I set up a FB account to make like minded friends. I have quickly realized it was a cesspool. My profile says straight dresser. Well I get hit on by men and perves and what rally peeves me off. I will get a friend request we message back and forth then. The new friend goes into convincing me I am Trans, I am gay, I need to have the sex change etc. I am debating on deleting and start keeping to sites like this one.

There are only so many hours in a day. We have to decide how well spent they are. Dealing with trolls and creeps should be at the bottom of our lists.

Does Facebook offer you anything worthwhile?

@brandie I dumped my old FB account years ago.  I started a new one about a year ago because it was the only way to stay connected with a couple of close girlfriends.  But I pretty much ignore the account.  I get left alone because I don't do anything.  Like you said, FB is a cesspool.

@brandie I just use mine to follow and interact with female orientated groups I like, and have a couple of girl friends.

@brandie Yes there is a lot of sleeze out in the open world.  I used Flickr and it was good but then again after a while the scum still seem evade the privacy setting and you end up deleting your account.  Such a shame I knew some good girls their.

@brandie Been on FB for many years but only as my male self but I have blocked so many people.  I basically only have amd accept people I already know and use for communication with friends and love ones only so I never get trolls but its alot of work to keep it a safe space. CDH is no work. I thought of starting a 2nd FB account for River but I have been on the fence about it. I think you just pushed me in the right direction. CDH has all I need Thanks.. RC

@brandie FB is a total waste of time.  I have not let Sophie make an acct there (though I was tempted to do so).  I'm content with CDH as the people here are very supportive.

@brandie I'm sorry that you had that experience on FB. FB is not the same as it was years ago. Many creepy people figured out how easily they can watch, contact, engage, and take advantage of others. Sadly, it's not a safe space. Most sites aren't.

The anti-LGBTQ people use sites like that as a platform to both hurt people and try to convert them. I've seen some sad comments posted on CD profiles that are hateful and denounce CDs. It's just sad.

Be careful out there.

@brandie I had a facebook account for Lucy for about 10 days.

I naively thought that I would find FB sites similar to CDH. It didn’t take long to realise how wrong I was!
Also, although I used a different device to the one I used for my ‘boy’ account, it didn’t take long for the “people you may know” algorithm to start making the link, so the account went into the bin pretty quickly

@brandie I have a FB acct as well.  I only have friends who I know.  You’re welcome to add me if you like. Same name. Also, yes there are a lot of people who just don’t understand. Not all CD are gay or trans.  There are those of us who just enjoy it.

I’m so sorry you had that experience. CDH is certainly an oasis and a treasure. Sister you are welcome here. Hugs!

That's part of the reason I don't use facebook as I've heard about this, though my wife does and hasn't had issues.

I'm on Instagram mostly as some other performers use it to communicate with each other, myself included, but I've got hit on a number of times by trolls who just seem to come out of the woodwork.

Either way, I'm a big girl and I can look after myself, but it is annoying as I say what I am etc on my page and these guys don't bother reading it!

@sarahl Exactly.  If you have two profiles on FB one for you and anorther as your CD profile.  Be aware the "People you may Know" FB algorithm will "Out You" at some point !!

If you go public you take the rough with the smooth so the recommendation is to ditch F.B. There is an etiquette here which makes it safe and we recommend the conditions are read which gives advice on making the experience safer to avoid trolls. That said if any trolls appear at the bridge they soon get chucked in the river. I joined some years ago and decided to stay as I have had nothing but a positive experience.

Take care Brandie.

I'm a member of a couple of Facebook groups, and on the face of it they seem safe enough. But I never post. Too close to home. I'm also on a couple of other crossdresser forums and they're pretty friendly. Not a patch on CDH though xx.

I don't do FB, it is a cesspool in my opinion.  I don't like their censorship and lack of free speech.  I dumped my FB account 3 years ago and never looked back.

CDH is a much happier, informative place....  Nice...  Staci..

While I have a FB account I almost never look at it. I just never saw any usefulness in it...but I am a Luddite and would be happy to get back to the telegraph for long distance communication😄

@jjandme Luddites will inherit the Earth - again 🙂

No smartphone here, my mobile is 3G with buttons and still lasts a week on a charge 👍   I am considering a secondhand one without a SIM card though, simply for the ease of taking pictures of Fiona dressed up.  Not interested in WhatsApp, there's perfectly good email (or SMS at a pinch) for that sort of thing 😄

I only use FB for groups covering the vehicles that I own, although I'm friended up on FB with many of the members from the main forum for one of them, that is its own site like CDH is.  Having received birthday wishes via FB, my response the next day was 'Thank you all for your good wishes that made my annual visit to my timeline so pleasurable 🙂 '.  When one of them reacted with surprise, my OH wrote 'Seriously, he's not kidding!'.

I have facebook for my male self and only use it to stay in touch with family really.  Even then Im in there once a week at most.  And I love the emails I get from facebook "reminding" me to log on and find out what so-and-so has been up to.

Facebook makes me long for the days of MySpace, when MySpace Tom only wanted to be my friend.  Missy had a good sized presence there, but I'll never let her on facebook.

Facebook is bad enough.  I have never touched it and never will.

Years ago, I was active on Yelp, a consumer activist site.  I had an account which for those of you who are familiar with Yelp know it has your photo on it and your city & state. I opened my account as my female self.

Despite its consumer purpose, the trolls and weirdos were using the message function to stalk and harass female members.  No sooner would Yelp close their accounts then they would appear again under new names.
