I recall hearing someplace about some CDs who were able to get a credit card in their femme name. Has anyone done this? How does it work? For those of us in the US, I would anticipate that every card enrollment requires sharing your SSN that is tied to your legal guy name. Maybe some cards have a family member add-on option that wouldn't require an SSN for the additional card.
It would be wonderful to pay with a card showing my femme name. One less troublesome male identifier when I am letting my inner woman out.
Thanks!
Hi Rochelle. That could be so much fun! I wonder if that is with a prepaid card.
Rochelle,
You could add your femme name as an authorized user on your credit cards. This does not require a social security number generally from my experience.

Thanks, MacKenzie! Have you done this? Sounds like I need to check the authorized user options with my existing cards...
To prevent fraud, you are required to use your legal name that is tied to your social security number. If any other name is tried, they are required to reject it, and some will report it to law enforcement. Instead, you would either need to first change your legal name, or get a card under your legal name, then add the other name as another authorized user.
I enquired about a year ago and got the impression that financial institutions were not amenable to the notion. It might be possible to get them to issue a card in another name, attached to yours, but not telling them the 'other' person is actually you. As I understand it using an alias is usually legal unless it is for fraudulent purposes so I do not see what the problem would be if you were honest about it.

this is simple to do. I have my gas card and a debit card in my girl name...Rochelle you are right you can just add a user to your card list. I now want to get a drivers license with my girl name on..That however is going to take a bit .. (lots) of work
hugs everyone

Thanks, Tera. Have you done this with a "standard" credit card--e.g., Visa? Just wondering if the additional user option is possibly different compared to a gas card or debit card.
Hi Rochelle,
The easiest way to get a bank card or department store card in your femme name is to call the toll free phone number and speak to customer service. Tell them you’d like to add another user to the card and answer the questions asked.
If you’re transitioning and have the legal paperwork for a name change you can request a new credit/bank card for your self in your femme name.

you can get a prepaid card in any name...

Exactly. I did that with an American Express card that I have a couple of years ago. While it is a unique number and is accounted separately, it shows up under the main account. No other data beyond the name was needed...
In the past, I have obtained an AmEX card for my daughter; in her married name and with a different address. The bill still came to me. I was the primary cardholder, and her card had a different number.
Hi Girls,
Obtaining a credit card in your femme name is easy as stated multiple times here. If you want a drivers licence or state ID card in your female name, you must file for ann official name change at your local court. You pay a fee, get a court date, then see the judge who then authorizes your new identity or denies it. If approved, then you must take your paperwork to the social security office, your bank, credit card companies need a copy, ect., ect.. I know, I recently started the process and filing fees and court costs were $335.00.
There's nothing like these in India.

Thanks, Breanna, and to the other ladies who chimed in! I was admittedly lazy on this topic and did not do a simple search to see how it had been addressed (many) times before. But this girl can get chatty and oblivious or at least forgetful about what she heard a little while ago...so I'll take it as part of my femme training to be more wordy and empathetic!
Off topic alert: Breanna, love how you consistently provide great/helpful feedback for any lady looking to transition. If I ever were to go full time, I'd be peppering you with more questions, LOL.
