I'm sure most of you have heard a group of guys giving a hard time to one of their buddies for saying or doing something "unmanly" and telling him he needs to turn in his "man card"...

Well ladies, it occurred to me today, that in order to get a "GIRL CARD", one should have to experience a full Brazilian wax session...LOL!

Of course, I'm kidding - but it made me laugh as I was getting my every 5-week Brazilian wax this afternoon. They're NOT especially fun, but you feel "oh so feminine" afterwards. And, to top it off, I had a full leg wax done today too - now I can shop for a cute bathing suit for the summer season!

@highcountrygirl I get my hair colored and styled once or twice a year, get my nails done 3 to 6 times a year and occasionally get my brows waxed. That is as far as I am going so far.

Sweet! Then you know it gets easier once a regimen is established. (And so worth the effort!)

Smooth is the word. The hair growth lessens  after each waxing. 🥰

I've had my back done 'cause it's hard to get it with my back shaver. I have shaved my private area with lots of shaving cream and a lady body shaver.

I use a combination of hair removal methods too, Michelle. Because I was blessed which much less body hair than most who were born male, I regularly shave what little hair I have on my upper body (arms, arm pits, chest, and tummy). About twice a year I have my back waxed.

I prefer being waxed at a salon for all of the waist-down areas, because it's hard to reach everything on my own and waxing does a much better job than shaving.

The important thing is that we stay smooth, right? Flowers

@highcountrygirl OMG Shawana, what I know about waxing was the scene from "The 40 Year Old Virgin"!!!  Thankfully, I can do with a relaxing bath & a new razor or 2.  You are tough / dedicated.  🙂

@rikiinla That scene was over exaggerated for comedy! When I first had my back done it was a brief stinging sensation like someone had slapped me with a light paddle for about a second or two. But I also have a higher tolerance for pain than some people.

@highcountrygirl Well if that's all it takes then I've had mine for a long long time. Why not add using an epilator for 20 years or having double pierced ears?

i'm sure we can find lots of things that are membership requirements if we try.

Sounds good to me, Cheryl! I've not used an epilator, but I've heard that it takes will and determination to use one consistently, so kudos to you! I'm planning to get my ears pierced for the second time (lobes) very soon!

@highcountrygirl I love visiting the beautician for my waxing sessions; back, legs, chest etc. I find it a bit of indulgent “Me time” and I feel simply wonderful afterwards! Jane x

If a Brazilian is a condition to gain a 'Girl Card' I think I'll look at other providers.

The place I go has this service on their menu, but most of the women will not do it for men. I have been getting waxed on full legs, full back, full chest and stomach, and full arms for 14+ years. Unfortunately the woman who I was working with the last few years is no longer there, and my last wax I found was longer and not as thorough. I'd consider getting the rest of me waxed but I may have to go further to do it.

I don't do my armpits, I usually keep them shaved. And I only occasionally do the eyebrows; I can usually keep up with a comb and buzzer. Recently I started getting my nostrils waxed every other month.

I try to get my grey colored out 3-4 times a year. My hair was quite long (almost to mid-chest) but I lost some of that battling cancer two years ago. I'm groowing it back out again, and it is already more than a hand's width below my shoulder. Despite the length, there is little volume and very fine hairs, traits I inherited from my mother.

A big reason to color out my grey is that the grey hairs are very wiry. Being fine, they frizz up easily, and even a daily flatiron doesn't keep them straight (and that's before the humid summers). The coloring helps keep my hair straight so it becomes more manageable. With my long hair, I can go to the beach or pool with some clip-on bangs and otherwise use my own hair, and still have a feminine look.

But I don't need any "girl" card or "man" card. I'm me, I do what I want, and if others don't like it, that's their problem. I don't need to prove who I am however I present.

Hi, Alison!  It sounds like you've beaten cancer, and I'm so happy to hear that! (My sister has recently won her struggle with breast cancer.)

I hope you realize I was just trying to be funny with the whole "girl card" comment... it was just my way of acknowledging the effort we women put into presenting as / being women... so I hope I didn't give offense.

Hugs,

Shawna

@highcountrygirl No offense taken. I'm just trying to say I do what I want, dressed how I want, as long as it's appropriate. I'm the same person no matter how I present and don't change my attitutude because of what I'm wearing.

I agree on the feeling afterwards. I have done 2 full body waxings and, honestly, they are quite enjoyable. Until the brazilian part of course. Part of it is that my hair is not exceptionally thick elsewhere but I actually feel pretty relaxed for the rest of it.

I just did a mostly full body shave yesterday (I can't do my pubic region; I just don't like bringing blades down there) and even then I was thinking how much better this would be if I just got waxed. The problem is mostly cost.

I have started looking into laser hair removal so I don't ever have to worry about this again but, again, cost plays a factor. That and it sounds like there is no guarantee it is fully effective. But, when one can get a wax, it is certainly a game changer.

You're so right on cost. My salon services men and women, with the cost for men noticeably higher in every category. Thankfully, they allow me to pay the lesser cost for women, which certainly helps!

I have my girl card, I shave my legs, have my ears pierced, get my nails done at a salon and in the process of having the hair on my chest removed. I also have all my girly things out on display in my closet.

While I don't do a brazillian, I do some significant bikini line hair removal and do wear bikinis so not hair can be showing. I gues that earns me my girl card. I also enjoy my waxing sessions, and have recently started regular nail appointments. It is just so fun to do regular such sessions.

You are so right, JJ! And I learn SO much from the girl talk I have with the women in the salons...they've all been so willing to teach me the real-life aspects of being a woman!

I never had much luck with waxing. Never looked good and hurt. I prefer to use a body hair trimmer for the bikini line. It gives a smooth look for a day or two. The down side is you have to do it every few days. Worth it to avoid the pain and bumps.

Waxing is just one more thing than doesn't work the same way for every person. I find that if I'm not very careful, I'll get a rash / bumps on my arms when using a rotary shaver. (My arm hair is so fine and thin that shaving lasts for nearly two weeks.)

I'm smooth as silk downstairs, front and back. Through trial and error I've managed to finally get it right.

I mostly shave but recently bought myself a hair remover for the more hard to get at places and it works a treat ❤️

I shave from the waist down.... but the idea of trying to rip the hair off of my scrotum is.... owwwwww....... Scared

No piercings, but I do have a somewhat regular manicure and pedicure...

I won't lie, Ron...the first time was rough! But now that I have it done consistently at every 5 weeks, it's easier and much less painful each time. Something else to consider also, is the expertise of the esthetician. My esthetician (Lexi) is a dream!

I get a Brazilian waxing at least once a year. The feeling is just divine. I feel so feminine and feel the textiles of clothing as well. Luckily I am not very hairy

Hi, Deborah! I absolutely feel blessed to have nearly zero body hair on my arms, legs, chest, and back. Downstairs is another matter - hence the Brazilians...LOL! Disappointingly, as I get older, I find I need to wax my ears and nose very frequently...getting old isn't for the faint of heart, i suppose!

@eskaldion I found that the first time is the worse, whichever bit you are having waxed! After that, for me at least it became easier and less painful. Hair growth definitely thins and becomes easier to remove with repeated treatments. Jane x

I don't like the idea of Girl Card any better than a Man Card. Each implies that it's something other people give, deny, or take away. With that off my chest, I have my legs waxed, depilate most of the rest of me, paint my nails regularly, wear earrings in both ears daily (even in boymode, gasp!), and keep the most feminine bedroom in the house. I have more shoes and boots than my daughter, and at least as much makeup as her and my wife. Please send my Girl Card c/o this address 😉

Amen! I was with my brothers (in male mode) when they informed me I was in danger of losing my man card. Why? I'd committed the unpardonable sin of calling my laptop carrier a "satchel." Apparently, in man-speak, "bag" is the only acceptable term.

With brothers like that, it's no wonder I keep all this stuff secret.

@eskaldion So.... if you're talking historic baseball with your brothers, it should now be "Manbag" Paige instead of Satchel Paige?

I'll admit to being a bit lazy over the winter, but as of tonight the stamp on my girl card is renewed 🙂  Epilator on legs (meh), pits (meh) & arms (ouch!), roller wax on chest (meh), hard wax downstairs - this is not actually the most painful area for me, but a good quality wax is essential.

Legs, chest and downstairs used to be major ouch when I first started years ago, but the volume of hair is now much decreased and/or the follicles that are still working are used to it.  I only started doing my arms last year, I'm hoping they get the memo sooner rather than later!
