For UK based members - I’m based near Banbury, UK. An opportunity to take my first daytime steps outdoors is on the horizon so I’m looking for tips and advice on where to go. Part of me just wants to get ready and head in to town for a wander - dressed down and blending in with the rest of the women on the street. But what advice would someone more experienced give to this first time out girl?
I have done one dressed outing out of the car and that was to a park. I am a Brit expat in the USA and we seem to have few decent parks in NC that have seating. As far as I remember, UK parks offer plenty of seating and walking space. My suggestion would be to look at local parks for nice areas for walking and stopping for a sit down.
Hi Gemma, for my first time out I drove to the back of Bristol airport. I got out of the car and leant against the front of the car and watched aeroplanes take off and land for a good hour or 2. Loads of people came and went and didn’t bat an eye lid at me :). But I would suggest going to your local park and have a wonder. If there is a town near by maybe go around and do a bit of window shopping or go in and have a browse.

If you are a people watcher you soon discover in most situations everyone is so wrapped up in what they are doing that they won't notice you unless you do something to deliberately make yourself stand out.
It might sound a bit mundane but do something simple like going the the supermarket. You should be able to walk round and almost nobody will look at you. In general, the biomechanics are different so shortening your stride and being more precise with your feet placement will help.
Put on your most comfortable outfit, hold your head high and go for it!

One small tip Gemma,
Take a bag of shopping with you, it's almost disappointing when everyone ignores you 🙂
Book a hotel in Brighton and spend a day or 2 there!
That's seriously my top recommendation, having done it many times and looking forward to the next.
Closer to home, I haven't been to Banbury for a while, but it seems a fairly mild mannered unassuming kind of town - I think you would be fine just dolling up and going shopping.
The first big town I went shopping en femme in is Reading, which tends to be busy.
First shop I went into was Lush, and I was immediately approached by a trans girl, who was super helpful. Several other assistants came up to me after that, and demonstrated many of the products - I had such an amazing time, and felt properly pampered.
For my first time out, it set my expectations high, and I won't allow any shallow minded people to upset my time out in any other town or city.
Do what feels right - but set some goals.
It's fine to just go out on a whim, but buying something, going for coffee or lunch, and especially trying on clothing or makeup is a real experience en femme - particularly the first time.
Relax and enjoy - and don't even think about passing. You will probably get read very quickly, but that's really not important to anyone. Be your lovely self!

Gemma the biggest fear is fear itself. To be at the stage of going out means you are ready. My early experiences led me to go out to quiet areas with few people. Once I got over my fears I realised that the busier the place the less attention there was.
Wear what you feel comfortable in and go for it. I found that by keeping on the move I built confidence to then get into the shops and browse. Banbury is a reasonably sized town.
There is a rhyme isn't there...' Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross. To see a nice lady on a white horse. Rings on her fingers and bells on her toes, she shall have music where ever she goes.... maybe use your car and omit the bells and you'll be fine.
That’s a lovely encouraging reply, Laura, thank you. Lush sound a like a great experience - maybe i’ll try the same! Weirdly, I was in Banbury today, and experienced a male assistant in one shop with lovely blue nails and both ears pierced, adorned with beautiful silver half shell earrings. Made me think i’ll Gonna bother when dressed. Overall though, I honestly think i’ve Now reached the point where I think life is too short and I need to just get out there whenever I can.x
Thanks Angela. My only ‘fear’ is leaving the house in daylight and being spotted by a neighbour. Outside of that, in don’t think I have any fear. I am who I am and given I’ll be polite and respectful, I think most people will be the same. Not quite decided where I’ll go or what i’ll do as yet but I have decided i’ll definitely go out.x
