I made the big jump Sunday! Ordered an ‘outfit’ for myself. Haven’t gone for dress or skirt but trouser suit, also one piece swimming costume and sweater.
My wife sent me link to a company called Long Tall Sally one of her GG mates uses. As I am 6”1’ hopefully it will be able to fit me, though I am thinking make body shape may be an issue. Still, it’s a first foray and we’ll see how it goes.
Arranged delivery for Thursday when I am wfh so will defo be here when delivered rather than daughter #2 as it’s coming in my femme name.
May be a disaster, may be a triumph but my first female outer clothes so I am super excited.

Experiential learning, learning by doing. Some may even say learning through our mistakes. This is very important.
I think the first item that started the ball rolling for me was a pair of haram pants.

@chrissieprice984340 I'm a bit taller than you. I buy shoes from Long Tall Sally. Outfits, I tend to wear as everyday Weird Fish, Next, Run & Fly etc and 1950s-style dresses for dressing up a bit more. I wear a size 18 and they tend to work well for height

@chrissieprice984340 If / when you get more confident, there are plenty of independent shops that are fine with you trying stuff on. I wouldn't try in a chain store though.

@chrissieprice984340 In the South-East I love Retroesque in Arundel, Ju-Ju's in Brighton, She Said in Brighton. There are plenty of other shops worth a look in the North Laine area. For makeup and wigs Brighton Birdcage are brilliant.

@chrissieprice984340 I started with thrift shops. I was thin and young and would fit into almost anything lol. Now I pay attention to the the waist measurements first. I really like vintage but those can be all over the place.
I’ve bought so many dresses that haven’t fit. It’s usually not worth my time reselling. They go in the donate box, and when it’s full, they get dropped off.
i find companies and people that could use them more than “Goodwill” but shipping them isn’t cheap.

Admittedly, I made my first two purchases of outerwear in person (first an A-line tunic dress and then a fit-and-flare dress).
I've since made numerous online purchases of panties, bras, skirts, blouses, slacks, dresses, shoes, etc.
I'm usually in a hurry to get the items and try them on so opt for "click-and-collect".
I must admit I always secretly experience a thrill when the (usually) young female clerks pass to me over the counter a nondescript package which I know contains perhaps bras or a lovely new dress!

It’s the first step to being out. You have a 100% supportive audience, so NO FEAR🤗. When you are ready to go forth and treat the world to your presence, a makeover, and friends along will make up it a snap. Can’t wait to see what you bought😍

Hi Chrissie.. yes.. great move.. it's so exciting waiting for the doorbell to ring.. trying not to embrace the delivery (often boy!).. and then run upstairs and rip open the package and try it on! My first forays were shoes and lingerie.. as well as forms. Just a word of warning.. don't too enthusiastically open the package.. you might need to send some back after trying them on.. and you'll need the packaging!! Love FemmeE

Hi Chrissie.. see you're a London girl... am self English native...but have lived in holland and Belgium for > 45 years. I'll be in the Uk sometime in the summer.. where would girls like us have a great time in and around London? Thinking also of going to the Friday thing in Leeds .. need to progress a little further.. clotes plenty.. lingerie ok, shoes.. never enough.. makeup .. rudimentary.. and hair.. still looking for the right wigs.. so.. some way to go. That’s a good question! Although I am based in London I have only been dressing for two months so I am the wrong girl to ask I am afraid!
If you look on the CDH website there are ‘local places’ that are CD and TG friendly, mostly up in Central London like Heaven Nightclub and places in Soho, mostly LGBT pubs etc, but there are also a few in Vauxhall.
Never been to any of them and can’t say what they are like but sure if you ask many of our UK based sisters will be able to help!
I think there is a CDH LFF in August for those who want to attend.

I can still remember buying my first few dresses four years ago, it is a wonderful feeling.

@janetw Thanks for that… some of the reviews on the site seem less than stellar but there’s always the disgruntled wanting to grind an axe! Ordered a pair of shoes too, but not sure if women’s sizes are the same as men’s?

They're not... I'm normally a US Men's size 10.5-11 (wide) and in Women's sizes I need a size 13.

If you have to return things due to mis-sizing, you wont be the first one. It's maybe a good idea to double check the returns policy and hang on to tags and the like. But try on items carefully, as if you'll be returning them. For instance don't scuff shoe soles on outside surfaces. Most companies are ok about returns , I just find it a pain to do.

@chrissieprice984340 For four years I spent most of my time as Janet but never ventured out taking a walk in the morning and then transforming. Things changed for me when the time was right. Perhaps they will for you too. I would not have done without the support of so many here.

It was only a year after my first makeover, and about 8 months since I started going out of the house, when the woman who ran the transformation business was running a show. I was loaned two outfits, but I was told to get some pewter shoes. I found some pewter shoes with kitten heels online and was fortunate enough that they fit.

I definitely know how lucky I am and am thankful every day. Without that wise little soul I’d still be running about grumpy, impatient, undemonstrative and not even realising I had a problem and part of me was being refused its existence.

@aliceunderwire She is and reading stories and profiles here shows me how lucky I really am. It’s so much like ‘wish fulfilment’ that I get worried she’s just doing it to be nice and suddenly she’ll change, but she says that’s not it.
Shes a lovely, classy, beautiful, loving lady who looks great. You’d think she was twenty years younger than she is (and that’s not just flattery or my opinion either).

I remember ordering a couple of skirts for delivery a matter of days after moving into my own place. It was an exciting moment when they arrived. These days I go for 'click and collect' but the excitement still seems the same.

There you can enter the caption, the supporting text, the category, and add your photo. When you submit it, it will go to a moderator to ensure it is appropriate, and you will get an email when it is approved, usually within a few hours.
