I went into a charity shop yesterday and bought a skirt in my size, which is a size 12. However, when i got home and tried it on it didn't fit, i would say it was a size 10. Anyway i started thinking which shops in the UK preferably in Surrey that would let you go into the dressing room and try on skirts and dresses while wearing male clothes without any embarrassment on either side.

I really don't think they would care a sale is a sale

At least that's what I found

I shopped in peacocks yesterday, in drab and had no issues, even when I asked to try some jeans on, picked out a couple of other items and was treated as normal, I was mildly embarrassed because it’s all very new to me but everything was handled professionally and it put me at ease and gave me a confidence boost ready for the next shop.

I reckon just give it a go and you’ll be pleasantly suprised...I certainly was and it took a lot for me to go out and do it

I was shopping in town yesterday and had a very positive reaction. Not being snobbish by any means but I entered Primark out of interest and found the staff very helpful, one even informing me that I would be happier with the smaller size than the larger when I went to the checkout with box of tights. Maybe she was wrong in assuming they were for me but I doubt there are many men buying tights for their wives. I also bought other purchases from the women's department so my opinion of Primarks customer service and training could not be marked higher.

I'm in agreement with Sarah. I have onlky shopped as a man. I have never had a salesperson express anything other than courtesy. Several have been extremely helpful and welcoming.

Hi Vickie,

I went to a Charity Store this past week and tried on two pairs of Ladies Slacks to see what size fit better. and nobody raised an eye brow. I am realizing that most of my fears are my own. And I try to keep working through them.

One time, at a thrift store,I was asked by a women cashier. I was buying a vintage green satin dress, full length, long sleeved, and fully lined. She took the dress from the counter to ring it up, when she held it up and looked for the tag, she stopped and said,"oh my, what a beautiful dress, i love it..." she said it in a very calm and soft manner, then looked at me and asked. "Do you cross dress?" At first, I was terrified, but she was so calm and sincere, I dont think any sound came from my mouth, when I tried to respond. She then smiled and said, "I have many friends who cross dress, you found a nice dress." Then calmly folded the dress in to the bag and gave me my receipt. I was still shocked state but, it soon when away, while walking in the parking lot. I had just found an wonder dress! 100% True story.

Hi. Ive had great success and help trying on clothes ( jeans) and shoes at Long Tall Sally( Norwich ). Very helpful staff and haven't even batted an eyelid. Always in drab but I now feel  i could shop there dressed ( would have to get there first!!) Their stuff is expensive  but worth it and they do have sales.  Also I think i would be ok in Next as ive bought tights there and no one has said anything. Hope this is helpful
