I am going batty from stuck at home with my family for over a year, no time to dress and too much time on my hands from the pandemic, all sorts of crazy ideas going through my head………this is one of them.

Most of us journeyed a long road in our own self discovery and acceptance.  Along the way, in our struggle to understand who we are and coming to terms with ourselves and society’s non acceptance, we missed or simply denied the many life events that a GG would have had the opportunity to experienced.  For example, I remembered high school prom, I wish that I had the chance to attend in girl mode.  Just recently, Grace posted a topic about what you would wear on your wedding day, it made me thought about being a bride for a day. I can imagine in perfect makeup, hair and a beautiful, long, flowy pastel pink prom dress to attend the prom. Wear a princess like, A-line full skirted tulle, satin, sequined and lace wedding dress, veil and be a bride for a day.  Wouldn’t it be great if we can recreate these missed events so we can fill the voids in our lives?  For example, CDH can host a “bride for a day” event for all our CDH sisters at Fairmont Banff Springs hotel in Banff (Alberta Canada), surrounded by beautiful mountain-scape and natural scenery; of course, photographers will be ready to capture our blissful bridal portraits for our memory or an event where all our CDH sisters get together and have a belated high school prom of our own, in a glitzy night club and dance the night away.   I know, me in a prom dress or a wedding dress this late in the day will probably frighten children, but I am sure our sisters from CDH will cringe politely and non judgmental. I think it can be great fun would you not agree?  And, why stop there, how about a Debutante ball, Quinceanera party, or an event from an era that we weren’t born in, the Victorian era party, 50s house wife get together or a party of the 1860s like the movie Gone with the Wind?  If you had to pick an event to for us to celebrate our femme self come of retirement age, or an event we dreamt of attending but were denied, what event would you like to recreate, one from the listed above or one of your own?  Love to hear from everyone, and since this an international forum, love to hear what event you would like to experience from your own culture, tell us some details and tell us how you would dress to attend.

The prom and wedding events sound like fun. I didn't go to prom, no girls were interested in short, skinny geek. Besides, I would have wanted to wear her dress, although the frilly tuxes of my day (late 60's) were cool.

A bridal shower has to come before the wedding. Gather all the girls for a fun girls day, and a night clubbing. Then the wedding and dance.  Oh to have my spouse remove my garter for the garter toss! He he he! And many of us with a wider middle could have the party that follows a wedding.... a baby gender reveal party and baby shower!

Oh, to have that missed fun.

I missed out on the scene in San Francisco back when I lived there in the 80s. I wasn't a girl then, but if I had been, oh baby! Who knows what kind of trouble Bridgette would've gotten into? Hanging out in some of the more... interesting lesbian bars around. I wasn't Bridgette then though... but maybe I might've thought about it...

I know... back in the naughty corner!

Hello Rachel.

If we had been born GG's....our entire lives would have been opposite!!

dressed in pink, ribbons in our hair as babies, pigtails and short skirts, playing hockey and netball at school. Experimenting with make up and fashion, our fathers chasing off boys as teenagers. Marriage, babies and making a home as women.....and a zillion female events along the way .

There's no specific event but if i COULD re-live anything, this sounds bizarre, but just being a housewife, a homemaker, really appeals to me. I love what most GG's call the " daily drudgery" of cooking, cleaning and shopping. I wouldn't want to be married to a man, but an understanding wife, that would be happy for us to swap roles.....permanently.

I think an 1880's style of Cotillion would be so nice to attend.  Beautiful, colorful Victorian gowns with mile wide hoops and petticoats, where you would have to plan your powder room visits well in advance and need a helper to accomish.

I also like Grace's idea of just being a housewife before it was wrong to look and feel feminine day to day.

Hi Paula,

I love the diversity of the fashions of different eras for women, they have such beautiful and extravagant dresses.  I once checked online to see if I can purchase a replica of these dresses, they cost a small fortune…..way beyond Rachel’s budget.   So much to experience and way too little in my check book.

Hi Grace,

That sounds dreamy, why be a part-time girl when you can be a part-time boy instead.

Hi Bridgette,

It’s a shame that many of us took so long to recognize our femme self that much has been missed. I supposed, that it was much more difficult for us to come out of the closet then when acceptance was non existent, in many ways we were simply denied. We can only make up for lost time now and remember it’s all the naughty things we do that are memorable.

It’s prom and wedding for me! A chance to pamper myself and get made up! I love shopping online for formal gowns!

Hello Rachel nice to meet you I don't know if your able to access BBC documentaries, if so there is one called  Jamie drag queen at sixteen. Its about a 16 year old boy who want to be a drag queen. The upshot was he went to school prom totally en femme and his friends loved him. Here's a link with a clip for you

  its a lovely documentary.

Love Sarah xx

A sock hop would be fun. Who doesn't like poodle skirts and chewing gum.

Or maybe an NCO ball. Cavalry style circa 1880s

Hi Beth,

Being skinny would have been perfect to wear a dress for the prom and so much prettier than our drab self!

Bride for a day is fabulous, it wouldn’t be complete without the bridal shower, night clubbing and the garter toss for the full bridal experience. If only we can convince our SO to be groom for a day.

Hi Chelsea,

I would have love to be able to attend the prom too, and who could say no to be a bride for a day, I think the bridal gown is one of the most femme dress for a girl.

No, she has to be a bride also. Then you can remove each other's garter at the same time. Ooo, kinky!

I don’t know I have never been into prom, weddings or clubbing. So don’t feel I have missed much in that area.
However, I would have loved growing up learning how to do my makeup and hair and all those things. It is so difficult learning them now with little or no help. I would love the pampering of being able to get a makeover. And going to the beauty parlor to get my hair done. I do love getting a mani/pedi it feels so feminine!
So maybe I am more in Grace’s camp, or maybe it is just being old fashioned  and kind of sexist, and just be able to be a housewife in the 1950’s style. Maybe with out the pearls something else I never cared for.
