cup sizes.  She told me that when I came through her door she saw a lady and asked if I had an appointment, as she was expecting "a tranny."  She told me that I don't need to be concerned about passing as anyone will see me as a woman.  It was a very nice experience and I highly recommend getting a proper bra fitting!

hugs,

Ms. Lauren M
