Hi girls.

This isn't the first article about the experience of a professional makeover. And I suspect it won't be the last. But there's always a lot of discussion within the forums as to the pros and cons of a makeover. I was lucky enough to have my third a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to share my experience, partly because it might be of some help to those girls who may be considering such a move, but also because, somewhat selfishly, I will find it cathartic personally to share, and open up on such a personal, deep topic. I have a need to remain relevant and to be a valid member of this wonderful community. Hey, many of you know my story. I don't dress at all in real life, but now is not the time to dwell on that. All the more reason to take whatever feminine experiences I can get.

Look, I'm no expert. I suspect there are many levels of service available. On the one hand there are outlets who will just do your makeup. Maybe Sephora and Ulta in the States. Probably M and S, and Boots here in the UK. There are probably intermediate offerings. But I went to Boys Will Be Girls in South London. As I said, this was my third visit, each almost exactly a year apart. The first time I went, I was so nervous I almost turned the car round and went home. This time was quite different, and I travelled feeling girly and excited.

BWBG is a two person operation. Cindy, who is a trans girl herself, will do your makeover. No, that sentence doesn't do it justice. She will literally transform you into a beautiful woman. And her partner Victoria will take you for a walk along the Thames, or a coffee. She'll even take you nightclubbing if that's your thing. It's not mine 😂.

BWBG (hereafter referred to as Cindy so I don't have to keep pressing caps lock) provide the complete service. Professional makeup, a vast array of clothes. Dresses, skirts, tops. Lingerie. You can go quite raunchy if you so desire (see my private pics from a couple of years ago!). Beautiful wigs, exquisite jewellery. Nails. Lashes. Heels. Oh my gosh the heels! Not that I can walk in most of them 😂. Shape wear! Forms and breastplates of course. She gave me some hip pads. And I tried a corset. Gosh, I literally couldn't breathe 😂. We settled on the compromise of a waist cincher. The whole shebang.

The one thing I see regularly here is girls saying "if I had the courage". And this from women who go out for mani pedis, or who are out in the world. Look, this is the key thing. It's a one to one service. These people are professionals. It's what they do, all day every day. Not only are they exquisitely skilled in turning you into a good looking woman, but they have the personal skills to help you relax and ease into the experience. And then it's time for photos. Hundreds of them. I'm so inexperienced at all this that I will admit to feeling a bit ridiculous. I mean look at me, I'm wearing a cute dress, heels, a wig and makeup. What's going on? But Cindy's skills with the camera, and more importantly with an encouraging word, manage to tease me into so many cute poses. I feel like a real life model! Heck, I can almost smile. I don't actually ever really feel feminine. And I'm very reserved and inexpressive. The casual observer may have wondered if I was actually having a good time. But one of the skills of a public facing professional is to be able to sum up the mindset of a client and treat them accordingly. Cindy kept things nice and calm, and we had a few lovely moments of shared joy when I expressed my thrill of a particular moment. Applying my lipstick. A gorgeous pair of earrings. A beautiful wig. Silver strappy sandals that I could actually walk in 😂. Even a very (too?) girly pink bow in my hair. All the dresses. Did I mention I love dresses? The thing is, she just understands, which creates a beautiful closeness. And she's very patient and tenacious. If something's not working she'll keep trying different approaches, always with my thoughts in mind.

As for my personal choices, I mean if I was lucky enough to be dressing regularly I'm sure I'd be interested in a more casual look. Maybe a skirt and top, or jeans or leggings. But as I have no other outlet I went for very girly, very dressy, very floral and very pink. I know, pretty much like my last set of pics. But a girl likes what she likes. I've popped pics of my four outfits in my public photos (there's been a lot of discussions about that too, but despite being deeply closetted I'm happy to take the risk, as I have a need to share with the girls here).

So what's the bottom line? I mean for me, having almost no other opportunity, it's almost essential to retain my sanity. But whatever stage of dresser you are, there is really no down side to this. A quite beautiful personal feminine experience. A wonderful chance to give yourself an exquisite glimpse of what might be possible. I mean it's not cheap, but I bet most of you spend more annually than I do 😂.

Big hugs, Chrissie xx.

@chrisfp99 I went for a professional dressing service in 2009. I got a makeover (with a makeup lesson) and went out to dinner with the owner. That experience "let the genie out of the bottle" and she never wanted to go back in. My experiences have been many since that time, more than I ever could have imagined. Bride, maid, school girl, fairy, quineanera dress, or just plain going out. Going out on long drives, and lately even going out in my own neighborhood. Meeting other CD's in the area. These were beyond my wildest dreams.

Speaking of long drives and corsets, I had to do two long drives on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sitting in a car for hours is stressful on my back. I discovered that I can brace my back with a corset and it is much better. (And the second day I drove en femme!) I love wearing the corset so much, I haven't taken it off in 5 days. This isn't the first time I've worn it for days, I did it for 6 days at the Keystone conference, and I think I'm working on breaking that record this time.

If you "can't breathe," either the corset is too small, too tight, or tightened too fast to allow you to get used to it. When I put on a corset, I have to remove slack in the laces after 30-60 minutes, and if I'm wearing it longer, at least the next morning (and possibly more after that). It should be a nice hug without severly restricting your breathing. It is not like "Gone With The Wind" where Scarlet wants the corset as tight as possible. It should shape you but still be (relatively) comfortable. If I take a really big breath it is very tight, but for normal breathing or even full breaths, or for eating, it shouldn't be that restrictive. Yes I feel it but I'm not fighting it.

@alison-anderson Alison, it sounds as if you have lived the dream. For me unfortunately the genie does have to go back in the bottle, so I'm going to enjoy a rare moment in the spotlight. Interesting to hear your view on corsets. Perhaps worth another try. Although Cindy's photographic skills manage to largely mask my less than perfect figure.

Hugs, Chrissie xx.

@chrisfp99 Photography, like makeup, is all about illusion. The way you stand, the way you pose, your outfits, the lighting, all work to hide the imperfections in the figure by drawing your eye elsewhere.

@chrisfp99 Please remember that corsets are a process. They have to be broken in... you can't just strap one on and pull the laces tight and expect it to fit... it has to slowly get used to your body (and your body used to it)... It takes time and patience!

@chrisfp99 Fantastic post Chrissie 🙂

A beautiful description of your day and an emotional review that really shows what Cindy and Victoria brought out of you.

You should absolutely go for it, and wear what you want to wear, it's about how you want to feel.  And from your wonderful photos hon, it's pretty obvious you got it 🙂  I'm so pleased for you!

Big hugs,

Chrissie, this was such a beautiful and heartfelt post – thank you so much for sharing it. You’ve honestly brought the whole experience to life, and reading it made me feel a little fluttery inside… in the best way!

I’ve been so tempted to look into something like this – and your write-up makes it sound even more magical. The idea of someone helping me feel fully Jenny – lashes, heels, lipstick and all – just feels like a dream. But I’ll admit… I’m still super nervous. I’ve never had a makeover, and I still have a beard, which feels like a bit of a security blanket in day-to-day life. Letting that go, even for a day, feels like a huge step.

That said, your words really lit a little spark in me. Maybe it’s time I stopped waiting for the “perfect” moment and just let myself enjoy the experience for what it is. So thank you again for helping this girl feel a little braver.

Big hugs and admiration,
Jenny

@jennyinlace Oh Jenny, what a beautiful response. As I said it's very cathartic for me to share. Magical is the right word. There's absolutely no reason to be nervous.

I often wear a beard. I shaved it off a couple of weeks before the makeover in case my skin needed time to recover. I will say that Cindy once had a client arrive with a full beard and she had no idea how to proceed 😂.

It's a no brainer Jenny. I recommend you put your big girl's blouse on and go for it.

Hugs, Chrissie xx.

@chrisfp99 Chrissie, your new photos and all of your photos are incredibly beautiful.  As others have said, I don’t know how you can go from looking like a super model to not dressing for a year.  I know that before I started dressing fully I could have never gone to get a makeover because honestly it scared me to death.  I might have liked it so much I’d never want to get dressed as a male again.

But to the point of your article, I really do think that everyone, if possible, should go for a makeover or they will never experience the thrill of becoming a beautiful woman if only for a short time.  After all, that’s what we all want and thankfully you’ve achieved it and will have those memories for the rest of your life.  I hope you’ve inspired everyone to find out what might be.

@jennconn Jennifer, what a perfectly exquisite response from a soul sister. Of course I don't want to go back to my drab life. But given the choice of the occasional makeover or nothing at all I know where my money is.

Thank you so much for your lovely compliments on my pics. They're all I have, and they give me an enormous amount of pleasure.

Big hugs my friend, Chrissie xx.

@chrisfp99 So great that you had this time. and your pics are definitely the best to date wow what a fantastic job they did.Beautiful. The only issue with having such a great experience Is it makes it harder waiting for the next. When I have a bad dressing day I'm like meh but when a good one  like you just had I just want more.  so happy for you.  Not sure if there are any places that are as good as that here in NH US. but ill definitely be keeping an eye out. Have a great day RC

Chrissie, I am sooooo glad that you've been able to enjoy letting your inner girl out! Your account is detailed, emotive and inspiring, and your pics, as always, show a happy girly girl (and why not? I've said often, I'm much more girly than my wife!).

But what really stands out here is your continuing care for others, you get one opportunity a year to do this and still, it's not only about you. We are very lucky to have you here and I certainly hope this does inspire others to realise, and express, their inner girl!

Hi Chrissie!

Thank you so much for sharing this. I could feel every detail, every emotion you described. It’s not just about makeup or photos, is it? It’s about being seen, and maybe even rediscovering a part of yourself that’s been quietly waiting for a moment to breathe.

I haven’t had a professional makeover yet, but reading your post really stirred something in me. Especially the way you described those little moments: the lipstick, the wig, the heels you could walk in (silver strappy ones, no less! 😍). It sounds like such a magical, affirming experience, especially for those of us who don’t get many chances to explore our femininity in the real world.

I also really appreciated your honesty about not “feeling” feminine all the time, or not expressing things outwardly the way others might. That hit home for me. Sometimes I worry I don’t “do Mia right,” whatever that means. But you reminded me that we all have our own unique way of experiencing womanhood, and that’s valid and beautiful.

Big hugs,
Mia

@mialanieri Oh gosh Mia, what an eloquent and beautiful response! I can certainly relate to a part of myself waiting for a moment to breathe. I'm glad I was able to convey some of my (rather repressed) emotions, and if I have encouraged any girls here to have a further look at the possibilities then that's great.

The thing is, as you say, that despite us all sharing a fundamental and beautiful extra string to our bow, we all have our own idiosyncracies, in my case not always feeling very feminine (hence my choice of ultra girly outfits to compensate I suspect), and not always being able to express myself fully, particularly as a woman. I love your expression about 'doing Mia right'. I know exactly what you mean.

Of course you have been on your own special journey recently. How are things working out with your girlfriend?

Big hugs, Chrissie xx.

Oh Chrissie, thank you so much for your words!

That idea of a part of us “waiting to breathe” runs so deep, doesn't it? It's like we carry this gentle, beautiful truth within us for so long, and when it’s finally allowed a moment of light, it can feel overwhelming… in the best of ways.

I really relate to what you said about not always feeling feminine. I think so many of us navigate that delicate dance between what we feel inside and how we express it. And yes—sometimes the ultra girly outfits are like a little protest or celebration, saying, "I can be this if I want to!" There's no wrong way to be us. You wear your femininity your way, and that’s exactly right.

As for “doing Mia right,” I think it's just my way of staying kind to myself through the process. She's not about perfection—she's about truth, joy, and freedom. 😊

Things with my girlfriend are going gently and positively. She's been really supportive and curious, and it’s been… affirming, to say the least. We're taking it step by step, which feels right.

Sending big hugs right back to you! Keep shining, and keep being exactly who you are.

Mia xx

@mialanieri Mia, I have seen a few of your posts now my dear, and I think you have a unique ability to see the individuality in all of us, and to shine a positive light on it. Bless you.

My ultra girly outfits may well be a form of protest, but I make absolutely no apology for them. They are simply an expression of how I feel, and I so love them. Being kind to oneself sounds like the purest form of self therapy. I certainly don't beat myself up about any of this curious but exciting journey.

I'm so pleased to hear your journey with your girlfriend is going well. I'm sure your eloquence has helped with that. And I'm also sure that slow and steady wins the race.

Big hugs to you my friend, Chrissie xx.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Chrisse. Being one of (ahem) the "more mature" members of this great site, over the years, (decades??), I have been fortunate enough to have makeovers in places as far apart as Toronto, 3 different areas of the UK, Perth Western Australia and many many makeovers in other parts of Oz. (mostly Melbourne, cos I've lived here all my life.)

(Having a job that involved lots of interstate and overseas travel was the main reason for the "geography discussion"). I retired over 20 years ago, so all of the later occasions have been "domestic".

For me, a pro makeover is right up there with doing things like a CD convention and an enfemme professional bra fitting. I found them hard to split.

Tho I guess being able to have a makeover, a bra fitting and an emfemme dinner out all within the one day like I did back in 2023, would be "top of the list".

Ample evidence of "all of the above" may be found in my public photos and articles on this great(times 2) site.

But as a first step, the pro makeover is a great place to start for any "newbie".

Happy dressing and "makeovering".

"Nana" Caty.

@ryanpaul Caty, gosh you've lived a great femme life. 2023 sounds as if it will live long in your memory. I am so much more restricted. But I think all girls like us should experience this at least once. A brief glimpse of heaven. Thank you my dear xx.

Thanks Chrissie, that’s a fantastic insight into your experiences at BWBG.  I’m sure this will spur other members on to do the same.

As you know, I am already hoping (longing!) to do this and would love to visit Tracy at Femmeside…. One day I hope I can make it there.   I don’t think that I’m anxious about going any more (maybe I will be on the day?) so for me it is more about opportunity and getting “permission” to do so.   I don’t want to be deceitful, and it would be hard to have a reason to be about 70 miles away for a day…. Phone tracking apps show where we are these days, so could easily get outed, so I’d rather go with permission… I’m working on that!!

Back to you -  you look amazing in your photos, it must have been a fantastic day - with all the girly choices at your disposal, and a trained professional transforming you in such an elegant way. I bet you can’t wait for the next time!!

@jennyphose Oh Jen. We've discussed this before. I understand and admire your need for your wife's approval. You know you won't regret it if you manage to get to Tracey. I of course can't have that approval, but as mine was away for a couple of days and my daughters didn't bother me 😂 at least I didn't have to be deceitful.

Thank you for your compliments. Of course for girls like us it's just an amazing experience. One to hold on to for ever. Or at least until the next time. My missus is away again for a couple of days later in the year. The temptation is strong 😂.

Big hugs, Chrissie xx.

Hi Chrissie,

what a great article, so well written and informative. As you know, I am hoping to go to Femme side fairly soon because BWBG isn’t taking new clients. I loved the description of you being so nervous that you nearly turned the car around! I am sure that would be me too!

The photos are lovely, by the way, and you glam up so well. All those posss work and you look so happy. I am totally envious!

Thanks and love and hugs to you girl! ❤️❤️❤️

@chrissieprice984340 Hey Chrissie, yes shame about BWBG. Although good that it doesn't sound like there's a problem there. Anyway I'm not a new client so I'm alright Jack. Ha!

Whilst I have tried to convey that there's really no need for nerves, it would be quite understandable first time round. I'm so glad I'm past that now. I so hope you can get to see Tracey. It would be amazing for you darling.

Hugs, Chrissie xx.

Hello

You look beautiful, spectacular.

All you need is a big smile, one that reflects that you see yourself as the most beautiful person in the world.

You know I admire you so much. You must have so much love for your family to go from being you to zero in zero seconds. It must be really hard. I love dresses too, and pink. I don't see myself getting a makeover, looking so good, and then having it all disappear. And going back to the routine, with no option to dress up. You seem very brave to me.

I love you so much, lots of kisses. Carla

@carla66 Carla, you are such a sweetie. Look, I really struggle with the smile thing. My family are always criticising me for not smiling in photos. I mean how does one learn? I've tried practicing in the mirror but I feel a bit silly, even on my own 😂.

I 've chosen to live my life a certain way, which denies me the basic feminine needs I have. But of course, better to have these rare experiences than nothing at all. Thank you for your support honey xx.

You also look fabulous and it lifts my heart to see you looking so feminine in those gorgeous outfits.

Hi Chrissie.

Your photos are truly awesome.

Can see you are glowing in your annual day in the sun.

Whatever you spent to do this it was worth every penny. Your femininity really shines through in your photos.

@d44 Oh Fiona! I've said elsewhere that on these rare occasions I really need to feel as girly as possible. I'm thrilled that you see my feminity. Thank you. Of course if I were a more regular woman I would be looking to blend in, and you as the absolutely classy woman you are would understand that. But I'm nowhere near that atm 😢. Bless you Fiona. It wasn't cheap, but as you say, worth every penny xx.

HI Chrissie, just seen the photos and have to say you look stunning so naturally femme. Really have to get around to having a makeover one day but other things keep getting in the way sadly.

@lizzy89 Lizzy, thank you. It really is a no brainer, particularly as for me there's no real alternative opportunity xx.
