Today I'm celebrating and reflecting on another trip around the Sun. It's been a good year. The life I have today was incomprehensible ten years ago. I'm fortunate and enormously grateful for what I have.
Five years ago I joined CDH to meet other girls like me. That happened. I've lost count of how many girls I've met. Easily in the hundreds. Thanks mostly to CDH.
Some people say you can't build a true friendship with someone you meet online. They're wrong. Those spaces do exist. CDH is one of them. It's a place where girls can make the connections that lead to true friendship. Meaningful friendships. Girls you bond with.
I often say that CDH changes lives. It changed mine....in so many ways. More than anything else, it's the meaningful friendships I've made. I have more dear friends today than at any other time in my life.
You know who you are. Chosen family. Thank you so much!

I offer warmest congratulations, Liz. I heartily agree, I too have made real friends here and the thing that has surprised me most, is how much I really care about them.

Yes, you can make real friends online here. Like Chrissie, I feel connected to quite a few of the girls too.
As my male self, I have a couple of close friends, to whom I'd talk about anything. They are both absolutely wonderful about Fiona, so I got that right 🙂 But we often don't actually stay in regular touch - in the usual male way, we were great friends last time we checked, so therefore we still are, no matter how long it's been! Most other people I know never seem to be much more than just acquaintances though - I guess that's how I am in male mode.
What I'm most looking forward to as Fiona is making close friendships the way that women do them, cherishing and maintaining them. Actually meeting in person, regularly if possible, and sharing time and experiences, really bonding together. So far, it's going well, even if the dates planned are a little distant as yet 🙂
You touched on something Fiona that often gets overlooked. The differences between male and female friendships. I have a few male friendships where we pick up where we left off. Years of silence disappear as though they never existed. We've known each other decades and the friendships are solid. Unaffected by whatever changes in our lives....even my transition.
But as good as those friendships are, they pale in comparison to the friendships I have with my girlfriends. There's a depth to those relationships that I've never experienced with any guy friend. A bond if you will. Much like the bonds that women cherish.
I think you'll have similar experiences as you follow your path. 😊

I have plenty of male friends. Three in particular have flown to far flung parts of the UK. But we meet once a year to play golf, and it's always like we saw each other last week. Comically we exchange written bullet points on how the wives and kids are doing in case we are quizzed for details, then spend the whole day talking sport and politics.
Whilst I have a number of GG friends of course they know nothing of Chrissie. I'm pretty sure a couple of them would be cool with it but it ain't happening.

Yes indeed, our connections can sometimes be almost life saving when you're talking with a girl who is in very deep despair. We can offer advice based on our own experience, and be a listening ear and show empathy to those who are struggling with many of the issues that are common to all of us on this journey.
In my more recent experience where I work, probably because I am intersex and actually a female, I have women who are co workers coming to talk with me sharing their problems or issues. We go for coffee, and it is making close friendships the way that women do, and we do cherish and maintain them.
I now have many close friends who are women, we get together and do things, enjoying each others company, and the wonderful part of the relationship is, to them, I am a woman, just "one of the girls."
Liz, to me, you are a woman, through and through, and you always have been! We just had to make the journey to where we both have arrived.

Thank you girlfriend! I wish CDH had been around 20 years ago. Those were some dark times. But better late than never....as they say. I found my happy place. That's what matters.
It's been a few years and I still get emotional about the deep friendships I've made here and on TGH. It's so profoundly different from anything I experienced before finding CDH and finding myself. I completely understand what you're saying about the relationships you've developed with the women you're friends with.
One of these days I'll make it back to Victoria and we'll have to have a good chat! I'd really like that.

This is a wonderful place to share our journey's, get advice and make friends. This is the one place where I can discuss my dressing knowing that others will understand. It is nice having the family that we are here - loving, compassionate, understanding sisters. I've never had any close friends that I was comfortable sharing about myself with, male or female. It is refreshing being able to do that here.
Thank you for mentioning this. Celebrating another trip around the sun is a good time for reflection about out lives - where we've been, where we are and where we're going.

I agree. CDH is a special place. I was desperately searching for a happy home five years ago. Someplace where I could be myself without ridicule or unwanted attention. I don't know what my life would be like if I hadn't stumbled upon CDH. But I don't think it would be as good. I'm very fortunate.
