Well we see and hear the environmentalists openly campaigning about the carbon emissions of planes. But what about the new findings about computing." Computing?" yes that's right, information and communication technology accounts for between 2.1 and 3.9 per cent of global carbon emissions, the aviation is only 2 per cent.
Will there be a carbon tax every time we switch on soon?
Will this statistic make you prioritise the use of your technology or maybe make you feel better when taking a flight?
Can the world survive without computers, could we?.
Lol Amanda xx
Maybe we could get a dedicated cow to produce enough methane to power our laptops!
By far the largest 'computing' related carbon offender is blockchain(bitcoin stuff). Some of those computing centers are using as much power as a small city.
Hi!!!
I think most planes are computer driven anyway.....so as long as cows don't get a pilot's licence we might be okay...
Yikes!!!... just thought....So every time I Google " Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg"
...im actually destroying the planet!!!....wonder if she knows???
Control Alt Delete Grace xx
Sell your computer, buy an airplane and lets all meet somewhere to shop. Bringing your pet cow is optional.
🍷C
Like your style Carolyn xx
Greta, hasn't worked that one out Grace, she is still campaigning about everything while she is flying around the world, she must have a massive carbon footprint, maybe one day she will write her own material and hopefully understand it.
Meow Amanda xx
Well I draw the line at breaking wind into my computer, that's not going to be a cool option.
Meoww!!!...
I hope she doesn't get her name put on the back of a football shirt....that will make the hole bigger!!!
here kitty kitty!!!!
Purrrrrr fect
Lets use peddle power that way can sit and lose some extra weight while flying or computing taking care of the carbon footprints in one deal.
lOL
🤣
I wonder if “they” used computers to figure that out?
Hi Amanda, Kathleen (below) mentioned that bitcoin stuff was a huge power consumer. My wife and I were looking at a house for sale (near our daughter's) and the owner was a bitcoin miner (whatever that is). Anyway the computer room was so hot as he was mining 24/7 that he had installed extra air conditioning for that room. And at our new fire hall, the computer room (to run the 911 system) was so hot that they too had to build in extra air conditioning before the computers started a fire in the fire hall!!! The irony.
Yes the world could survive without computers, we did it before. Would I want to go back to that world? Gosh, there is a romantic appeal to it but I would definitely miss the connection with all of you here at CDH. And TV watching for us retired folks with less than perfect eyesight. How many remember how crappy the video quality was on our old TV sets with tubes instead of computer boards - and how freakin' heavy those old TV sets were!!!!!!
Oh and Amanda, check out my home page. I've posted a foto of my new dog, Sandy. Got her today. Hugs, Krista.
Oh Donna....
I can just see it now....the engine room of the starship enterprise. 1000 bicycles manned by captured klingons....
Ok guys, you need to pedal faster, the capn wants warp 7!!!!
