Just popped off a button on this cute midi skirt I’m wearing.  First thought: “ Dang. I’ll have to wait until my wife gets home to ask her to sew it back on”.  Second thought: “Girl, if you can’t sew that button back on yourself, you don’t deserve to wear that cute skirt.”

Sometimes second thoughts are the correct ones.

Best,

Clara

I was taught to sew buttons back on when I was 11yrs old. Boarding school is not for everyone but it has its advantages. Well done girl!

@lauralovett Not sure if I was second guessing or having second thoughts.

Hi Clara... I seem to remember Mick Jagger saying something similar at Glastonbury!

Wait. Mick Jagger said, “ I’ll sew it on myself”?

Kidding.

From ages 14-29, I lived alone or with a mostly absentee father; I had to learn how to sew buttons and do light mending. The skill were useful during my military career also.

Mom taught me simple mending and ironing before I went to college. Decades ago young men wore pressed, collared shirts on a date, so I would iron my oxford-cloths Saturday afternoons. Some other guys in the dorm saw me and asked me to press their shirts and slacks, too. At 50 cents a shirt, I supplemented my date money.
I still do my own mending and ironing, though now I am often dressed, wearing pumps, jewelry and all like June Cleaver doing housework.

Me too, I can mend, and sew. I have made myself a few things too. My Mom taught me, mostly because I wanted to sew myself, then never did it for decades!

Till I had to re learn it for work! No kidding. Got pretty good at it too.

Now my son is back living with me, so I don't want him to see me sewing a skirt or dress. Not yet, anyway.

I make some of my clothing. I've made eyelets with an awl and embroidery thread.

Army made me learn to sew, no choice. I love working a sewing machine, it's like welding but you can undo mistakes and try again.

I am in awe. There must be a secret society of seamstresses here on CDH.

If you can't sew then put your Jockey shorts and pants back on and get out of that skirt.....LOL LOL

I've been sewing since I was 10. and I am now 76.
