Hi ladies,

Over our CD "careers", I'm sure we have all been extremely frustrated about how women can wear a pair of trousers or slacks, (some in the name of "fashion" quite masculine!!). But the minute we put on a dress, it's "all wrong".

I have a loving, caring SO who knows about Caty, but "does not want to know". I'd love to be able to discuss all things feminine with her, but it just cant happen.

This is where it gets personal.  About two nights ago I left  an old photo of Caty where I should not have and of course, she found it. (AKA one of my old makeover shots I posted this morning). It was very "frosty" around here for the ensuing 24 hrs.

But at the same time she had her sewing machine out and was altering a new men's shirt to fit her daughter!!!!!!!

AAARRRRRAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There I feel better already!

Caty

Hi Caty.........I am sooooo sorry, but I could not help laughing my head off at your anecdote!  So true.

Just like they say....what's yours is mine, and what's mine is mine, n'est pas?

Tell her....Dame Veronica Graunwolf said....."While you have the sewing Machine out, would your mind mending my girlfriends Knight Templar Tunic?".   Get out your Parka then....LOL.

Spot on Caty

Whenever I get into conversations with most women  regarding the inequality that arises as far as women wearing whatever they want, while men cannot, it usually stumps women, stops them in their tracks.

Most know that in these ‘anything goes’ times it is not pc to say men wearing whatever they want ( dresses, heels, make up ) is wrong, and to openly say this would lose them the moral high ground, which most women just love to have !

They know there is no rational argument to counter the   ‘Why shouldn’t men wear what they want as women do ‘ so that’s when they bite their tongue ! So sorry things got frosty for you my friend. Keep you chin up !

Spot on, sister.  The only justification I've ever come up with is that, as a culture, cis women probably see FTM crossdressing as a way of seizing power from the patriarchy.  In the process, they've smashed a symbol of the gender roles that had oppressed them for so long.

It's meant to be confrontational and dissonant, and the fact that it's become a non-issue for cis women to do it can be interpreted as a great stride forward for feminism.   I'm all for it!

MTF crossdressing, by contrast, can be interpreted a symbol of men renouncing their masculinity, picking up the gender roles that women have worked so hard to make optional for themselves. That a man might want access to other gender roles as well probably isn't something a lot of ladies have ever considered.

You are sooo right, Caty.

My SO is honest about this - she's not even sure why she has these double standards, but she does and, somewhat annoyingly, strongest of all when it comes to her husband.

Still, I recognise that these are feelings she's had for a long time, which won't be resolved overnight.

Also, I have a strong traditional view of how women should look - I love to see them in pretty dresses and skirts like the ones I like to wear - but on the whole, they don't.

It's totally mad - those are lovely clothes, and a large number of those "entitled" to wear them don't!

So I am not going to be viewed as a misogynist - I will put my money where my mouth is and wear those clothes myself at last!

After all, I am not blowing up shopping malls or hurting kittens. The way I choose to dress harms no-one, it just delivers a bit of a culture shock!

Rant over!

Love and peace

Laura

I’ve mentioned on other forums that femininity is a powerful force of nature that is critical for the survival of any species.  It is also a wonderful gift and a privilege.  The love, compassion and kindness inherent to born females is why nature chose them to bear and nurture our young.

The feminist movement rejected that gift as a sign of weakness, and drove the masses of young women to emulate men.  But nature is powerful and it fought back.  I truly believe that nature has prompted countless males who will never distinguish themselves as alpha, to seek to fill the void of femininity in their world by emulating many of the features that made the women of their formative years so special.  Dress is just one of those features...one that is realistic to attain.

The framers of the feminist movement...just like most movements...only considered what they had to gain, never what they had to lose.  So when men are driven by nature to fill the femininity void, many of the “empowered” women lashed out at them for being a disappointment.  And hence, the double standard was born.

I hate to tell feminists, but nature will keep fighting...and she will win.  Whether this means that one day, males will be able to alter their own gender without medical intervention, remains to be seen.

Very interesting perspective, Charmagne. I think there is a lot of truth in it.

Wow, I am so in line with you @LauraLovett - we think very similarly.

A running joke in our home is my view that at least one of us should be in heels at any time.

Bianca (et alia),

Humans love to have the moral high ground, even if they have to redefine morality to do it.

hi caty. grrr this subject really makes me mad! I mean, its the unfairness of it and its only society that tells us its wrong for a man to dress like a woman but ok for a woman to dress like a man! I think eventually things will move on but its taking an awfully long time to do so.

I think the trouble with being a man is we are all stereotyped, that is, we are still the provider (although this view is dated), the hunter and the problem solver. then the other argument is, for a man to dress up as a woman 'he is lowering his social status' which again is a load of balony. we need a revolution! a cross dressing worldwide revolution.

I hate the double standard. At the end of the day they are clothes. Nobody should care what we wear. My wife wears my Tshirts sweet pants and when I wore boxers she would wear them. I had to find men underware that serve the need I have. It really does suck because I would really love to be able to wear what I wanted without someone looking at me like im crazy

I think this article from racked.com explains well why the double standard exists.

Hi Jasmine,

re the article link "No Appearance Your Warship". You'll have to go again.

Also intrigues me how a post started last December keeps cropping up every now and again !!

Surely its back in the "dim darks" of posts by now. How does that occur, does anyone know??
